Teresa Giudice Can’t Leave RHONJ Because She is ‘Locked into a Long-Term Contract’ Says Her Good Friend Heather Maclean
Teresa Giudice’s good friend of five years and cookbook co-writer Heather Maclean has tweeted since July 2013 that Bravo won’t let Teresa leave RHONJ or get her own series on another network because she is “locked into a contract” that is “longer than five years” and “they won’t let her leave”:
Her contract is longer than 5. Much longer. I think they have her on lockdown until she’s 80… They won’t let her leave.
She’s locked into a contract. Locked. Believe me, when they cast Melissa, she begged Andy to fire her. He said, “Dream on.
She can’t do a spinoff on any other network while she’s on Bravo.
Heather also claimed that when Bravo cast Melissa, Teresa begged Andy to fire her, but he said, “dream on”:
In August and September 2013, Heather continued to tweet about Teresa not being able to break free of her Bravo contract.
On August 19, 2013, @rossst209 asked Heather:
Why can’t Teresa get a show on E, Or A&E, or TLC, or even VH1? Isn’t anyone offering?
Heather replied that Teresa couldn’t get a show on another network because of her Bravo contract, plus she said that Teresa couldn’t even appear as a guest on another network:
She can’t even guest appear on other networks’ shows, especially cooking shows.
Also on August 19, 2013, @Rainbow_Cash_ asked Heather about the shooting schedule for RHONJ season 6:
Is it true that Bravo wants to start shooting S6 of RHONJ next month to cover Teresa’s trial?
Heather replied that they usually don’t give contracts for the new season until after the reunion tapes:
No one has heard a word yet – they usually don’t give next season contracts until after the Reunion tapes as an insurance policy.
Confused by Heather’s tweet that contracts had not yet been negotiated for season 6, another follower, @wlft1, asked why Teresa’s contract goes “forever”:
Heather, you’ve tweeted Tre’s contract goes ‘forever’, yet you’re saying they haven’t rolled out new contract – how come other original HWs from other cities sign new contract every season. We know because some hold out?
Heather didn’t reply, but @Rainbow_Cash_ did respond by tweeting:
Some sign one year contracts. While others sign multiple year contracts. I remember reading an article that said Jacqueline signed a contract binding her to show for multiple years, while people like Kathy have one year contracts. And just because Teresa has a multiple year contract doesn’t mean the rest of the cast does.
Follower @wlft1 followed up by saying that “nobody knows the real story except for the players involved”:
True, just responding to Heather saying they haven’t given NEW contract til after reunion. Actually, she didn’t say new, she said next season’s contracts. My apologies, but it states same thing. I just think nobody knows real story except for the players involved. Btw, I love Teresa n wish her the best!
On September 3, 2013, Heather also didn’t reply when @Exit155nj asked why Teresa couldn’t do a show on another network:
Why can’t she do show on another network? E, Tlc, A&e, vh1 all have shows not dirty and negative. How long is contract?
However, Heather did reply when @teens04 asked how long does Bravo “own you” after you leave the show or after the series ends:
How long do they own you after you’ve left the show or series ended?
Heather tweeted that they own you a “long time, four to five years after”:
4-5 YEARS after. Long time.
On September 3, 2013, @Exit155nj and @BurkettSue commented that every year it seems Housewives leave, and then they asked Heather to explain how Dina Manzo got out of her Bravo contract and how Danielle Staub and Dina both appeared on other shows.
Heather replied, with a wink, that Bravo “allowed them to”:
Bravo allowed them to. 😉
When @wlft1 tweeted, as another example, that “Lisa Vanderpump was on ABC’s Dancing with the Stars,” Heather didn’t respond. And when @claudia65 tweeted that “Dina got off – there has to be a way – maybe just play dead and stop cooperating,” Heather again didn’t respond.
When @claudia65 asked why Teresa couldn’t “pull some stunt to get Bravo to release her?,” another follower, @llllStarllll, replied:
They won’t let her go – she is a star.
Heather didn’t join in the conversation, but she did tweet (to nobody in particular):
Reality TV started out as an entertaining peek into real people’s real lives. It’s now a humbug played out by indentured servants. You can beg to be fired, but if you make great TV, they won’t fire you. Or let you go anywhere else.
The only way to redeem yourself? You have an iron-clad confidentiality agreement as well that means you can’t expose their lies or defend yourself, your family or your honor…or not. If they “fire” you, they still own you. You cannot appear on other networks or even do some other businesses unless they agree.
