Kim Kardashian Sells Her Clothes on eBay for Philippine Disaster Relief But Gives Only 10% of the Proceeds to Charity

November 24, 2013 87 comments

Kim Kardashian tweeted about auctioning her old clothes on eBay to help victims of the Philippine typhoon… but she is donating just 10% of the proceeds to charity. Kim’s move drew comparisons between her efforts to help the victims and Victoria Beckham’s. Posh and her husband dropped off more than 20 boxes of designer clothes and shoes at their local British Red Cross shop to raise money for its recovery efforts in the Philippines, and they won’t be seeing a dime of that fundraiser.

The following is the rest of the November 22, 2013 report from Daily Mail.

While we’re going to give Kim the benefit of the doubt that her heart was in the right place, something tells us she might rethink things next time she wants to publicly display how “charitable” she is.

The recent typhoon in The Philippines has claimed thousands of lives and left many struggling to access basic medical care.

And now, Kim Kardashian is bringing attention to their plight by launching an eBay sale of her clothes and accessories.

However, rather than donate the entire proceeds of the sale to non profit organisation International Medical Corps, the multi millionaire is only giving ten percent to the charity, according to the eBay posting.

Launching the sale on Thursday, the 33-year-old reality star tweeted a link to her personal website where she had written a personal letter. She wrote:

“Hi guys, this is a very special auction because a portion of the proceeds of my eBay auction are going to International Medical Corps, a nonprofit organisation that provides critical health services on remote islands where families are struggling to access medical care and basic resources like food, clean drinking water and vital medications.

“The proceeds will go directly to the communities they’re serving in the Philippines and will help typhoon survivors get access to medical care and ultimately save lives.

“My prayers and thoughts are with those affected by the typhoon. Check out my eBay auction here and support those who need our help in the Philippines. Xo.”

Kim has a reported net worth of $40 million.

Only ten percent: Multi-millionaire Kim Kardashianis donating a small portion of the proceeds from her clothing sale to International Medical Corps

Sale: The website states quite clearly the amount of money going to the charity

You could own this: Bidding has already began for some of Kim's 'favourite' items

The sale lists dozens of items of ‘Kim’s favourite clothes and accessories’ from high end designers including Marc Jacobs, Chanel, Dolce & Gabbana and Prada.

Many of the items are listed as European size 42 (US size 8/UK size 12).

There are also more affordable pieces from Kim Kourtney and Khloe’s clothing line The Kardashian Kollection.

Some of the more distinctive pieces of clothing are accompanied by photographs of Kim posing in the outfits on red carpets and at events.

MailOnline reached out to Kim’s representative for comment but have yet to receive a response.

Her actions are far removed from those of generous Victoria Beckham and her husband David are donating thousands of pounds worth of designer clothes to their local charity shop to raise cash for victims of Typhoon Haiyan. The couple have handed over boxes full of their old clothes and shoes to a British Red Cross shop in Chelsea, west London, to help fund the charity’s work in the Philippines.

Typhoon Haiyan, known as Typhoon Yolanda in the Philippines, is the second-deadliest Philippine typhoon on record and has so far claimed the lives of more than 4,000.

The cyclone caused catastrophic destruction in the central Philippines, particularly on Samar Island and Leyte with many people left homeless and without access to clean drinking water.

Manzos and Lauritas Use “Autism Awareness” to Sell Blk and Draw Customers to Cafface; Is Blk “Giving Back” the Way Signature Apparel Was Supposed to Give Back to the Susan G. Komen Foundation?

The Manzos and Lauritas are using autism to sell blk. On April 5, 2013, they teamed up with House of Sports to “to knock-out autism.” In addition to signage for blk prominently featured at the event, there were plenty of cases of blk stacked in the gymnasium with “generation rescue, hope for recovery” and “blk is giving back” printed on the bottles. Registrants at the event were required to make a $10 “donation.”

How is blk. “giving back,” as indicated on the bottle? Is Blk Beverages LLC giving back the same way the Laurita’s now bankrupt company, Signature Apparel LLC, was supposed to give back to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation? On June 22, 2010, the Komen foundation filed a “proof of claim” against Signature Apparel Group, LLC in the amount of $18,000 for failing to honor a marketing agreement. According to Faux Reality Entertainment:

“The marketing agreement stated that Signature Apparel was to pay the Susan G. Komen Foundation 10% of sales on certain shirts with pink logos and/or insignia for a guaranteed donation of $18,000. Signature Apparel failed to make the guaranteed payment to Susan G. Komen Foundation. In fact, what the Susan G. Komen Foundation did not know is that Signature Apparel was being stripped of all its assets; and less than two months after entering into the marketing agreement with the Komen Foundation, creditors asked the courts to stop Signature Apparel from defrauding further creditors.”

