RHONJ Season 5 Reunion Part 2 Ratings Down Almost 40 Percent to 2.1 Million Viewership (See Last Comment for Season 6 Ratings)

October 17, 2013 322 comments

Viewership for part 2 of the reunion special for season 5 of RHONJ fell 38.9% to 2,099,000 at 8 PM compared to last season, and was 392,000 less than viewership for part 1 at 8 PM the previous Sunday. The repeat airings of Part 2 at 9 PM and 10 PM didn’t even rank in the top 100 of cable TV shows for the night.

Part 1 of the reunion special fared a bit better with 2,491,000 viewers at 8 PM, but still had 1,002,000 viewers less than the previous year’s show, according to A total of 938,000 watched the 9:30 PM repeat airing.

The “Tell All” episode, which premiered on October 14, 2013, didn’t even break one million viewers total (946,000).

As Jeannie5233 said, even with Caroline and Jacqueline gone:

“Bringing Dina back and introducing two new faces is not going to save this show. I think RHONJ has one more season and that’s it, especially if Teresa is convicted and goes to prison.”

Based on a tweet by Melissa Gorga on October 6, 2013, for season 6 it looks like she and Teresa will be taping scenes together, but they probably will be centered around the children:

Melissa Gorga ‏@melissagorga
Truth be told! The M & T saga is too much. We were both wrong at times & we are moving on with forgiveness. We are family. Xo

On October 16, 2013, RadarOnline reported (for what it’s worth) that Kathy Wakile has been demoted to a part-time role (with the financial terms of her contract having been drastically reduced) and that her sister Rosie Pierri will finally get paid to appear on the show (there is also speculation on who the new cast members will be, but the blogs were wrong last season, so I wouldn’t put much weight on the rumors until taping for season 6 is well underway).

Richie Wakile is refuting the story by RadarOnline, which was picked up by Perez Hilton on October 17, 2013:

Briana Sullivan ‏@BrianaSulli 17 Oct
@richardwakile horrible I read on @PerezHilton Kathy will only be part-time next season! She brings the class and comfort! Can’t be true!

Richard Wakile ‏@richardwakile 17 Oct
@BrianaSulli @PerezHilton don’t believe the BS!

In the aftermath of the October 6, 2013 twitter war (more on that in a future blog) between Teresa and the Wakiles (including Rosie), Dina tweeted that Kathy was added to the November 11, 2013 Project Ladybug event being hosted by herself and Teresa, which most likely will be taped for season 6:

Dina Manzo ‏@dinamanzo
Tweeps things r good w Teresa & Kathy! Lets keep it that way! It’s all about coming together to help sick children. Everyone’s ❤ is in it!

New Bravo TV Shows – click here to watch the SNL skit on BravoTV’s announcement of the latest in its never-ending stream of spinoffs.

Bravo hosted an “upfront” party for advertisers on Wednesday evening April 3, 2013, at Stage 37 in New York (photo above). The network unveiled 17 new unscripted series, plus three scripted projects in development, and announced it would be renewing 18 shows, increasing its original programming slate by 15% over last year.

Extreme Guide to Parenting (coming this fall) looks to be schadenfreude at it’s finest. Each episode features two different households with very unique (read: extreme) styles of raising their children — from spoiling and severe punishments to helicopter and new age methods. One of the mothers even bragged about using a vulva puppet with her child. And you see it. A vulva puppet. You read that right.

Thicker Than Water: The Tankards (Fall 2013) — This docu-series follows former professional basketball player turned popular gospel singer/recording artist and minister Ben Tankard, his blended family and their journey in expanding the family fortune. From music-producing to NBA life coaching and motivational speaking, this business-oriented family strives to keep on top of their game, but finds their true passion lies in ministry.

Other unscripted series include:

Courtney Loves Dallas, where the Most Eligible Dallas star navigates the Texas social scene with her friends.

Divorce Diva (working title), about a divorce mediator.

Fashion Queens, a topical fashion-based talk show.

Southern Charm, a look at the Southern aristocracy in Charleston, S.C.

Two Fit Girls, about the best friends and business partners behind

Ladies of London (working title), following a group of British socialites and American expats.

100 Days of Summer, about a young, successful Chicago “it” crowd.

Unscripted projects in development are:

Ivy League Confidential (working title) — It follows four elite college admissions consultants in New York and Los Angeles as they deal with over-the-top, pampered clients (both the parents and the children) trying to get into one of the top universities in the world.

America’s Best Restaurant (working title) — Modeled after UK’s Ramsay’s Best Restaurant, it’s a new food competition series that pits 16 of the nation’s best restaurants against each other on their own turf.

Rich People’s Problems (working title)– Real Housewives of Atlanta star Phaedra Parks helps rich folks settle their differences, from friends battling over an $8,000 loan or accusations of stolen Chanel handbags to confusion over a prenuptial agreement and whether it entitles you to two or three live-in staff members.

Scripted shows in development are:

Girlfriend’s Guide to Divorce — Based on the book series by Executive Producer Vicki Iovine, this one hour dramedy follows a best-selling author of a self-help book series who is secretly hiding her separation from her husband as she starts to navigate her life as a single woman in her 40’s in Los Angeles.

Heiresses – Based on the upcoming novel from Sara Sheperd (Pretty Little Liars, The Lying Game), this one-hour drama follows one of the most prestigious and wealthy families on the Upper East Side who have built their entire fortune on the business of diamonds. It follows the heiress granddaughters and involves a murder mystery.

High and Low – Produced by Michael Imperioli (Son of Sam, The Sopranos), it’s a period drama that takes us through the worlds of 1980’s art, food, and Wall Street through the eyes of rival brothers, from two different mothers, who open a restaurant together, forcing the two estranged families to finally deal with the years of resentment between them.

Melissa showed up at the Bravo “upfront” party wearing a cheap knock-off of the designer dress that Kim Zolciak wore for Atlanta’s season 5 reunion special, which was taped just weeks earlier (see photo above).

“Great time last night at the Bravo Up fronts! Thank you reveboutique for my glam dress!!” – Melissa Gorga, April 3, 2013, Twitter

This is not the first time Melissa wore the same dress previously worn by another Bravo Housewife. She does this in hopes of being featured in Us Weekly’s “Who Wore It Best”, where A-list celebrities are also mentioned. On Melissa’s website, she has a press page with multiple clippings of herself from “Who Wore It Best”.

Melissa was featured in “Who Wore it Best” twice in December 2012 (see photos below) plus she was photographed on May 16, 2012 wearing the same dress Lisa Vanderpump wore just two days earlier.

Bravo Consistently Does Not Rank in the Top 25 of Cable TV Networks for Primetime Viewing

“Let’s face it,” said Phil Robertson, star of ‘Duck Dynasty’ on A&E, “the bar has been set pretty low for you to get on American television these days. I think they said, ‘Why don’t we try a functional family,’ and somebody said well, that’s a novel idea. Round here, you know, there’s no outbursts, belligerence, cursing, gettin’ drunk, dope, no, we’re all Godly people, so maybe it’s a little switch for a change. We’re not actually rednecks, but we probably could be called goodoleboys.”