Producers don’t want to make big stars & then lose them, so first-time contracts are generally 5-10 YEARS. They have the option to use you. You sign away your rights to be portrayed fairly, accurately, or decently. You cannot stop producers’ portrayal NOR defend yourself publicly.
This is my own personal experience with contracts, but I don’t think the public understands how you sell your soul & are trapped by producers. I’m lucky to have gotten out relatively unscathed & blessed to have a wonderful life & career now, but it made me super empathetic to TV ppl.
As Sara Blakely from Spanx (who was on the show with me) said: “No sane person should ever sign that contract.” Yet we did & we’re smart… It almost personally killed me (9 times, I counted!) & destroyed my family. And that was 10 years ago when reality TV was kinder & gentler.
Word to the wise: do not ever sign a contract to appear on reality TV. I know from personal experience since I did. Worst idea ever.
On October 2, 2013, @Evrynameisgone tweeted that Teresa shouldn’t stay on the show and said that “no money is worth it”:
@HeatherMaclean With all they have done to Teresa and the negative karma it has brought upon her, she shouldn’t stay. No $$ is worth it.
Heather tweeted that she agreed and said she wished Teresa could leave:
@Evrynameisgone I know. I agree. I wish she could leave.
In reply, @Evrynameisgone asked why Teresa couldn’t leave:
@HeatherMaclean With all due respect, why can’t she?
Heather didn’t respond.
I find it very hard to believe that Teresa virtually has become an indentured servant of Bravo, unable to free herself from a long-term, multi-year contract, especially since she is now in her sixth season with the network.
I think Heather tweets on Teresa’s behalf (just like Melissa’s sisters tweet on her behalf), and I believe Teresa could put a stop to Heather’s tweets about her if she were passing on information that Teresa doesn’t endorse (just like Melissa could stop her sisters).
Teresa freely admitted during reunion 5 that she likes nice things, plus she said in interviews after the federal indictment that she wants to continue her career as a Housewife, so she’s not denying that she likes the materialistic lifestyle that being a Housewife provides for her. So why pretend that Bravo won’t let her leave the series?
Teresa Giudice Turned Down a Bravo Spinoff Says Her Good Friend Heather Maclean; Manzos Got Spinoff Because of Lauren’s Wedding
“I have no reason to bring down or (further) humiliate my own family. Caroline and Jacqueline however have a million reasons to want to hurt me and my family and make us look bad… The show started out as all about their family. They were the stars, I was just the silly friend. I wasn’t interested in doing a show with my family at all. I’m still not. I turn down opportunities for my own TV show all the time, because I won’t do a show that exploits me and my kids. I know other people are super into that and would jump at the chance, especially for all the money, but I won’t do it. I won’t sell out my family.” – Teresa Giudice’s Bravo Blog, In Wonderland, August 28, 2012
On September 27, 2013 and November 6, 2013, Teresa Giudice’s good friend of five years and co-writer of her cookbooks, Heather Maclean (@heathermaclean), responded to some fans who were questioning why Teresa wasn’t given a Bravo spinoff.
A follower asked Heather:
“Did Teresa get an offer and turned it down? I hoped that’s what happened, at least. I was LIVID when I heard the Manzos got offered one.”
“Yes she did and yes she did. She truly isn’t a fame chaser. Just wants what’s best for her family and that’s not always (ever?) TV.”
Heather tweeted that Teresa turned down a spinoff offer from Bravo because “it wasn’t right for her family”:
“Teresa just publicly stated she was offered a spinoff from Bravo but declined because it wasn’t right for her family.
“Have you seen all the family fighting and tears in the previews of Tamra’s and Nene’s own shows? Exactly why Teresa keeps turning them down.”
When a fan tweeted that “Milania needs her own show – actually, that kid needs her own network!,” Heather replied that “she does!” but Bravo doesn’t “do cute”:
“She does! But Bravo said they don’t do ‘cute.’ They’re Bravo ‘not TLC’.” 😦
Furthermore, on October 14, 2013, Heather asserted that Caroline Manzo did not leave RHONJ on her own accord and said that the reason the Manzos got their own show is because Teresa turned down Bravo’s spinoff offer:
Although Heather claims the reason Caroline got her own show is because Teresa turned down a Bravo spinoff offer, it seems more likely that the Manzos were given a spinoff because Lauren is getting married which, according to Andy Cohen, is the “natural way” to “lend itself” to another ‘Real Housewives’ series. Andy told TheWrap on April 16, 2013:
“The shows that we’ve picked up have been because the women have other things going on. Kim’s show started with her getting married, which is really the natural way to, it lends itself well to another series, you know?”