As for their son Nicholas, Chris Laurita says, “He keeps progressing, and then regressing, but he’s doing so well. We’re really happy with his progress. He’s a great little boy.” – People magazine, April 5, 2013

In the September 3, 2012, issue of People Magazine, Jacqueline announced that Nicholas is autistic, and she said that once he began to speak, Nicholas would always say, ‘I love you Mommy’ but, at 18 months, he stopped saying ‘I love you.’ She reiterated this at the season 4 reunion when Andy showed a montage of Nicholas as a perfectly normal child. The montage ended with a voice-over of Nicholas telling his mommy that he loves her, which, according to Jacqueline, he isn’t able to do anymore because he has ‘regressed’ and doesn’t really speak too much these days. Jacqueline was downright hysterical by the end of the segment — she sobbed (without tears) into her hands while Caroline Manzo consoled her, assuring her that Nicholas would be able to say those words to her again one day.

Jacqueline told Luxury Report Magazine (also published here) on December 1, 2012, that unlike last season, she is planning to address her son Nicholas’ autism diagnosis on the show this year:

“Obviously our son’s diagnosis is out in the open now. It’s nothing we were ever ashamed of; we only wanted to respect our child’s privacy, since we had not received an actual diagnosis yet. We wanted a diagnosis and a treatment plan in place first, so that people couldn’t speculate on what his issues were before we ourselves actually knew and got a handle on what it was ourselves. Taking care of our child’s needs is obviously a huge priority in our lives, so we would be addressing it on the show, however, it will be addressed with the intentions of bringing awareness to Autism, and to help people to understand and relate to the challenges that we go through as parents, as we works towards to recovering our child. I’m not comfortable, however, with making a spectacle out of my son, so I would hope that Bravo would be sensitive and respectful regarding how they present and expose him in front of the camera. I have faith that Bravo will be sensitive to the matter because they did respect our wishes last season and did not focus primarily on my son while he seemed to regressing and slipping away. Bravo respected that it was an extremely sensitive issue that our family was dealing with, and we are very grateful and appreciative of that.”

In an August 9, 2011 article (the same month Nicholas was diagnosed with autism) published by Wyckoff-Franklin Lakes Patch (Manzo-Laurita Family Strikes Black Gold With Blk), Albie Manzo made claims that blk. helped an autistic child:

Manzo admits he was skeptical of the claims at first and he doesn’t quite understand the science, but the more he drinks it — he downs a bottle a day — and the more he hears from satisfied customers, the more he believes in blk. One case in particular, he told Patch, has really assured him of the product’s potential: A mother gave her autistic son blk. to drink, thinking its unique color might get him drinking more water. The boy not only drank it, he loved it, but the amazing part, he started behaving. The mother reached out to Albie, shocked, who sent her two more cases to try. Her son is stimming less and listening and following directions more. The difference, she told Manzo, is unbelievable.

The Lauritas Are Back for Season 5 Because Hurricane Sandy Gave Them a Storyline That Bravo Really Liked

On September 10, 2012, Jacqueline Laurita was a guest on the Anderson Cooper Show. He asked her if she would be back for season 5, to which she neither denied or confirmed. Chris Laurita said that if asked back, he and Jacqueline would use the RHONJ as a platform for autism awareness.

On September 17, 2012, a former RHONJ post production supervisor said that before the season 4 reunion special was taped on September 7, 2012, Jacqueline and Kathy were not made offers to return for season 5, and Caroline was made an offer but declined (and without Caroline, there was no place on the show for the other Manzos).

Late Monday, October 29, 2012, Hurricane Sandy hit the Jersey shore and New York Harbor, and shortly thereafter it seems Bravo made the decision to start taping RHONJ season 5… According to a Bravo insider (not a cast member but an employee) the Lauritas weaseled their way onto the show by using Hurricane Sandy for a storyline for season 5:

“Yeah, they’re all back… they weren’t supposed to come back, but then Hurricane Sandy came and their ‘relief efforts’ gave them a storyline that Bravo really liked.”

The insider says Kathy, Caroline, and Jacqueline were OUT and Teresa’s makeup artist was in, as well as some other people they were auditioning. This was a FINAL DECISION, and it was all over the blogs, too, because it was true.

So what happened for them all to return for season 5? How did they weasel their way in? THROUGH TAKING ADVANTAGE OF THOSE AFFECTED BY HURRICANE SANDY. Yes, really.

