Teresa Giudice Turned Down a Bravo Spinoff Says Her Good Friend Heather Maclean; Manzos Got Spinoff Because of Lauren’s Wedding

November 15, 2013

heather 10

“I have no reason to bring down or (further) humiliate my own family. Caroline and Jacqueline however have a million reasons to want to hurt me and my family and make us look bad… The show started out as all about their family. They were the stars, I was just the silly friend. I wasn’t interested in doing a show with my family at all. I’m still not. I turn down opportunities for my own TV show all the time, because I won’t do a show that exploits me and my kids. I know other people are super into that and would jump at the chance, especially for all the money, but I won’t do it. I won’t sell out my family.” – Teresa Giudice’s Bravo Blog, In Wonderland, August 28, 2012

On September 27, 2013 and November 6, 2013, Teresa Giudice’s good friend of five years and co-writer of her cookbooks, Heather Maclean (@heathermaclean), responded to some fans who were questioning why Teresa wasn’t given a Bravo spinoff.

A follower asked Heather:

“Did Teresa get an offer and turned it down? I hoped that’s what happened, at least. I was LIVID when I heard the Manzos got offered one.”

Heather responded:

“Yes she did and yes she did. She truly isn’t a fame chaser. Just wants what’s best for her family and that’s not always (ever?) TV.”

Heather tweeted that Teresa turned down a spinoff offer from Bravo because “it wasn’t right for her family”:

“Teresa just publicly stated she was offered a spinoff from Bravo but declined because it wasn’t right for her family.

“Have you seen all the family fighting and tears in the previews of Tamra’s and Nene’s own shows? Exactly why Teresa keeps turning them down.”

When a fan tweeted that “Milania needs her own show – actually, that kid needs her own network!,” Heather replied that “she does!” but Bravo doesn’t “do cute”:

“She does! But Bravo said they don’t do ‘cute.’ They’re Bravo ‘not TLC’.” 😦

Furthermore, on October 14, 2013, Heather asserted that Caroline Manzo did not leave RHONJ on her own accord and said that the reason the Manzos got their own show is because Teresa turned down Bravo’s spinoff offer:

heather 11

Although Heather claims the reason Caroline got her own show is because Teresa turned down a Bravo spinoff offer, it seems more likely that the Manzos were given a spinoff because Lauren is getting married which, according to Andy Cohen, is the “natural way” to “lend itself” to another ‘Real Housewives’ series. Andy told TheWrap on April 16, 2013:

“The shows that we’ve picked up have been because the women have other things going on. Kim’s show started with her getting married, which is really the natural way to, it lends itself well to another series, you know?”

Bravo loves weddings, which is how the Manzos pitched their spinoff and why Bravo greenlighted the series. On May 22, 2013, Bravo announced that ‘Real Housewives of O.C.’s’ Tamra Barney landed a spinoff, which featured the road to her summer wedding; and in April 2013, Bravo announced a spinoff series for Atlanta’s NeNe Leakes that captured her road to re-marrying ex-husband Gregg Leakes (NeNe and Gregg divorced in 2011 after roughly 13 years of marriage; the couple announced in January 2013 that they were tying the knot once again – so they were divorced barely a year before deciding to remarry, which makes you wonder if this was all done for the show and a future wedding spinoff). Bravo taped the renewal of the Giudice’s wedding vows in September 2011 (see image below) but the footage never made the show, probably because of all the drama that ensued when the Gorgas and Wakiles were added to the cast.

The scenes and THs (testimonials) in RHONJ season 5 of Lauren saying she wasn’t interested in getting engaged because she was focused on Cafface, etc., were staged – she got engaged almost a year earlier, in May 2012, when the cameras were not rolling (they were between seasons). On May 23, 2012 Lauren tweeted a photo of her ring with a cryptic message, but denied she was engaged when bloggers picked up on it:

engaged 4

I just read the craziest article saying that I am engaged…. I’m not engaged- right @VitoScalia3 ?
May 24th, 2012

Joking everyone! IM NOT ENGAGED- I figured if Blogs can make up fake stories then I could too just to show how silly it is!
May 24th, 2012

@MarigoPR lol noo it was a joke – some blog made up I was engaged so I went w it
Jun 6th, 2012

I never was! We both decided its best to take our time RT “@ssydneyyy: @Laurenmanzo are you not engaged anymore?”
Jan 8th, 2013

Lauren most likely planned to re-enact the engagement for the cameras in RHONJ season 5 until the Manzos realized they could use it to pitch a spinoff for the family, which is exactly what they did and why they delayed the official announcement of Lauren and Vito’s engagement until November 2013 (their spinoff was announced in September 2013).

Also, note that in the RHONJ season 5 finale Caroline said she wanted to see Lauren in a wedding gown coming down the staircase in her Franklin Lakes home… all part of the plan to get viewers to tune into their spinoff.

Vito and Lauren recently re-enacted the proposal for the Manzo spinoff, which is currently taping.

The following is an excerpt from a November 15, 2013 People magazine story about Lauren’s engagement:

“He had a big bouquet of red roses and got down on one knee. When I looked up, both of our families were in the window and he was crying and shaking and I’m hysterically crying. It was amazing – the moment that every girl waits for. My mom was on cloud nine all day,” Lauren says. “I was wondering why she was so happy.”

And now, of course, the planning begins for a wedding that will probably happen next summer – perhaps at the church at Fordham University, where Scalia went to school. “It’s gorgeous,” says Lauren of the chapel.

Scalia also put plenty of thought into the ring, getting designer Yanina – Lauren’s jeweler since she was 17 – to create the diamond sparkler with white and rose gold accents.

“I remember seeing the ring, and I couldn’t believe he pulled off what I always wanted,” Lauren says. “I am obsessed with it. I don’t know how many carats it is because he won’t tell me, but when I go out to eat with my friends I make them wear it, so I can see what it looks like.”

The following are Lauren’s recent tweets/retweets about her engagement:

This is off topic but has anyone heard that BravoAndy is no more he has been fired as reported by radaronline.com. They had a link in their article about how Bravo let him go quietly with a 2 yr. renewal on WWHL and still hosting RH. His new production company is a way for him to leave with some dignity. They claim on one blog, siting a source in BRAVO that his mixing and chopping the time lines in RHONJ was one of the deciding factors and the scripting of the shows and ratings fall. I guess KARMA’s a bitch!

Your 100 percent spot on, I didn’t know that the editing was the reason. They tried to play it up that he would have his own production company that would produce the housewives show and that he would “be in control”, but that’s bullshit. Because his executive VP position of shows had him in control of the money from Bravo and the Bravo exec’s ear. By him being removed, he’s just another production company that has to get the okay for this or that from the new person that will be in his old position.

His hatred of Teresa and Joe and his zealotry push of his gay agenda over everything put him in this situation. People saw through the bias to the point that it became a problem. Hell they may have told him not to do it but he continued and they decided to shit can him. I knew he would go to far protecting people and now it cost him. I feel sorry for Caroline and her childrens show, because I bet anything they won’t care what she wants or not wants, she does what they contracted for. Oh probably the second to the last straw was JacDaniels being allowed to be back on the show after she contractually didn’t go onto the reunion. They could have sued her ass big time but Andy stood in the way with Caroline helping.

          • December 5, 2013 at 11:43 AM

Excuse me Buck Henry, did you just say that Andy Cohen pushes a gay agenda? What would that be? Can you elaborate on this “gay agenda”?

I’m no big Andy fan, but what’s the big deal if he just hosts “Watch?” That alone seems like a good gig, and if that’s where his talent is, so be it. He’s come up with a unique show concept that is pretty popular. He’s getting real celebs. Seems like a lot of fun for him. Producing reality tv seems like a crap job anyway.

Milania needs a show – where the hell is TLC?!
I’m sure she would bring in more ad revenue than Honey Boo Boo. But they’d have to top Teresa’s contract salary since there’s no way Bravo would let her do both.
Fame – you should post the “Top 10 Miliania Moments” from Bravo’s website – definitely cracks me up.

Who honestly has an intentions of watching that nasty ass Caroline cheating ass Albert and bitch Lauren fat azz complain about being “skinny” for her a wedding? Nobody wants to see that shit. Teresa sometimes I think is broaderline extra stupid, but I’m still a huge fan of hers and nobody, and I do mean, nobody can’t say that she’s not thinking of her family 95.5% of the time. You an can totally tell that while she likes the camera, and it obviously likes her, she’s not thirsty and she’s not willing to do anything to get on camera. Right now a spin off isn’t what she wants. But I am hoping that she decides to do a show with her girls; it would be oh so entertaining.

Hi Andrea….call it a low self esteem day but as much as I don’t care for Lauren’s attitude on NJ but as a plus girl please don’t call her fat. Yes I am jealous that my daddy didn’t buy me a lap band and yes I think she should have tried harder to loose it on her own. Sorry I am having a bad week but chunky people know they are chunky. We don’t need others telling us that. I relate to her weight problems

    • Buck Henry
      November 18, 2013 at 1:25 AM

Teresa’s friend told a half truth. Yes she turned it down, but she turned it down because they wanted it focused on HER FAMILY (that means Joe and his side of the family and others). And as we see Joe didn’t want that and that means Teresa didn’t want that. She wanted a show on her cooking which they weren’t going for. Joe would have loved that because it would have him out of the limelight. And with the 39 count federal indictment and other things that may be in the workings we can see why he and she wouldn’t want to have to big of a camera focused on them and them alone. Hey isn’t it funny that we don’t see Joe’s brother and father around that much when the cameras are around. And if you don’t think that Pete his brother wasn’t doing the same things I have a bridge to sell you.

Teresa loves the camera otherwise she wouldn’t have gotten on the show and/or stayed on it. She just wanted it focused on her doing things and keep her husband and his business out of the limelight.

        November 18, 2013 at 2:48 PM

The statement was that she turned it down because she wants what is best for her family. If what you’re saying is true and joe didn’t want that and his father and brother have something to hide than….the statement is true that she wanted what was best for her family and doing a show solely centered on them was not in their best interest. Btw, maybe you are right and joe’s family have something to hide or maybe they just don’t want to be on tv. I know I wouldn’t want to be and I don’t have anything to hide, I’m just shy.

It appears they were at some event in February and Caroline seems quite smitten. Pictures of the two are reminiscent of Susan Boyle’s crush on Piers Morgan.

        Thanks GPM!

Robert Irvine, Caroline Manzo and others attended South Beach Wine and Food Festival 2013 Grand Tasting Village on February 24, 2013 in Miami Beach, Florida.

Caroline definitely favors men over women, and she is a flirt, probably because Al is hardly ever around.

The manzos are kissing up to him big time it is sad to see. They obviously want to get some guest spot with him, or one day their own cooking show. They are great at kissing up to producers to get what they want. This is how they operate. They can’t just go away and admit defeat ever.

Like I’ve said before ” I will not be watching that show”. I liked this family at the beginning but when they started to say or do stupid things (making fun of friends, throwing the ham, calling your daughter names on tv) it was too much for me. I’m part Italian and married into an Italian family and you just don’t behave that way. I’ll never forget the image of her cooking the Christmas Eve meal and spending the night with a T-shirt on…even when I cook on my holidays, with about 30 people, you still change and be presentable for your guests. When Tre said that Caroline was only 1/16 of Italian…I believed her!

      • Buck Henry
        November 18, 2013 at 1:38 AM

And that should tell you something, did they TRULY get a spin-off or did they get an agreement to show a pilot for a show and hope that Bravo will like it. Remember that show almost 3 to 4 years ago with that Italian family from Philadelphia who lived in the burbs in that big house and where everybody in the extended family either lived in or mooched at the house? It was a pilot during the summer back then (one episode) and it went no where.

That group may have paid for or got a production company to foot the filming for a possibly show and Bravo saw it and said no (which I remembered the name). Bravo is willing to look at anything that they didn’t have to pay for and they are willing to allow this to show, but if it’s real bad they may get shot down before it airing.

        • November 18, 2013 at 2:07 PM

Exactly Buck, I do not believe Bravo promised them anything. This is a big gamble to take, but again, they will do anything to get their kids promoted.

        • LifeIsGood

I think Bravo gave them a pilot. Whether the network will order future episodes will depend on the reception the pilot receives. They may get an order for 6-8 episodes, but I honestly can’t see this project taking off.

I doubt that the Manzos financed their own pilot. I’m sure Bravo picked up the tab on that one.

Xtra gross 2 think bout the 1st season Caroline ranting bout “I’m only on the show 2 back Dina up” My how time a changes & ppls egos…no one will watch this show, it’ll b worse than the ATL doc wives show whatever that was??

    • November 16, 2013 at 12:24 PM

Speaking about Dina, Did anyone see her on Oprah’s program last night. It’s call WHERE ARE THEY NOW She basically said after the famous table flip the show turned dark. She would go home after filming and start shaking. She also said the show made the problems she already had with her sister and brother a lot more intense. She spoke about still living with her husband even though she announced their separation. It was interesting.

      • November 16, 2013 at 7:32 PM

I saw it when originally aired. I disagree that the flip turned the show dark, it was S3 and the Gorgas and Wakilies, The flip might of have been dark for her as the events surrounding it showed her SIL and brother did not have her back at all.

As far as still living with Tommy, I bet that is why is rejoining the show as she $$ to attempt to sustain her lifestyle.

Yeah might be up for a Sausages Spinoff! But I will say that the Manzo’s haven’t a prayer if Josh Altman and Heather Bilou’s wedding is aired on Bravo at the same time!

I did not realize that Bravo taped Teresa’s vows. Now I see where all of the cast hatred came from…probably Jac and Chris planned to do the renewal to either try for a spin-off or get a solid story line but Teresa beat them to the punch (remember all of the chatter about being selfish and only caring about herself???THAT’s what it is referring to!!!) And from Bravo’s perspective, I bet she was not supposed to talk to the mags AT ALL and she kept running her mouth (recall her response was always “when they call and ask questions I answer!!”) and Bravo got pissed too and threw the whole magazine story line in to the season but used the cast as a the sounding board.
There is not much we can be certain of, but this one is for sure, Andy was NOT happy about the magazine stuff w Teresa bc he confronted her about it too(he said something about being in his office and finding something out about her in a magazine article…whatever the case, he was NOT happy about the circumstances)!! So basically, the whole argument came down to splitting hairs about whether or not she was initiating sharing the information (and if she was, of course the incentive there would be monetary compensation). I am wondering if Teresa was sharing some stuff and got a sense if the negativity that it was causing so just denied it but I do not think she “leaked” all of the stuff that was written about her and her cast mates. Teresa referred to things Jac and Caro did publicly against Danielle. I wonder if Ashlee had a hand in using similar tactics “anonymously” against Teresa?

I didn’t know Bravo taped her wedding vows, and they didn’t show it. As your said in revenge for what was going on ANDY killed or let lay on the floor those vows and through meat to the cast dogs. I never thought the wedding thing was such a big deal and that also slipped my mind. I remember when it was all in the magazines and then finding out Bravo taped but didn’t air it? Somebody (Andy) was mad.

      @ Miami
Jackhole didn’t want to renew her vows; she only wanted new pictures. It was clearly stated in the extra footage show. Just pics. No vows. Weird. That’s Jackhole.

So she gets married in a park wearing pants and a shirt….so years later, you want to just have new pictures without renewing your vows…who does that! It would have gave it more meaning…I guess that couldn’t afford it….

        • November 18, 2013 at 1:29 PM

If my memory serves me right, Jacqueline said that Bravo asked her to renew her vows for the show but Chris said no, and then Teresa jumped on it – or something like that. I think this scene was during a cast trip when everyone was whining about Teresa doing another magazine cover.

      • November 16, 2013 at 7:21 PM

It looks to me that it’s four stones??? lighting could be the reason.

    • November 16, 2013 at 6:34 PM

It looks like multiple to me, but it could be the lighting. I personally think it’s way too big and not practical, but that’s me. My original a 3 carat and it got it in the way all of the time, I hated it. I had a new one made that is simple — a green tourmaline emerald cut center stone (emeralds are too soft for daily wear) and the band is black opal. I love it and get more compliments on it than I did my original.

      • November 17, 2013 at 12:24 AM

why are we talking about a ring? duck d is great

      • November 17, 2013 at 2:28 PM

Teresa is green with envy because of Caroline and that’s too bad because green doesn’t really go with orange!!!

    • November 16, 2013 at 7:03 PM

Teresa had stated several times prior to the Manzoid’s spin-off that she he had been offered a few but they wanted them to revolve her family, which she did not want. Teresa also has repeatedly stated that she wants a cooking show.

    • November 16, 2013 at 7:07 PM

Ummm not a ghost writer if it’s known that she helped write her books. As for her blogs lots of intelligent people (myself included) write better than they talk. As for her being green with envy…it’s pretty obvious neither one is jealous nor envious of the other

  15. dch60
    November 16, 2013 at 4:05 PM

Jac came out and said she was pissed at Teresa because Jac was supposed to renew her vows and then Teresa jumped on it. I think they were at Jamie’s wedding and one of the Manzo’s picked up the mag with Teresa’s “wedding” pic on it. That’s when Jac said something… I honestly don’t remember if she said it to Teresa or in a talking head. Maybe she said it to Chris? In any case, I seriously doubt it was Teresa’s idea… more like Bravo/Andy’s. It’s not Teresa’s fault Jac is boring and unlikeable and Teresa is the opposite. If someone doesn’t love Teresa, more so than not, they at least love to hate her.

Anyway… this was just one reason of many that converted Caroline and Jac to “Team TSIL.” I remember discussing it all at the time. It was this, that and the other thing but it was pretty clear it wasn’t for the reasons Caroline and Jac claimed on the show. I remember Caroline saying we had to “read between the lines.” UGH! I wish I could unsee that season. Only watched the beginning of this season and I’m not sure about season six since the wicked witch of the east and her biotch (TB) are still around.

At this point I seriously doubt Teresa could even commit to a spin-off. It’s not good timing to say the least. I’m not sure I believe Teresa would like the cameras on herself to that extent. It’s a completely different animal… filming with 5+ women (and in NJ’s case… a dozen men) and having 100% of the attention, each and every show. Apples and oranges.

Honestly, I find it interesting that Bravo did NOT come right out and offer the spin-off to the Manzos. Originally I had heard that they were completely on their own doing the pilot. It had to be filmed, paid for, edited, etc. and then they had to hope SOMEONE picked it up. If they’re on their own with the pilot financially, is it a done deal with Bravo? Do they already have a slot for it? I don’t know… it’s kinda weird if the Manzos are financially responsible that Bravo “offered” it to them. Bethenny’s, Kim’s, Tamra’s or Nene’s were Bravo’s from the start, including financing it. Something just doesn’t add up.

Oh well… hope everyone is doing well. 🙂

    • November 16, 2013 at 7:26 PM

dch60, I should of read your post before posting above. But I did hear they financed their pilot somewhere other than here.

OT – I can’t find the oak tree poem. I was going to print it out for a friend who has been through so much. Abusive first marriage, cancer, several strokes, parent estate issues and siblings, and now her apartment caught fire and she lost so much stuff.

    • November 16, 2013 at 6:38 PM

      Here it is, kayswhims:

A mighty wind blew night and day.
It stole the Oak Tree’s leaves away.
      Then snapped its boughs
      and pulled its bark
until the Oak was tired and stark.

But still the Oak Tree held its ground
while other trees fell all around.
The weary wind gave up and spoke,
“How can you still be standing Oak?”

The Oak Tree said, I know that you
can break each branch of mine in two,
      carry every leaf away,
shake my limbs and make me sway.

But I have roots stretched in the earth,
      growing stronger since my birth.
You’ll never touch them, for you see
they are the deepest part of me.

      Until today, I wasn’t sure
of just how much I could endure.
But now I’ve found with thanks to you,
I’m stronger than I ever knew.

Bravo probably wanted to do a spinoff for Teresa about her family, including the children, going through their legal woes. Thanks but no thanks. Not something that should be aired . I’m guessing they didn’t want to do a cooking show highlighting fun, family, and food.

So sad that Bravo is doing a spin-off about such an ordinary family. The old saying “I’d be rich if I could buy the Manzos for what they’re worth and sell them for what they think they’re worth” comes to mind. IMO, Bravo is hedging their bets, that like a train wreck, people won’t be able to look away. The whole Manzo family seems shady to me, unkept and miserable.

    • GPM
      November 17, 2013 at 11:50 AM

I felt guilty when I had precisely the same thought regarding her fingers — sausages! (Well, in truth the thought went something like “Where are her nails? Did she eat them, too?!?)

I remain quite surprised that, given her background as a makeup — what, person? — her aunt’s background as a beautician and her controlling mother’s unrelenting quest for the spotlight, no one suggested that she get some discrete and tastefully done acrylic or sculptured nails for these obviously posed and heavily promoted pictures.

I understand that, just like TB’s short stature and hairless head, she’s got to work with what she’s got, but her manicure choices really do make her poor unfortunate fingers look even stubbier and more like sausages than they need to. I know Vito works in his family’s deli — and we all know this girl likes to eat — but surely sausages aren’t the look she’s going for here!?!

I am reminded more and more of the wedding in Working Girl. At least Swamp People are novel!

      Hi Elle,
Well, if this jeweler has been Lauren’s jeweler for 17 yrs she’s not a very good one when it comes to creating balance to a woman’s hands. This jeweler should of done the right thing and insisted to Vito to choose a ring with height so her fingers don’t appear so stubby. ( I have the same type of short fingers) and as I would love love love a ring that doesn’t have height at the setting,( because it’s not very convenient). I don’t have a choice because ” flat” rings don’t complement my ring finger or my hands.

I find weird that her controling mom didn’t demand that Lauren get a wedding ring with a high setting so her fingers don’t look so stubby.

Now, I’m not by any means making fun of Lauren’s short hands, as I said I have very small hands myself and my wedding ring sits pretty high it has to otherwise my fingers would look so much shorter and not very attractive for me to look at my own hand.

Off topic, but notable. A Housewife (of sorts) sighting in an unusual place:

I was sitting upstairs on an express train this morning in my favorite seat, comfortably enjoying a nice cup of coffee. The train pulled in to Ridgewood at 7:36. Lo and behold, but guess what came up the staircase. None other that the infamous Kim G! She was wearing all black outfit. She sat five seats away on the aisle facing me. I was just dying to whip out the phone and snap a picture but it would have been way too obvious – I’m sure the flash would have gone off. I tried taking a video but all you can see is the top of her head and the bald guy in front of her. 😦

I went downstairs at Secaucus to transfer to Penn Station but she stayed in her seat for Hoboken. What a way to start the week….

Gee, I guess Ms. Grannypants Moneybags’ driver wasn’t available this morning and she had to mingle with the common folk on mass transit.

Sorry about the start of your day, Saddle! Hope it got better!

One bright spot was that I noticed that not a single other passenger (in a 3 level, packed rail car) even noticed her. For all her aspirations to be famous, she was an invisible unknown this morning.

        • November 18, 2013 at 5:04 PM

Does she look as rode hard and put away wet in person as she does on TV in pics?

Honestly – without the professional makeup and hair, the expensive clothes, she looks like a frail little old lady – but a very pretty one. I’ll be fair – when the conductor comes through the “regular” commuters just flash a monthly in silence or have stuck thier ticket in the seatback. Kim was very pleasant and freindly with the conductor and gave him a genuine looking smile and a “good morning”. This was “off stage” and she did appear to be gracious everyone else around her was in oblivion. I really can’t deliver one of my “zingers” this time…

Kim G. on the TRAIN!?!?! What happened to her driver? Must have had the day off… although I would have thought she’d have a line of them on stand-by. Of course she’d wear all black for the occasion.

How did she look in person? It’s amazing how different people can look in person as opposed to on tv, pics, etc.

        November 20, 2013 at 12:03 AM

Actually taking the train is a smart move. You can get in to mid-town Manhattan in about 30 min in real comfort on the train. Driving in at that time and you will hit at least a 45 min wait at the tunnel on top of any traffic on Rt 17 or 3. That whole driver thing is really pretentious and laughable. We hired one a few years back when my mom had a pinched nerve. She refused to use him and made colorful comments about a car that cost more than a house (which we already owned anyway) and not wanting to loo like Miss Daisy. Well she was right. We compromised and contracted for black car service on a trip basis. Never used that either. The real costs for a car and driver are obscene and the only reason someone with Kim’s kind of money to have one is to put on airs. She looks good even without the professional makeup.

Joe Giudice’s state court date for identity theft and forgery set for November 19th will be put off until 2014 because the judge is wrapped up in another trial; and the state trial may be trumped by the federal trial for money fraud scheduled for February 24, 2014:

    • November 18, 2013 at 8:17 PM

How many times has it been postponed? What previous reasons have been given for the continuance? In New jersey, when can a defendant move to dismiss for violation of their right to a. speedy trial?

I’m sure Joe’s attorney has had it postponed a number of those times, otherwise you’re correct… they would have to have damn good reasons to keep adjourning it.

‘Real Housewives’ Teresa and Joe Giudice facing more charges
      Monday November 18, 2013, 3:07 PM
      The Record
Teresa and Giuseppe “Joe” Giudice, stars of Bravo television’s “The Real Housewives of New Jersey,” were indicted Monday on additional charges of bank fraud and loan application fraud after being charged this summer with 39 other related counts. The new indictment, returned by a federal grand jury against Teresa Giudice, 41, and her husband, Giuseppe “Joe” Giudice, 43, both of Towaco, adds two new counts against each defendant: one count of bank fraud and one count of loan application fraud. The original 39 counts on which they were indicted on July 29, 2013, include conspiracy to commit mail and wire fraud, bank fraud, making false statements on loan applications and bankruptcy fraud, as well as charges against Giuseppe Giudice for failure to file tax returns from 2004 through 2008, remain in place. – See more at: http://www.northjersey.com/news/More_charges_for_Real_Housewives_Teresa_and_Joe_Giudice.html#sthash.EonXp62S.dpuf

Here is a more detailed explanation of the new additional charges against both Joe and Teresa:

“New federal indictment brings more charges against ‘Real Housewives of New Jersey’ cast members

YOU READ IT HERE FIRST: A federal grand jury added two counts to the original charges against Teresa and Joe Giudice of “The Real Housewives of New Jersey,” who are accused of lying on applications for mortgages and other loans when they didn’t have much money, then trying to hide assets — including nearly $1 million in income — during bankruptcy proceedings.

The 41-count superseding indictment returned today adds bank and loan application fraud charges against Teresa Giudice, 41, and Giuseppe “Joe” Giudice, 43, both of Towaco.

This comes on top of the previous indictment, returned in late July, that charges them with conspiring to commit mail and wire fraud, bank fraud by making false statements on loan applications, as well as with bankruptcy fraud. It also accuses Giuseppe Giudice of failing to file tax returns on nearly $1 million of income for the tax years 2004 through 2008.

“Everyone has an obligation to tell the truth when dealing with the courts, paying their taxes and applying for loans or mortgages,” U.S. Attorney Paul J. Fishman said when the original indictment was returned. “That’s reality.”

        According to Fishman:

“The two additional counts stem from a $361,250 mortgage loan that Teresa Giudice obtained in July 2005. In the course of obtaining the loan, she and Giuseppe Giudice prepared a loan application which falsely stated that Teresa Giudice was employed as a realtor and that she had a monthly salary of $15,000. Teresa Giudice was not employed outside the home at the time.”

According to the initial indicdtment, the Bravo television show couple submitted bogus mortgage and other loan applications and supporting documents for seven years, beginning in 2001, that “falsely represented that they were employed and/or receiving substantial salaries when, in fact, they were either not employed or not receiving such salaries.”

For example, it says, Teresa Giudice applied for a mortgage loan of $121,500 in September 2001 “for which she submitted a loan application that falsely claimed that she was employed as an executive assistant. She also submitted fake W-2 Forms and fake paystubs purportedly issued by her employer.”

The indictment also cites specific instances of alleged bank and loan application fraud.

On Oct. 29, 2009, the Giudices filed a petition for individual Chapter 7 bankruptcy protection in U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Newark. Over the next few months, the indictment says, they filed several amendments to the bankruptcy petition.

As part of the bankruptcy filings, the Giudices were required to disclose to the government trustee, among other things, assets, liabilities, income, and any anticipated increase in income. The indictment alleges that they “intentionally concealed businesses they owned, income they received from a rental property, and Teresa Giudice’s true income from the television show.”

They also hid income from website sales and personal and magazine appearances, it says.

What’s more, the government says, the Giudices “concealed their anticipated increase in income from the then-upcoming Season Two of the Bravo television show.”

Technically, federal conspiracy to commit mail and wire fraud count carries a maximum potential penalty of 20 years of in prison and a $250,000 fine – although a guilty plea or conviction would bring far less than that.

The same applies to the fraud counts, which carry maximum prison terms of up to 30 years and $1 million in fines.

The bankruptcy fraud offenses can each bring up to five years in a federal penitentiary and a $250,000 fine, while failing to file a tax return exposes those convicted to up a year in prison and $100,000 in fines.

Fishman credited special agents of the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation, Office of Inspector General, New York Region; special agents of IRS-Criminal Investigation; Region 3 U.S. Trustee Roberta DeAngelis and the Newark office of the U.S. Trustee, with the investigation that led to today’s indictment.

The case is being handled by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Jonathan W. Romankow and Rachael Honig.

Defense attorneys Miles Feinstein (Giuseppe Giudice) and Henry Klingeman (Teresa Giudice) are representing the couple.

“The privilege of living well in the United States carries certain real responsibilities, including filing tax returns when required and paying the correct amount of tax,” said Shantelle P. Kitchen, Special Agent in Charge of the Newark office of IRS-Criminal Investigation.

        A. Derek Evans, who heads the FDIC Office of Inspector General, added that “the American people need to be assured that their government is working to ensure integrity in the financial services and housing industries and that those involved in criminal misconduct that undermines that integrity will be held accountable.”

So, did anyone catch that part of the newer chargers were from not reporting earnings from “personal and magazine appearances?!” Well well well, surprise surprise-SMDH!!! I know that on FW we have mostly been of the thought that her cast mates, family and boss were heavily involved behind the scenes with her indictment- I wonder if she is starting to see that yet??

I see what some people are saying about them not being good parents because of these poor decisions they have made but I respectfully do not agree. I think that in fact this is a case of the opposite, doing too much of a bad thing because they love their kids very much and wanted to give them the world. I think that this is an example of the evils of materialism and to be quite frank-just good old fashioned stupidity!!

I do not think Joe Giudice invented the concept of loan fraud, someone probably showed him and it was too easy to not keep doing and then in came the TV show which created a lot of envy directed at his family. As we have seen, envy can turn even a blood-related, loved one into an unrecognizable monster…imagine what it does to people who really do hate?!!

Anyways, I do think they were trying to keep up with Jones’…well, in this case the Columbo’s and it came back to bite them. The only issue I have had from day one(well, S3) and continue to have is the fact that the other cast members have been involved in similar and in some cases worse behavior and they get a public pass!!!

Yes the Giudice’s were wrong to commit fraud-WE GET IT!!! But what about the Manzo’s political and non-profit fraud?! What about the lawsuit against the Laurita’s that has an amount cited that is ten-fold compared to the Giudice’s? That is the part that makes this inconceivable…to me anyways

                November 19, 2013 at 7:39 PM

Oh, about the parenting thing, I forgot to say, I also think that when you live in a culture of crime (whether that crime is fraud, mob hits or both and more…) you see the world from that lens. It could seem natural,it is learned behavior, you do not pick it apart in terms of right and wrong-ESPECIALLY if you are surrounded by it. In fact, in many cases, going against the culture can be harmful and I do not know if any of this applies to the Giudice’s I just urge ppl to think about this from a more global perspective. Again, this is not to condone or agree with what they have done, but just my way of trying to understand it…

I am drawing from professional and some personal experience but mostly from Mob Wives where they gloat about their criminal lifestyles or what I just called a culture of crime. They see many things wrong with the way they live but most often seem to find some deeper cultural connection and ultimately celebrate that by staying the course of “the lifestyle.”

The one common thing that I see through all of these Italian cultural representations is that they are fanatical, like crazy in love, about their children!

                  Jack Hole,

I watched MW when it first aired. I stayed with it for a few episodes and then bailed. At first, I thought the idea was interesting – to follow the lives of the women behind the mob men after the bottom falls out and they are off to prison.

What I learned was that these women are almost as corrupt as their men. They continued to enjoy the fruits of their mens’ crimes with no remorse. Every house, every fur coat and every handbag was financed by crime and it didn’t seem to bother them at all. In fact, they seemed to look back with great fondness upon the days when the money was flowing.

Actually, I’m getting p$ssed as each and new count comes out….how could you have done that to your girls (allegedly). I’m sorry, I would have a hard time to control my emotions and be putting on a good face for them. This is serious stuff…Material things are not worth it!!! I can’t figure out how they can live the way they do….just the taxes on the house…utilities…the normal everyday things, times thousands. The humiliation to your daughters….Sorry…my rant is over!

              • November 19, 2013 at 10:17 AM

Agree 100% – no apologies are necessary for me, Miami53, because here is my rant. I am just completely and thoroughly disgusted.

Once a person becomes a parent, selfishness needs to be put aside and the needs of the child should become the primary responsibility. Children are born into this world – completely reliant on their parents for everything. It is their parents they look to when feeling insecure and scared, whether it be physically or emotionally. If the Giudices are guilty of all this, then shame on them for being selfish and thinking they can pull these scams with no consequences – especially for the girls. They didn’t ask for the big house, the fancy cars, vacations, and clothes or their lives being televised on the show. Their needs are very primal – a roof over their heads, enough food to eat, clothing that doesn’t have to come from boutiques, love, support, and the feeling of being “safe” – which can and is accomplished every single day in the poorest of households all over the world. Now the girls will be paying the very high price of what their parents may have done and their worlds will continue to be turned upside down.

I have no doubt Teresa loves and adores her girls and she may feel that by remaining on the show, she is doing what is best but I completely disagree with that decision. The money Teresa is making from the show is a freaking drop in the bucket and will make hardly a dent in the monies owed; past, present, and future. No amount of money will ever replace the time that could be spent with her children – quality time without cameras in their faces. In my opinion, the only thing that could possibly excuse her for continuing to be on the show is that she has already struck a deal that her wages will be garnished so she had no choice – but that scenario is highly doubtful. Teresa says she wants to show her daughters that under times of trouble, their mother remained strong. Teresa can still show she is strong and a supportive mother in many other ways, even without continuing to film a “reality” show.

Time will tell what the outcome of all of this will be once the trial starts, but Teresa and Joe will never get back this opportunity to use this time to ensure they have done everything (as much as they can, under the circumstances) to offset the fallout of this entire debacle and the effect that it will have on the girls for the rest of their lives. The circus of the trial alone will be an awful burden for them to bear. The statements Teresa makes about the girls not knowing – well Audriana may not, but I would bet the other three know something is going on – the atmosphere, tension, and discussions in that house that could potentially be overheard (and I am sure they are) is enough to cause insecurity in their little hearts, let alone the outside world’s influence on them. No doubt this already has and will continue to cause irreparable emotional scars to their daughters.

All I can go by is what I know from my own life experiences and how my own chilhood has formed me as an adult. Maybe that is why I feel so strongly about this because I am well aware, as are so many others here, how a parent’s behaviors and decisions impact their child’s entire life – it is a lifelong influence.

I am not sorry for my rant because in my world, a child’s overall well-being comes first and foremost. As I said, this to me is a truly heartbreaking situation for those kids – however it turns out. I am genuinely sad for them. 😦

Jeannie, I love when you write, you speak so eloquently. I agree with all you have to say. I’m at the point…I’m starting to not like them. This is not a joke..unless they are the small fish and the Feds are hoping they will talk…I just don’t get it. For all the money they are making or have hidden somewhere…its all going to the lawyers…dumb, dumb, dumb. Sometimes I wonder if Joe is another “Teflon Don” able to get out of situations.

        • November 18, 2013 at 7:47 PM

WOW this statement blows my mind away …

          A. Derek Evans, who heads the FDIC Office of Inspector General, added that “the American people need to be assured that their government is working to ensure integrity in the financial services and housing industries and that those involved in criminal misconduct that undermines that integrity will be held accountable.”

I personally want those those that allowed the average Joe to take advantage (allegedly) and perform these acts and in many cases encouraged them to do so to pay the dang price.

I truly do feel this is a witch hunt with Teresa and Juicy as the targets. Do I think T&J had some level of culpability, most likely, but I want the idiots that allowed this to happen if it in fact did to be prosecuted as well.

Patricia I was thinking about this last night after punkinseed posted about the new charges against the Giudices. I had never read the actual indictment as I am unfamiliar with most of the terms. Fame has helped me tremendously with her articles along with fellow posters on this site. So I finally read it.. I still don’t understand most of it. I started looking for information on the mortgage lenders named on the indictment. It all lead back to the mortgage scams and practices going on in New Jersey. JP Morgan and Chase is a name that I often ran into during my searches.

I had not heard about this news but I am not in the least bit surprised.

Thank you when the crash hit so did our income and because our mortgage was bought and owned by JP Morgan but Citi mortgage is who that was keeping account of the loan we were not allowed any assistance Citi mortgage told us they were only an accountability to our particular loan and could not help in any way and JP Morgan could not be reached… It was a nightmare how we were treated, harassed every 30 minutes 7 days a week for a full year, I found a strange man in my barn one morning who told me he could do what he wanted to do because it wasn’t my home it belonged to the bank. It happened several times of people coming to the house making lude remarks and taking pictures and taking pictures of me for coming out asking who they were…

we were lucky that we found a way to get back on track and busted our butts and the Citi mortgage accepted us getting back on track and making up as we could what we were behind but still the phone never stopped ringing, people came to the house and they charged us for the cost to send people. I got a business card from a lady taking pictures, just creepy for stranger to be taking pictures of you without your permission. But that business card was a bomb.. I was assured these people being sent to my house were screened and safe to work directly with the banks. I found out from that business card no one knew who these people were if they were criminals or not as it was a job that was offered out over and over again to anyone that answered an add. I filed a complaint with the company and they never sent another person to the house. I can’t imagine what it was like for the individuals who were not able to recover and how they were treated.. “we can’t help you cause we don’t own your loan but we will terrorize you for not paying…””” It was unbelievable, and they should have to pay for it..

Patricia I’m so sorry you and your family had to experience that. I’m glad you are okay. The settlement that came down today was an atrocity to the American people. They got fined and from my understanding of it, I could be wrong, is that some of the settlement amount is tax deductible, and no one has been criminally charged. SMH.

They get to write their own laws, live by their own rules while stepping on the backs of the hard working people who just want to live the American dream which is fast becoming a horrific nightmare.

Patricia, neither the JP Morgan corporation nor any individual employed by it in any capacity either now or at any time in the past in connection with the systemic fraud perpetrated for years by the banking industry from which it, with full knowledge, profited has been criminally “charged” with anything.

Instead, the banking conglomerate’s president was given the opportunity negotiate in person directly with Attorney General Holder and as a result of those negotiations the corporation has agreed to pay one-half of one’s year’s profit, which is to be allocated to various injured people and entities agreed upon by them. (It should be noted, of course, that previous settlements were left to banks to distribute according to the agreed-upon terms and which the banks, of course, were either unable or unwilling to do.)

None of the hundreds/thousands of individuals who FAILED TO TELL THE TRUTH with respect to the various mortgages they made, either to the borrowers or to the individuals and entities they sold them to — and yes, I’m talking to you, U. S. Attorney Fishman — have been criminally charged with anything.

So apparently “everyone” doesn’t have an obligation to tell the truth with respect to mortgage obligations and that’s the real reality.

And since Mr. Fishman knows it, I guess that makes him a liar, too — but apparently Mr Fishman thinks the obligation to tell the truth only extends to dealings with the courts, taxing authorities and banks and that there’s no obligation for the Department of Justice to tell the American people the truth!

How could they have missed those two charges? I’m really starting to question the whole thing, it seems so unreal. It’s as if someone is trying to bury them by sending in more and more information and the first 39 counts weren’t enough. This case is snowballing into an avalanche against them.

God help them because this case looks like its going to get a lot worse.

My question is — I do not understand why they are adding more counts now. couldn’t they have completed all this before? Not sure how this works.

Fame thanks as always for posting another fascinating article, and the insightful comments that followed were the icing on the cake. You guys are great!

I just wanted to say something a little off topic. Its seems like every time something good happens for Teresa it’s followed by something bad. I don’t know how she is going to continue to face these tidal waves that keep hitting her and her family. I know we jest and joke about the cast members but the news coming out about the Giudices is beyond comprehension for me.

I know she is not perfect nor is Joe, but they are an American family that has been singled out on so many levels and I cant began to count the staggering amount of daggers in their backs. If they want to go after them then why cant they take them all down. If they want to crucifying them and use them as an example, why are they letting the others get away? By allowing those from the cast that have done the same thing or worse to go unpunished is like a slap in the face IMO.

I pray for her family and for God to give her the strength to endure what she is facing.

Oh brother, so Bravo really thinks we’ll watch the Manzo’s to see Lauren? Not in my house.

  37. November 19, 2013 at 9:04 PM

    Did you all see this?
Made me think about Al and Tommy Manzo——I wonder why??

  38. November 20, 2013 at 12:03 AM

The Manzos probably taped the event with Robert Irvine for their spinoff:

    Plus Lauren told E! Online:

“Oh, we already have a date,” she reveals. “I’m not going to share the exact date, but it’s in 2015. And the reception will be at the Brownstone. Vito wants to do the ceremony at Fordham Church because that’s where we met, at Fordham College,” the bride-to-be gushes, adding that plans may change, as the date is still over a year away.

So the MANZO clan kissed up to Robert Irvine to get a guest appearance on his show. That family uses people. They are desperate to keep the 15 minutes of fame going. Their pilot will fail. No one cares that Lauren got engaged. She is not likable. She is not a sweet girl she is very angry and nasty. When she called Teresa a dickhead on TV I thought wow get her off the TV why is she even sitting there? I’m sure I wasn’t the only one.

I read that the Giudices will be appearing in court on Nov. 20 for arraignment on the two additional charges against them for money fraud. They should contact Mark Geragos, the attorney for Chris Brown and the late Michael Jackson, for tips on how to act and appear in court (don’t go dressed to the nines!), or watch the E! special, “Secret Societies of Hollywood,” which lists some of the tips he gives his clients.