Bravo loves weddings, which is how the Manzos pitched their spinoff and why Bravo greenlighted the series. On May 22, 2013, Bravo announced that ‘Real Housewives of O.C.’s’ Tamra Barney landed a spinoff, which featured the road to her summer wedding; and in April 2013, Bravo announced a spinoff series for Atlanta’s NeNe Leakes that captured her road to re-marrying ex-husband Gregg Leakes (NeNe and Gregg divorced in 2011 after roughly 13 years of marriage; the couple announced in January 2013 that they were tying the knot once again – so they were divorced barely a year before deciding to remarry, which makes you wonder if this was all done for the show and a future wedding spinoff). Bravo taped the renewal of the Giudice’s wedding vows in September 2011 (see image below) but the footage never made the show, probably because of all the drama that ensued when the Gorgas and Wakiles were added to the cast.
The scenes and THs (testimonials) in RHONJ season 5 of Lauren saying she wasn’t interested in getting engaged because she was focused on Cafface, etc., were staged – she got engaged almost a year earlier, in May 2012, when the cameras were not rolling (they were between seasons). On May 23, 2012 Lauren tweeted a photo of her ring with a cryptic message, but denied she was engaged when bloggers picked up on it:
I just read the craziest article saying that I am engaged…. I’m not engaged- right @VitoScalia3 ?
May 24th, 2012
Joking everyone! IM NOT ENGAGED- I figured if Blogs can make up fake stories then I could too just to show how silly it is!

I never was! We both decided its best to take our time RT “@ssydneyyy: @Laurenmanzo are you not engaged anymore?”
Jan 8th, 2013
Lauren most likely planned to re-enact the engagement for the cameras in RHONJ season 5 until the Manzos realized they could use it to pitch a spinoff for the family, which is exactly what they did and why they delayed the official announcement of Lauren and Vito’s engagement until November 2013 (their spinoff was announced in September 2013).
Also, note that in the RHONJ season 5 finale Caroline said she wanted to see Lauren in a wedding gown coming down the staircase in her Franklin Lakes home… all part of the plan to get viewers to tune into their spinoff.
Vito and Lauren recently re-enacted the proposal for the Manzo spinoff, which is currently taping.
The following is an excerpt from a November 15, 2013 People magazine story about Lauren’s engagement:
“He had a big bouquet of red roses and got down on one knee. When I looked up, both of our families were in the window and he was crying and shaking and I’m hysterically crying. It was amazing – the moment that every girl waits for. My mom was on cloud nine all day,” Lauren says. “I was wondering why she was so happy.”
And now, of course, the planning begins for a wedding that will probably happen next summer – perhaps at the church at Fordham University, where Scalia went to school. “It’s gorgeous,” says Lauren of the chapel.
Scalia also put plenty of thought into the ring, getting designer Yanina – Lauren’s jeweler since she was 17 – to create the diamond sparkler with white and rose gold accents.
“I remember seeing the ring, and I couldn’t believe he pulled off what I always wanted,” Lauren says. “I am obsessed with it. I don’t know how many carats it is because he won’t tell me, but when I go out to eat with my friends I make them wear it, so I can see what it looks like.”

The Prophecy of Caroline Manzo: In 2011, She Predicted Joe Giudice Would Have to “Pay the Ultimate Price” – Go to Prison
Caroline Manzo predicted in a testimonial (TH) during season 4 episode 13 – which was taped in 2011 – that Teresa Giudice would leave her husband if he goes to prison and then she would write a tell-all book for the sole purpose of making money.
“Prediction: Something may happen where someone has to go somewhere. Teresa’s going to have to pull herself up on her bootstraps and take over. She’ll say, ‘You know what, I tried. I stood by him, but I have to divorce him now. And I’m gonna show my daughters what it’s like to be strong and independent on your own and survive.’ There’s a book in there – you heard it here first!”
Caroline also said that Teresa pushed Juicy to his limit “trying to keep up with the Gorgas;” and, as a result, he will pay the “ultimate price” for Teresa “wanting it all”:
“Teresa wants it all, and I think that the demands she put on him led him to make decisions that weren’t the best. And I think he resents her for it, and he’s going to pay the ultimate price for it.”
By “ultimate price,” Caroline means Juicy will be going to prison.
Caroline implied in her June 4, 2012, Bravo Blog that if it wasn’t for Teresa’s demands, Juicy would be a “fun, carefree man, happy to be living in a cardboard box”:
“I also meant what I said about him being a shell of the man I met a few years ago. The Joe I remember was fun, carefree. I truly believe that back then he didn’t need more than a good cigar, a bottle of homemade wine, and his family and friends around him to be happy. The guy could live in a cardboard box and be happy. Something changed along the way, and he’s become bitter, guarded. Sad, we all miss the old Joe. I’m not saying this for brownie points, or to be politically correct. I mean this sincerely.”
Us Weekly, the go-to magazine for the Manzos/Lauritas/Gorgas, ran a story on May 29, 2012, which was very similar to what Caroline said in her season 4 episode 13 testimonial. Here’s the quote from a ‘show source’:
“If Joe goes to jail, there will be sympathy for her. And she’ll get a spinoff about life as a single mom. She’ll do a book deal, too: ‘My Life Without Joe’ or something like that.”
Caroline went on WWHL the night season 4 episode 13 premiered on July 22, 2012, and defended her comments. Below is the Bravo video link for Caroline’s prediction that Juicy will go to prison (season 4 episode 13) plus the video of Caroline’s appearance on WWHL where she expands on her prediction.
Also during season 4, Chris Laurita said “someone will have to take the fall” when he and Jacqueline were discussing whether or not Teresa would go to jail. He was emphasizing, like his sister Caroline, that Juicy was going to take the fall for Teresa’s desire to live the good life.
Furthermore, during season 4, Jacqueline implied that the Giudice’s marriage was on the rocks, saying, “Joe and Teresa are both leading separate lives.” This is very similar to what a ‘show source’ told Us Weekly on May 18, 2012:
“A ‘show source’ told Us Weekly that what’s shown on TV only scratches the surface of the Giudice family’s unhappy home. ‘They’re so dysfunctional that it’s all starting to come out,’ said the ‘show source’ of Teresa and Joe.
In her Bravo blog, Teresa addressed Jacqueline’s on-camera gossip that she and Juicy lead separate lives:
“No, we don’t lead ‘separate lives.’ I have no idea why Jacqueline would bring up that rumor — she seems to love to bring up crazy rumors on camera about everyone else. Not very nice, and definitely not true. Joe still does and always has lived in our house (he’s never had a separate ‘work apartment’ or anything), and he sleeps in our bed with me every night.”
In an obscure October 11, 2012 interview by Chaunce Hayden, Rosie Pierri reiterated what Caroline said earlier in June and July 2012 about Juicy being “a shell of the man” he used to be because “Teresa wants it all” – Rosie actually said, “I think my cousin ruined him.”
“I like Joe a lot. He was a respectable guy. I think, in my opinion, I think my cousin ruined him. I never seen Joe angry back then. After 20 years gone by, I don’t know, I really shouldn’t say, it’s just my opinion. Maybe I’m wrong, and that’s fine. I think the man tried, tried, tried, tried, tried, and she’s like, ‘I want this! I want that! I want this!’ – Rosie Pierri, October 11, 2012
Sylvia Smith on 2013/08/09 at 2:56 PM at Fame-Whorgas commented that Jacqueline and others spent the entire season 4 trying to trick Teresa into revealing on camera what could be incriminating information:
I think it’s no coincidence that Jacqueline especially, but probably the others, spent the entire season 4 trying to trick Teresa into revealing on camera what could be incriminating information. There was no reason on earth that Jacqueline should be so intent on finding out about Teresa’s finances, if she was paid for articles, and other personal information – unless she was going to use it in some way. Is it really so far fetched that Jacqueline and others agreed to work with the Feds to get the Giudices in order to make their own cases disappear? Each of the other cast members has either been silent or said they won’t speak about the case and have claimed they reached out directly – very carefully worded – they didn’t say they showed their support. Sounds to me like they’re taking the Fifth! Maybe they’ll be witnesses for the prosecution and have to stay quiet for now.
The following is an excerpt from Jacqueline’s Bravo blog about the deck scene in season 4 episode 8 (taped in early August 2011), where she questioned Teresa about her bankruptcy filing, current lifestyle choices, and getting paid for tabloid stories – the scene lasted for five hours before Caroline was called in to help with the interrogation.
Jacqueline wrote that Teresa was “profiting from people’s pity,” “so much about her life was being fabricated,” “there seemed to be no shortage of money to me,” and “she was really living the high life.” Jacqueline also wrote that she “was starting not to respect Teresa’s choices,” “was trying her best not to judge some of the Giudice’s life style choices during that time,” “wanted answers to all her questions,” felt justified “prying into Teresa’s business because she was her friend,” wanted to know if Teresa “really was in trouble and getting deeper in debt,” and “needed to get Teresa to open her eyes to the reality of certain situations she was creating.”