Bravo taped the Gorga’s “relief efforts” shopping at Target, the Manzo’s/Laurita’s “relief efforts” by promoting Cafface/blk as a dropout/delivery site for donations, and the Manzo boys raising money as guest bartenders at the opening of their new restaurant. These staged events under the guise of charity were followed by the taping of the Hurricane Sandy fundraiser at Space Odyssey, which all of the cast attended, except for Caroline, Jacqueline, Chris and Albie, who were in California promoting blk at a Walgreens’ grand opening.

So basically, Bravo cameras were rolling when the Manzos and Lauritas were blowing up Twitter with all their “information” about Sandy, and when they were loading the blk van with donations dropped off at Cafface, etc. — and if they looked super super happy, it’s because their supposedly good-hearted relief efforts were their tickets back onto the show:

“We are collecting things @ my store to bring to shelters! Using our twitter flwrs to spread the word! My stores in Franklin lks ” – Lauren Manzo, November 3, 2012, Twitter

“Feeling so lucky to own a public store that my fam & I can use to take donations and get them where they have to be! Thank u all for ur help!” – Lauren Manzo, November 3, 2012, Twitter

“Let’s all pull together 2day&bring as much supplies 2 Cafface in Franklin Lakes so that we can donate2those in need! Team Blk will deliver!” – Jacqueline Laurita, November 3, 2012, Twitter

This probably means the Manzos/Lauritas will be getting the super-angelic storyline edit as usual… saviors of humanity. Remember Jacqueline’s comments toward Teresa about how she shouldn’t be “doing things quietly” — well, Jacqueline returning because of her Hurricane Sandy relief effort storyline puts that comment into context:

“Now is NOT the time2silently do good deeds4others,use ur Voice2encourage MANY 2join in.THATS how I was raised!ESPECIALLY if given a platform.” – Jacqueline Laurita, November 5, 2012 4:04 PM, Twitter

Let’s hope the storyline isn’t that Teresa did nothing while they were saving the world:

“Of course we are helping every which way we can too but I’m just not one to take pics of it. Sorry, not how I was raised xx (Matthew 6:1-3).” – Teresa Giudice, November 4, 3:13 PM, Twitter

Season 5 Hurricane Sandy RHONJ Cast Member Relief Efforts Taped by Bravo (Bravo Showcases the Manzos, Lauritas and Gorgas):

  • October 29, 2012 – Hurricane Sandy hits the Jersey shore and New York Harbor late Monday, October 29, 2012
  • November 2-3, 2012 – Laurita/Manzo camp tweets to bring donations to Cafface for delivery by blk van to shelters
  • November 4, 2012 – Joe and Melissa Gorga shop at Target for Hurricane Sandy relief effort and drop off items to donation centers (plus Joe the lumberjack cuts downed tree in neighborhood)
  • November 4, 2012 – Lauren tweets to stop dropping off clothes to Cafface — says to drop them off at the Red Cross or a shelter
  • November 9, 2-12 – Lauren tweets to stop dropping off donations to her store Cafface — says it makes more sense to send donations directly [well or course it makes sense to go directly to the shelters and donation centers, which is why it is obvious they were merely promoting their businesses and trying to lure Bravo into recasting them when they tweeted for people to drop off items to them]
  • November 10, 2012 – Jacqueline tweets: “We’ve been helping out w/out Bravo filming but that doesn’t mean we r going 2 stop helping 1ce they r”
  • November 15, 2012 – Joe and Melissa worked the phones during MTV’s ‘Restore The Shore’ special
  • November 20, 2012 – Manzo boys promote their new restaurant by advertising they’ll be guest bartenders at the Village Pourhouse in Hoboken to raise money for Hurricane Sandy victims
  • November 26, 2012 – Gliz, Glam and Gifts, an event held at the Brownstone by The Sparkling Event (run by Candice Laurita and Cristina Granelli, Jacqueline’s nieces) “Benefits Sandy Victims” (housewives donate items to victims of storm and offer holiday shopping)
  • November 30, 2012 – Hurricane Sandy fundraising event at Space Odyssey — Teresa, Melissa and Joe, Kathy and Richie, Kim D, Elvira, Jennifer, Lauren and Christopher attend
  • December 6, 2012 – Damian and Beau Monde Salon & Spa’s inaugural Holiday Party for Charity at the 201 Club in Englewood — Teresa and Kim D, Elvira Grau, Caroline and Jacqueline attend

During the season 4 reunion special, it was obvious that Kathy’s days on the show were over. She stirred the pot against Teresa for two seasons, but she must have known she wasn’t bringing any real storyline. Kathy is rumored to have a limited role in season 5… could she be reaching out to Teresa as a way of getting more camera time? It would explain the recent favorable tweets between them:
