Caroline Manzo’s Obsessive Compulsive Personality Disorder

October 5, 2013

“I do think that the Real Housewives show is designed to cause emotional turmoil. I also think that the show creates a high level of stress that can bring any underlying mental issue these women may have to the surface. The show is not a healthy environment for anyone really. Most of these women are focused on the fame and attention they are getting as well as the opportunities to make money from it. It can take a toll on them and their families that may not be worth it but often they lack the self-awareness to realize it. The fact that Dina did really says she has better sense than most.” – angelofdevs, July 19, 2010, A Real Housewife’s View

Caroline Manzo – Obsessive Compulsive Personality Disorder
By angelofdevs, angelofdevs.wordpress.com
July 5, 2010

Once again I am delving into the psychological issues of the Real Housewives of Bravo television. Again I must preface my post with a disclaimer that while I have a legitimate psychology degree, I am not a mental health professional. My conclusions can only be based on what I see and reliable sources, such as direct interview, so take the information with a grain of salt. These posts are intended for entertainment purposes only, if you are not entertained I apologize.

Today I am examining the behavior of Caroline Manzo, one of the stars of The Real Housewives of New Jersey on Bravo.

It is easy to see that Caroline is devoted to her family, extremely devoted. It is also easy to see she has some serious control issues. She also seems to be judgmental, rigid and moralistic. Bear with me here but I see that she is a mother, the head of her family, that is her job and that is her obsession. I think she has Obsessive Compulsive Personality Disorder that centers on that, her utter devotion to and control of her family.

Obsessive Compulsive Personality Disorder is a pervasive character disturbance involving one’s generalized style and beliefs in the way one relates to themselves and the world. Persons with OCPD are typically deeply entrenched in their dysfunctional beliefs and genuinely see their way of functioning as the correct way. They tend to be deeply committed to their own beliefs and patterns, resistant to accepting anyone or anything that does not adhere to this rigidly held belief system. Most often, people with OCPD place blame for their unhappiness on external circumstances, people or their environment but with OCPD it is one’s dysfunctional philosophy which produces anxiety, anguish and frustration.

With Caroline, we see her with her family, always being the authority. Her way is the only way. Her children must pursue goals in her manner. Lauren must take certain beauty classes, Albie must continue with the law regardless of struggle, Christopher will be in the family business, somehow Caroline will make sure these events occur. Supportive? Yes. Also a bit controlling and overly involved in my opinion.

These *children* are all in their twenties and still living at home, throwing ham and living their lives with their parents supervision and guidance. Whenever one of the *kids* deviates from the path that has been set out for them we see Caroline swoop in and play fixer. They are not allowed to fail or learn from their own mistakes, they are lectured and supported to smooth and bolster them to continue on the given path.

s6 66c

Although rarely observed by others, the experience of inner turmoil within this syndrome is immense. As much as others are often victimized by OCPD’s oppressive and demanding style, the high standards often apply two-fold within the OCPD sufferers’ expectations directed toward themselves. It is not uncommon for a person with OCPD to feel deeply entrenched in the belief that they are a *good person*. This belief can paradoxically often lead to feelings of depression and disappointment. The high standards which their idealized self is expected to live up to are often far beyond the capacity for any human being to consistently fulfill. Since ones humanness prevents an OCPD sufferer from living according his own high standards, a tremendous amount of self-hatred is imposed.

Within the OCPD population is a cognitive style characterized by dichotomous thinking. Dichotomous thinking is the tendency to categorize all aspects of life into one of two perspectives, all good or all bad. The world is viewed predominantly through clearly defined black and white realms. All that is pure and wholesome is valued. It can take only one stain or blemish to have the person completely find justification in discarding anything which evidences a flaw.

I think that is really the way Caroline is.

She barely knew Danielle yet finding out she had a tainted past sent Caroline into a tizzy. Immediately she did not want anything to do with Danielle or for Danielle to have anything to do with her family, friends or intimate social circle. She did not give Danielle a chance to explain, judging her without hesitation. When Jacqueline continued to be friends with her, she railed that Danielle was causing a split in her family and that Jac was allowing Danielle to influence everything. To be frank, Caroline’s focus on Danielle is every bit as much to blame for that as Jac’s friendship with Danielle was. It is really out of line to tell other adults who they may or may not associate with. Caroline hammered and hammered away at the situation until she got her way.

For persons with OCPD, facts and confidence are all too often turned into I’m RIGHT and your WRONG. The way I see it represents the way it is, end of story. For others, refusing to yield to the correct perspective often entails encountering tension and discord. This manifestation of OCPD entails one’s adamantly guarding his dogmatic beliefs to such a degree that casual conversation often converts minor disagreements into heated debates. The relative importance of any topic rarely is of consequence in determining the degree of the intensity expressed in the midst of the debate. For the person who experiences OCPD, abstract ideals and moral standards become rigidly held truths.

Caroline is very rigid indeed. She never admits to any mistake in judgement or apologizes for any turmoil she causes those around her. I realize many of you may agree with Caroline and her assessments but whether she is right in her judgements or not is beside the point. The fact remains that she judges people harshly, they are either good or bad and nothing will change that view, she then bullies those in her circle to think exactly as she does.

She is blind to flaws within her family or friends, their bad behavior is always excused or justified.

Ashley can assault Danielle and she is merely defending the family. Christopher can do a stripper car wash and he is an over eager go-getter, wink wink. Teresa can flip a table and pot stir fights and she is only a passionate woman or just being *Teresa*, giggle. Those bad behaviors are merely silly or justified. Point this out to her and if you push her, she will continue to defend their bad behavior. Even if she has to scream, cry and rage at you to do it, her friends and family are never wrong.

s5 131 c

It would not be unusual for an OCPD sufferer to literally take delight in being wronged, since it affords them, what they perceive, as the justified opportunity to deliver a steep punishment. The term righteous indignation was probably conceived with this perspective in mind. Crossing a person with OCPD provides her the license to hold a grudge and forever hold your mistake over your head.

I feel with Danielle, Caroline takes joy in the conflict. She loves blaming everything on her. It gives her someone to make her look better in life. She is clearly superior to this *garbage* in her mind. I fail to see how anyone can see this play of righteousness as being healthy. She likes to play victim, to see her family as innocent and good and Danielle or any of her supporters as all bad.

In a conflict with someone who has OCPD, the non-OCPD person might be motivated to desperately seek closure. In the process of attempting conflict resolution, the non-OCPD might discover that every minute the quagmire becomes deeper and deeper. It is almost as if the mere effort to find resolution is a punishable offense. In a close relationship, encountering this zone of contempt is bewildering and frightening. All one wants to do is to bring this controversy to an end, and then, you are punished for not being willing to deal with the issue at hand. Within this zone, the person with OCPD feels a great need to bring about absolute clarity for the issue to be resolved. Once again this need for the perfect resolution creates a seemingly never ending tweaking of the issues. Agreeing to disagree is rarely a reasonable solution and often not in the scope of the OCPD’s world.

This really is Caroline. She will not let the Danielle thing go. As obsessed as Danielle is with the Manzos, Caroline and her crew are always talking about her. The healthy person would simply move on, refuse to engage. Caroline takes the more passive aggressive approach, pretending to be trying to move on but not really. She stews about it and she also contributes to other’s obsessions such as Teresa and Jacqueline. You can see the smirky glee at every report of Danielle, the I told you so attitude. She then of course says she did not want to talk about her but we all know if Caroline did not want Danielle discussed she would not be, Caroline always controls things.

OCPD sufferer feels that a lack of genuineness is wrong and being totally open, no matter what the consequence, is the only option. If others are offended by what I say, too bad for them. Moral righteousness and preaching morality as a dogmatic necessity is not an uncommon expression of OCPD. Both of these realms are steeped in the potential for the OCPD sufferer’s truth to override consideration and respect.

Caroline has no issues being blunt to the point of being hurtful. I think she broke Jacqueline down with this method. I also saw this in action by Caroline taking Danielle’s book around New Jersey, informing everyone that she knew about Danielle’s transgressions. Not necessary, she had no call to smear anyone whether it was true or not. What kind of person delights in trying to ruin another person’s reputation, particularly one with children who will be hurt by it? Regardless of Danielle’s past it was uncalled for and it was not Caroline’s business to broadcast Danielle’s issues to the world.

Overall I feel that Caroline is ruled by this moral indignation of her form of OCPD. I feel she is blind to the flaws of who she has already deemed as good and worthy individuals. I feel no matter what someone she has deemed as bad or outside of her circle does that they will remain bad and therefore, the enemy. I feel she controls her family and friends and that she always needs to get her way. I also feel she is unforgiving and inflexible to anyone who she feels is not one of *hers*. I feel that she systematically will try to get rid of anyone who might try to *contaminate* her perfect group, her family. The maintenance of this group’s goodness is her job and keeping them on the right path is her only responsibility.

Obsessive Compulsive Personality Disorder is a pervasive pattern of preoccupation with perfectionism, and mental and interpersonal control. This comes at the expense of flexibility, openness, and efficiency. It is present in a variety of contexts as indicated by four (or more) of the following:

  • Is preoccupied with details, rules, lists, order, organization, or schedules to the extent that the major point of the activity is lost
  • Shows perfectionism that interferes with task completion
  • Is excessively devoted to work (in Caroline’s case, family) to the exclusion of leisure activities and friendships
  • Is overconscientious, scrupulous, and inflexible about matters of morality, ethics, or values
  • Is unable to discard worn-out or worthless objects even when they have no sentimental value
  • Is reluctant to delegate tasks or to work with others unless they submit to exactly his or her way of doing things
  • Adopts a miserly spending style toward both self and others; money is viewed as something to be hoarded for future catastrophes.
  • Shows rigidity and stubbornness

We all tend to bond and think alike. 🙂

However, I personally know people like Caroline, can see a little of myself in her with protecting kids, but one thing I am not, is what I also see in her.

I want my kids to be here all the time, but I want them to have wings to know theor roots and not only fly, but soar with their own God given conscience and dreams. I am here to support and catch should they fall.

They will also see a momma doing same thing, but I would never, ever put us in jeopardy. I may say tmi on these blogs, but that is to communicate with friends made off them in a community.

What I read, and have observed with family, friends, social media, have aspects of this.

At end of day, humans just want to be recognized for their intentions and the positive things they contributed for a day, in the day of a lifetime, doing it all day, everyday.

    Caroline Manzo is just gross.

    • October 6, 2013 at 7:48 PM

I agree! I am so sick of her kids being on the show. They are just taking up time. I cannot understand three kids so dependent on their parents. Caroline is a JOKE and that clueless, boring husband of hers is no better.

  4. MeHo
    October 5, 2013 at 4:34 PM

True Kay, I was just kidding with my kid’s lives. They do not listen to me anyway. Most of the time. I do fret over little things when they come over ( in my house: not their apts. ) I would never sell my family for .50 cents!!! Caroline has no life, I don’t know why Bravo keeps pandering/obliging her or her “Fambily” except this sites history does tell us so. There is another site today that gave a great description into how Katfish is the one who is friends with “people to bring Tre and Joe down” I would say the website as long as Fame website would NOT get hurt. I don’t know if Fame can or will let me but it is interesting!

John addressed this today via this tweet:

      John Karagiorgis ‏@JohnnyTheGrk
Just because family members are friends with others, it doesn’t mean you’re friends with them. To know of someone doesn’t mean you know them
      3:32 PM EST – 5 Oct 13

It is odd that John’s niece Marigo, his sister Vasilia Karagiorgis’ daughter, is best friends with Victoria Wakile and refers to Rich and Kathy as her aunt and uncle. If Marigo’s brother George is dating Victoria, then it’s just all too odd and looks like they’re famewhores trying to ride coattails of the Wakiles – it looks like they latched onto them in 2012/2013. And it looks like their mother Vasilia was friends with Teresa in 2012, but that failed when the Giudices suddenly turned on the Greeks in February 2013 (right after the rape tweet from Bulldog), and this is when Teresa started following QoM and when Pete Giudice started tweeting with QoM, well known enemies of the Giudices.

Marigo doesn’t tweet anything to her real Uncle, John, so it looks like there is discord in the family, and it looks like she is out to hurt her Uncle John and Aunt Penny by sucking up to the “enemy”. Knowing that the Wakiles lied to Penny and John, luring them to the Moxie Salon so that they could be ambushed (and taking into consideration the rude things Rich said about Penny), you would think she would disassociate from them, but instead she tweets photos of herself with them, saying “I love you guys,” and calling them aunt and uncle. I wouldn’t want a family member like that! If the Wakiles were off the show and her real aunt and uncle were added, she’d probably be singing a different tune.

Marigo also tweets Lizzie Grubman, who Ashlee interned with, and I’m sure she knows the Lauritas and Manzos and Gorgas too. If you read her twitter feed, she probably tweets all of them except for the Giudices and Karagiorgis.

I’m reminded of a comment by xjrsygrl7733 submitted on 2013/09/21 at 9:51 AM at Fame-Whorgas:

RHONJ has ruined New Jersey & has had a hand in ruining many peoples lives, including people who don’t have anything to do with the show. There are many things going on behind scenes that are so sick that I literally moved to New York because of it all. I lived in Toms River until the end of 2011. That’s when so much started going on around Jersey. It is a complete circus all over the state. You can’t go anywhere with out there being dozens of film crew, photographers & news crew, & there are signings & meet & greets everywhere. I can’t get away from these disgusting people. I am on anxiety meds because of all the trauma this stupid show & the lying pigs cast in it have caused. It has destroyed the lives of so many & the truth will never come out! Unfortunately I am not just a viewer but someone who has had her life uprooted because of Bravo & the Gorgas! Everyone else can just walk away from it all but I can’t! I have to deal with this bull all the time since it personally affects my friends & family. I can’t even visit my home town because of the cameras all over & the whorgas with their minions everywhere! I am an introvert & a Capricorn. I hate attention or people looking at me & would never want to be on camera, but everywhere I go there are Cameras, Manzos, Gorgas, Lauritas & Wakiles! God, I just want this to all stop! The whole show is a joke & has gotten sooo out of control! They need to end the Real Housewives franchise all together. I just want the past three years of Hell to END!!!!

That is what my intution has said on a couple of blogs, including here. No way @dinamanzo would sell her soul and happiness to Bravo. She follows what I do “nice Catholic girl” etc!

I put a bet out on other blog that if Dina is anything but friend, or guest appearance for her God-daughter and Teresa, I will send first one to Scottsdale to a Spa.

I’m crazy like that, but no way will Dina be full time housewife again. She is done with drama, but does love her God-daughter, and family. Maybe she will make guest appearances.

Kathy Wakile Did NOT Bring Johnny Karagiorgis And Penny Drossos On Real Housewives of New Jersey
        Posted on October 6th, 2013
        richard@rumorfix.com

Johnny “The Greek” Karagiorgis and his wife Penny Drossos have been lightening rods on The Real Housewives of New Jersey, so cast members and fans are finger pointing to see who is to blame.

The biggest rumor: Kathy Wakile brought them in because she was a friend of Johnny’s niece, Margio Mihalos.

But Johnny Karagiorgis is going on record with RumorFix. He tells our Mr. Real Housewife exclusively, “This is not true. It’s sad that people fabricate what they assume is the truth. PR is my niece’s job and I respect her for not taking sides. In her business, she needs to be neutral and I understand that, but I’m not friends with all of her friends, as she’s not friends with all of mine.”

He continues, “We might know of each others friends, but that doesn’t mean we’re also friends. I admire my niece and all of the things she has accomplished. She is far beyond her years in the amount she has managed to accomplish so far, but these rumors need to stop. We are not friends with the Wakiles and never were, and they did not bring us on the show.”

There you have it- rumor fixed!

This may be a little off topic but speaks on Caroline’s moral righteousness and people not worthy to be in her or her families circle of friends………I just finished reading the book undercover cop, how I brought down the real-life Sopranos by Mike Russell. It was a good read about mafia take down on so many with the help of undercover work.

Caroline is a big ass fibber when she said her FIL Tiny Manzo was a good man and never a bit of proof he had mafia ties. In chapter 13 starting on page 235 it talks about him and how he was considered the biggest mob enforcer in N.J. He worked under Louis Gatto. Manzo was an enforcer who helped machine gun a mobster’s car when they tried to move in on Gatto’s territory. Russell said they had a sit-down 3 days after the incident and said Tiny needled Joe Zarra incessantly during this meeting and Zarra had to “take it and keep his mouth shut because he knew he was in the wrong for infringing on Gatta’s turf”. Russell said he was surprised when Manzo’s body turned up about 6 months after this meeting and he didn’t wait longer to keep the heat off him BUT, like he said, “these old mobsters never forget a slight”. According to this book and undercover guy, it took the medical examiner 2 days to extricate Tiny from the trunk because he weighed about 400 pounds and in the summer heat the gases expanded his body so bad. They all knew Zarra did it but did not have proof.

After reading this book I would not want my family around the Manzos…… And knowing what I do now and seeing Carohag and the way she acts is almost mafia attitude to me. Her family values and moral ethics are almost laughable to anyone who has seen her and her “thick as thieves” family and read the background on her FIL. The biggest mob enforcer in N.J. and top soldier for a big mob boss like Louis Gatto.

Funny thing you mention this Anon…I was thinking to myself that perhaps the WHOLE entire point in bringing the book in and making such a huge deal out of Danielle’s connection in it was to do exactly what you just said–DISTRACT THE ATTENTION FROM THE TRUTH!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Your post proved my thoughts to be true. And clearly Caro “won” that one bc look at the outcomes (Danielle was bullied and her rep ruined and practically NOBODY knows about Tiny Manzo…)

So Tiny Manzo worked for Louis “Streaky” Gatto, who ran a multimillion dollar gambling empire in New Jersey for the Genovese family, which, according to the Associated Press in 1991, “for decades has been recognized as New Jersey’s most powerful mob group.” When Louis went to prison in 1991, his son Joseph took over (Louis passed away in prison in 2002; Joseph died in 2010). The Genovese family crews in Jersey run some of the largest loan-sharking and bookmaking operations in the New York – New Jersey areas.

      From Reading Eagle, June 1991:

For decades the Genovese crime family has gotten its way in the field of organized crime… but it took a hit when Louis “Streaky” Gatto was convicted of murder, extortion, racketeering and running a gambling empire.

Prosecutors said the sports gambling and numbers rackets took in $420 million a year in bets, and the group kept $43 million in profits, which is more than the No. 2 casino in Atlantic City.

      http://news.google.com/newspapers?nid=1955&dat=19910619&id=6PkhAAAAIBAJ&sjid=9KIFAAAAIBAJ&pg=1370,2513263

From Mafia Today on April 19, 2010:

Genovese crime family capo Joseph “The Eagle” Gatto passed away due to undisclosed causes at the age of 65. Gatto was said to have inherited then New Jersey based Genovese family gambling action once run by his father Louis “Streaky” Gatto. His father was reported to have run a multimillion dollar gambling empire in Jersey for the Genovese family but was convicted in 1991 at which time his son took over his operations.

Streaky Gatto also held the rank of captain in the Genovese family and was said to be a favorite of the late Genovese family boss Vincent Gigante. Streaky Gatto passed away in prison in 2002 after his son Louis Gatto Jr died in 2000 while also in federal prison. In 2003 a Jersey organized crime commission identified Joseph Gatto as a Genovese family captain a leader of one of the five major Genovese family crews operating in New Jersey.

The Genovese crime family has long been operating in Jersey and has been the dominate mafia family operating in Passaic, Hudson, and Bergen counties. The Genovese family crews in Jersey run some of the largest loan-sharking and bookmaking operations in the New York – Jersey area’s.

Just last year Joseph Gatto got a pass when a grand jury declined to indict him in the “Operation Jersey Boyz” case run by the state police. In 2004 Gatto and 43 alleged mobsters were all arrested as part of the gambling and racketeering case. Gatto and other mobsters allegedly ran a vast offshore gambling operation that was run by his Genovese Jersey crew that took in millions of dollars that were shared by members of the Genovese , Gambino, Bonanno, and Lucchese mafia families. Gatto and his crew were accused of running a wire room located in Costa Rica known as Catalina Sports. The operation was reported to have had over 12,000 customers and was bringing in approx $300,000 a week for the mafia.

It is not yet known who is set to replace the long time Jersey capo but the Genovese family will keep it business as usual as they morn the loss of one of their own.

      http://mafiatoday.com/genovese-family/genovese-nj-capo-joseph-gatto-dies/

Gatto was sentenced to 65 years in prison June 1991 for racketeering and murder conspiracy. At the time, Louis “Streaky” Gatto, a captain in the North Jersey Genovese family, was said to be a favorite of imprisoned Genovese boss Vincent “Chin” Gigante. “Streaky” Gatto died in prison in 2002, after a battle with prostate cancer.

At a New Jersey Commission of Investigation hearing in 2003 on organized crime in the state, Joseph Gatto was identified as a capo, or crew leader, of one of five main Genovese crews in New Jersey.

The Genovese family has long been the dominant crime family in Bergen, Passaic and Hudson counties, running the largest bookmaking and loan-sharking rings in the New York-New Jersey metropolitan area.

      http://af11.wordpress.com/2010/04/16/joseph-the-eagle-gatto-reputed-captain-in-genovese-crime-family-dies/

On the Mafia Today website, they also have stories about Ronald and Louis Manzo (who are brothers) and South Philadelphia bookmaker Vincent Manzo. They’re probably related to Al.

Knowing Al’s mob ties gives new meaning to what Caroline uttered under her breath at Joe Giudice, “My husband will destroy you” (she said this after Juicy basically told her to shutup and leave his wife alone as she berated Teresa in Napa in September 2012). And it could explain why Andy said to Caroline at the reunion 5, “Sometimes you scare me” (see charok’s comment below).

Fame ….I love this. In undercover cop, Russell said they called Vincent Gigante “chin” because they were not allowed to say his name…just point to your chin. They all have stories behind these names. When his wife was asking about names that were signed on his “fake” cast…….

Vinny Gorgeous…..A guy who owns a beauty shop with his sisters
Louie the theif….A guy who wants to be a Lawyer

It makes me wonder what the Zarra mob thinks about Caro being on RHONJ? I always thought that the Al and Caro Manzo marriage seemed like a “mobster” marriage. Al has a mistress and a wife whose aware of his infidelity. If she did divorce Al the other mobster’s might be worried about the secrets she knows? I wonder what the other mobster’s think about Al’s kids? Especially, his foul acing daughter? Hmmmm….I might read that book even though the last mob book I read gave me nightmare’s! c

I’ll preface my comments by stating that I’m not a psychologist, and I don’t play one on TV (like Caroline).

While this description does sound like Caroline, I hestitate to try to find a clinical diagnosis to explain her behavior. I think this is a part of the reason we find our culture in the sorry state that it is. I’m in my mid 40’s, and I remember a time when we would have just said that Caroline is an asshole. No doctors, no medication, no clinical diagnosis…she’s just an asshole.

Sometimes it’s hard to accept that some people are just bad people. I don’t mean to disparage or devalue the work of studying human behavior. It’s wonderful that we are making an effort to discuss issues like depression and mental illness – for too long the stimga attached to it prevented many people from seeking help. But along the way, we began to explain away simple bad behavior as “disorders” – thus removing accountability out of the equation.

I guarantee that if you read the descriptions of most mental disorders, you would find some of your own behaviors within. I remember in college I took a class in Abnormal Psychology. One week into the class I diagnosed myself with 2 or 3 disorders! The range of “normal” human behavior is wide, and many people fall on the shadier side of the spectrum.

I’ve also indulged in diagnosing these people myself – for example, I do think that Melissa’s lying is pathological – but lately I’ve accepted that they are just bad people.

Dr. LIG’s official diagnosis is that Caroline is an asshole and Melissa is a lying skank.

      That is so true, LIG!!!

My niece got her degree in psychology and she did the same thing when she first started – she kept running to me (I’m her godmother and she doesn’t have a great relationship with her mother) about it and drove me batty!! She finally realized what she was doing and was okay after that!!! It’s funny now but then – not so much!!!

As Fame said upthread, we ALL are a little “off” in one way or another. There is no such thing as the “perfect” person and wouldn’t the world be boring if there was?!

And while there are those who are so flawed to the point it can be dangerous to be around them, in general (I know this may sound wierd) I like the idea that we, as humans, are all imperfect and are able to bring our own uniqueness to the table – our goodness, our strengths and weaknesses, our warts and all!!

      and see the line –

Caroline quickly squashes the fan’s words by saying to Andy, “Do I strike you, Andy, as the person that would allow someone to abuse me or speak to me in a way that is demeaning?”

“No,” Andy quickly replies. “Sometimes you scare me.”

ok so andy admit hes scared of her. ok. no surprise there. but why? if not just her ( which see above pic of her flipping the bird) only other reason i can remotely fathom is either her supposed ties to the mob/tiny manzo????? or does andy have a crush on either albie or chris ( as mentioned in a few posts ago/few weeks???)

Spaghetti Kitten, please rent Godfather I and pay close attention to the parts where Herman Woltz, the big shot Hollywood producer is intimidated by Tom Hayden, Don Corleone’s attorney. Woltz ends up giving the Don’s godson the part in the movie out of fear for his life. I think it’s life imitating art. Al could be a cheater and it’s never a storyline. Caroline treated both Danielle, Teresa and Gia horribly and she is never asked to apologize. The Manzo kids were rude to both Danielle and Teresa and no one is ever called out. I also don’t understand why her family always gets the good edit and Andy fawning all over them.

      • October 5, 2013 at 9:57 PM

I do think Andy has a crush on Albie and they use that to their advantage.

“If the spin-off show were to happen, Chris and Albie thought of beginning with a Watch What Happens showing in Hoboken, N.J.

“Maybe we can get Andy [Cohen] here,” Albie said. “If we’re talking Bravo shows, let’s start there.”

          • October 6, 2013 at 9:20 AM

From what I gather from the rumors, Jaq got a pink slip. I believe this for many reasons. I think Kathy would have been fired also, but Bravo wants Rosie, so Kathy got demoted to friendship. I believe this because they made the Juicy and Rosie clips and people loved it. Bravo went from covering up things for TSIL to revealing things about her.

Bravo did not edit what Wyatt Webb said about TSIL and you have to wonder why. She down graded to a rental for a reason. Bravo could have easily invested in maintaining their “mansion”, they knowingly threw money down the drain for her music and a book.

I think it is possible that Danielle, Dina, and Teresa obtained Bravo contracts that give them some control over what is being filmed. If filming starts in December and the trial begins in February, Dina can be there to support Teresa. Teresa’s MIL and her mother have been filmed and I do see Bravo continuing to film them and Teresa’s children no matter what happens with Teresa and Joe.

Danielle may make an appearance if there is something she can reveal about TSIL that has not already been shown. If TB and TSIL were not related to Teresa, I think they would have been gone as well, but Milania is a delight interacting with her cousins. People will want to see more of this. Bravo will want to milk everything they can from what is going on in Teresa’s life.

Sean Avery and Albie Manzo look alike. Albie has complications. Caroline’s favorite, Christopher, ( because he worships his mamma ), keeps an eye out on what is going on in his siblings world and most likely reports back to mamma.

I think she has a superiority complex . She has an exaggerated idea of what she is about as well as her children. She talks about herself in third person. Her offspring are “children of privilege” . Her family is “extraordinarily close” or her favorite “thick as thieves”

    1. She exhibits an intense reaction to anything that is perceived as an insult. (Teresa’s book comments)

    2. She flatters those who give her admiral acknowledgment, but despises anyone who does not display admiration.

    3. She claims to be an expert in a number of areas ( ie advice, business ideas) and pretends to be more than he or she is.

Mobsters are notorious for having mistresses, and the wives are notorious for tolerating it, like Caroline Manzo tolerates Al’s long-time girlfriend Jill:

The Italian-American community in New York has tended to stick together.

‘Most of the Italian guys want Italian women. The girls who aren’t Italian are usually…’ Graziano cups her hand over her mouth and stage-whispers, ‘the girlfriends.’

Ah, yes. The mafiosi’s notoriously relaxed concept of fidelity.

‘What was the toast? “To our wives and sweethearts!”’ says Reppetto, an Italian American whose own father ‘was not on this side of the law’.

Is cheating still so pervasive? Graziano nods.

‘They usually have a mistress and a girlfriend,’ adds her cousin. Mob wives are ‘more tolerant’ of affairs, says Graziano. Do the men tolerate the women’s affairs, too? ‘Oh, no! Are you crazy?’

Jeannie, are you going to watch Once Upon a Time Wonderland on Thursdays? I’m going to!

PS … no clue who shot Emily, will have to rewatch tomorrow before the new ep, always do as it’s like putting together a puzzle.

I definitely will be watching Thursday. It’s on right before Grey’s, which I also watch. These writers/producers are so imaginative and creative so I can’t wait to see what they do. I wonder if the Mad Hatter (can’t remember his Storybrooke name – Jackson?) will show up!

      • October 6, 2013 at 4:24 PM

It’s the same universe, right? I would imagine he has to be the Mad Hatter there too. He’s cute.

These people are crazy. Surprised that Bravo, and Andy Cohen are proud of what they produced. Isn’t Ryan Seacrest involved in producing these Housewife Shows? Capitalizing on individuals and mostly there problems. You would think they would want to me remember by something other then “reality TV”. Really.

  23. October 6, 2013 at 9:43 AM

I think that the psychiatric disorder fits her to a tee. Not to be confused with OCD, of course.

    • October 6, 2013 at 5:50 PM

Exactly – if the shoe fits… I don’t believe that because she exhibits these traits it means she’s not an asshole. She doesn’t get off that easily… no one does.

There’s something to the concept that people fit into certain categories, exhibit certain exact behaviors. For instance, criminal profilers can be extremely accurate in predicting the characteristics of an unknown criminal. Sometimes as extreme as being able to state what the person was wearing when he/she committed the crime! It’s crazy! Of course it doesn’t mean that the person is not responsible for the crime(s) they committed.

Anyway, this hit me as soon as I read it:

“It would not be unusual for an OCPD sufferer to literally take delight in being wronged, since it affords them, what they perceive, as the justified opportunity to deliver a steep punishment. The term righteous indignation was probably conceived with this perspective in mind. Crossing a person with OCPD provides her the license to hold a grudge and forever hold your mistake over your head.”

This would explain why Teresa went from Caroline’s “friend” to foe. Not only did Teresa get the book deal that Caroline did not, but Teresa ignored Caroline’s suggestions and ideas for her book. To Caroline, it was a slap in the face to say the least. After all, Caroline is the ultimate authority on anything and everything. This also was an opportunity that should have been hers and Teresa stole it from her… in her mind.

So… Teresa crossed Caroline and now Caroline is justified in never having to forgive or forget. Even after Teresa apologized numerous times, none were sincere enough for Caroline. Maybe the reason the apologies seemed insincere to Caroline is because Teresa didn’t feel like she did anything wrong… because she DIDN’T. However, I think Teresa was sincerely sorry that Caroline was hurt by it, but that wasn’t Teresa’s intent… and Teresa knew Caroline was well aware of this. OCPD or no OCPD this makes Caroline an asshole.

Caroline used the excuse that she was upset about the comments regarding the Olive Garden, that she was only 15% Italian, or whatever it was, which really bugged me because Caroline was well aware of the story behind those comments and knew they weren’t meant as insults or backhanded remarks. Also, Caroline being the mother bear she is… how DARE Teresa say ANYTHING BAD about her Christopher!! Again, why be upset about something she claimed to be proud of because it showed how much drive and determination Christopher had… unless there was indeed an underlying embarrassment about her darling son’s dream? Simply put… how was it bad? Caroline asserted it wasn’t.

There’s a lot here that undeniably falls directly in line with this disorder, aside from that which I quoted above. It really does fit Caroline to a T. It is what it is. I don’t think it takes away from the fact that Caroline and Caroline only is responsible for how she acts any less than an alcoholic, alcoholism being an illness, is responsible for their actions.

    October 6, 2013 at 10:01 AM

    1) No offense to anyone, but I cant stand looking at stubby nails.
    2) The way Caroline treated Danielle was VERY immature.
    3) I don’t think Caroline raised her children poorly. I know what it is to not be equipped for the real world because my parents spoiled me, especially in young adulthood. I still think the kids are young and there’s nothing wrong with backing your kids’ ventures with start-up capital if one can do that. I know not everyone is even saying that, but Ive read a lot of criticism like that.
    4) I really wanna go on, but Im on my phone and wearing press-ons.

Any parent can only do so much, what with the poisonous food supply and the mind controlling aspects of education and the media. I don’t blame the kids negative aspects on their parents, just as I would not blame my negative aspects on my parents. At a certain age, you have to take personal responsibility for what you have become – and her kids are far past that point.

      • October 6, 2013 at 4:26 PM

Thank you for mentioning the food! I honestly think there are growth hormones or something in what kids get nowadays. They’re all gigantic! In height and width. One of the girls my cousin went to high school with was about 6’3″ at age 15. That’s just not normal.

If we are going to think about the mob influence on Bravo. Let’s look at Victoria Gotti, daughter of Gambino mob boss John Gotti verses the daughter in law of Tiny Manzo. Did Caroline want to be on the Celebrity Apprentice show? Bravo has to give a greenlight for appearances on other programs right?

Victoria Gotti was cast on Celebrity Apprentice, the same time as Teresa. I do think the plan was for Teresa to flip out on Victoria. Media was expecting a blow up between to strong Itallian women. Some articles even made the comment ” Hope Teresa doesn’t end up with the same fate as “Tiny” Manzo. Just Sayin” Well, we all know how that turned out, no blow out, instead they became friends.

Victoria was at one of Teresa’s book signings. When Teresa tweeted a pic having dinner with her friend Victoria Gotti. SH reported Victoria tweeting about Caroline and Lisa Lampanelli tag teaming against Teresa like children. You can tell what Victoria Gotti thinks of Caroline Manzo.

Teresa had lunch with Victoria Gotti before confronting Penny at the Poshce event. I think Victoria respects and understands Teresa and cares what happens to the children. “I would lie awake nights and cry. ‘Is my dad gonna come home? Is he gonna go to jail again? … Is he going to get hurt? Is he gonna get killed?’ ” – Victoria Gotti

Albert Tiny Manzo was a Gambino crime family member who was executed mob-style whether Caroline wants to admit it or not. He was caught skimming from a casino owned by the Gambino crime family.

After the scene on Jaq deck, Greg Bennett called Caroline Scaroline Manzo. Teresa said she was not scared of Caroline Manzo. Maybe Andy is afraid of Caroline the same way Greg is. Stalking controling mother who sneaks up on ya lol

Ok the Thunder from Down Under (aka the Aussie) has been a week behind all season. I just watched the finale and I gotta say I’m probably more confused and underwhelmed than I have been watching ANY other episode.

So let me get this straight. Penny and the Greek came out and blamed Teresa for everything and are now blaming it on editing when we know their connection to Melissa is stronger than any connection to Teresa because of salon history. And everyone’s angry about the whole not going to hospital to see Mr Gorga when the Gorgas outted THEMSELVES on twitter.

Joe Gorga who denied so many rumours confirmed them all by saying if they know all this, it must come from Teresa, reading between the lines as Jac insists we do. Hello, it’s called the World Wide Web – and we have friends in interesting place – see below.

Caroline, who wanted nothing to do with Teresa is now saying that that you never cut ties, behaving like she put Humpty Dumpty back together again. Oh and PS, does have mob ties and police ties in a previously corrupt government AND has threatened to take the Giudices down. (Insert shot of smoking gun).

Jac who said she wanted nothing to do with Teresa is relieved that Teresa “lies” have been exposed, ummm Mrs I say things when I’m angry and am compulsive on twitter but that just who I am *giggle giggle?

And Missy, well she feels vindicated but is so gracious and never says a word about anyone because she’s good like that, can move on from it all.

Teresa – honestly, for 90% of the series, was just nodding her head.

She told them the only thing she is guilty of is enjoying hearing bad shit about Missy and I have to say, I don’t blame her. She reiterated that she was not behind any setup and yet, they are all hearing that she has admitted to everything they accused her of…. Missy, how was Wendy Williams? Did that feel good?

So into this mix, we now know that Ashley/Ashlee/Ashleigh has been working for US Weekly, as a blogger – not on the front lines but certainly close enough to spill some beans. How does a kid with no credentials get a gig like that? Because she looks pretty? Further more we’ve discovered that the Wakilies have adopted The Greeks’ niece (a booker for Magazine TV aka talk shows) and nephew but says she doesn’t know them. “Who are these people?” Kinda makes you wonder who is the smiling assassin doesn’t it? It was the Professor in the library with the candle stick.

SO recap. Melissa & Joe, Kathy & Richie get a spot on RHONJ by promising to take Teresa down. Missy talks to Danielle Staub spilling little details of their relationship. Meanwhile, the “family” is breaking bread with the accountant and lawyer who have had a hand in bringing Teresa’s financial situation to the attention of the government and getting angry at the Greeks trying to gain a spot on the show using the Gorga Method (aka bringing the gossip).

Melissa & Joe have gone on international television telling the world that Joe cheats (bus ride – did you think that would hit the cutting room floor Joe “I never said a word to anyone about your husband cheating” Gorga? Calling his sister all manner of derogatory words, denying he put their parents in financial distress, airing family laundry for all and sundry to see, putting his nieces through hell – saying Teresa is a bad mother for talking in front of her kids, whilst talking in front of his kids. Telling the universe that her husband’s a bum, scum, beneath him, allowing Wackjob Wakilie carte blanche to say ANYTHING (LETS BURN THE BITCH) And yet Teresa is a terrible sister because she listened to other people say bad things about Melissa and kinda liked it?

Let’s talk about Kathy for a moment. From the time she came onto our screens, it was a subtle bash. When we first meet her, she’s telling Teresa what a bad parent she is…. that she’s a recipe thief, that she has low comprehension skills, that her parents are fucking liars and cowards all the while standing by and allowing Icky Ritchie to say the most vile things about her blood, serving her purpose as the confirmer ie the person who validates the Gorgas claims. Yes, Teresa is a bad person for feeling good about hearing negative information about Melissa.

How did Teresa’s financial issues come to light? Melissa, feeling good about talking to Danielle.

All the things they blame Teresa for, the cheating, the stripping came to light on the blogs when Missy hit the stage. One of the perks of infamy. Missy, let’s not forget, was busy working the blogs before she got the Golden Hand Shake to embarrass her husband’s family on international TV.

So, I’m confused. Because Teresa nodded her head silently, and said I’m sorry for listening when I shouldn’t have ( it was obviously Melissa and Kathy’s evil twins at the Fashion Show with Kim D and Monica) then we have resolution?

Can I just suggest, ever so subtly, Melissa, had you not tried to usurp your sister inlaw, coveting her fame and earnings, none of this would have happened.

It all comes back to five simple words: YOU CAME ON THE SHOW.

      Love, love your post.

Confused and underwhelmed describes exactly how I felt after watching Seasons 3, 4 and part of 5, not to mention I believe, I lost a few IQ points in the process. I am regaining those lost points slowly and will be made whole again.

My once “guilty pleasure” of a peek into the lives of the rich and fun loving, turned into a really dark place.

The good news? This blog has turned into my new “pleasure”. When Fame went MIA a couple of weeks ago, I totally panicked. I could not believe I would lose touch with Fame and so many of the people I call my friends.

Life happened to me this past week. The good Lord willing, I am back.

      • October 6, 2013 at 7:02 PM

Glad to here you’re back. Hope life wasn’t too unkind.

I know what you mean about when Fame went MIA. I went searching the other blogs to see if anyone mentioned what happened.

    • October 6, 2013 at 6:36 PM

There really is nothing left to say – excellent analysis Sackem!!

    • October 6, 2013 at 6:48 PM

Sackem… you summed it up PERFECTLY… which is why I stopped watching. It’s way to twisted and sick and MAKES ME WANT TO RIP MY HAIR OUT!

I just can’t anymore… I haven’t watched since the fight where Joey lost his hat. I was thinking about watching the reunion, but I saw a preview of Caroline asking Teresa how she could have lied to her and Teresa said “I was upset.” Then Caroline, with that sour puss says… “bad idea.” If that’s what they chose as the preview… See? Teresa’s a liar! Seriously Andy? Bravo? I’m done. I read that it was the lowest rated finale in all the seasons and I’m very glad to hear that.

New Jersey is like the Twilight Zone. Or like one of those “fun” houses (I never knew why they were called “fun”) with all the wacky, skewed mirrors. Rooms that were upside down. Boards that when you walked on them they tilted and swayed. Mazes with mirrors and glass. Up is down and down is up.

This is the only blog I’ll read about NJ AND the comments when I get the chance. If I do see something about NJ on another blog, I won’t read the comments. I like Teresa but it doesn’t bother me so much if someone doesn’t… as long as it doesn’t have anything to do with “the way she treats TSIL,” etc.

I’m a very open minded person. I’m open to other opinions… sometimes they’ll even change my mind. But I have no clue how anyone can stomach TSIL and TB much less like… or *shivers* lll lll llll o ve them!?!?!? (it’s hard for me to even write that). I have a friend who I know watches NJ. I’m certain she doesn’t read the blogs, etc. I have never talked to her about it. I won’t bring it up and if I feel she might I’ll start talking about something else. I just don’t want to get into it if she tells me she likes you-know-who.

I did enjoy looking at the Amazon site. Soooo many one star ratings!! LOVE IT!! 1.8 stars. It doesn’t even deserve that much and wouldn’t have that much if it weren’t for her sisters and people they pay off. I read the best article in Reader’s Digest… the timing of it tells me the universe doesn’t like TSIL either. I’m going to type it out and post it here. I may just post it on Amazon too.

Hope all is well with everyone here. We just found out my dog has lung cancer. They give her 2-4 weeks. I’m trying just to enjoy the time I have left with her and not think about… when. (((all)))

    Reader’s Digest October 2013
    Dear Little One
    A Letter to my Daughter
    by Dr. Kelly Flanagan

    Dear Little One,

Recently, your mother and I were searching the Internet, and Google returned a list of the most popular searches in the world. Perched at the top was “How to keep him interested.”

It startled me. I scanned several of the countless articles about how to be sexy, when to bring him a beer versus a sandwich, and ways to make him feel smart and superior.

    And I got angry.

Little One, it is not, has never been, and never will be your job to “keep him interested.”

Little One, your only task is to know deeply in your soul – in the unshakable place that isn’t rattled by rejection and loss and ego – that you are worthy of interest. (If you can remember that everyone else is worthy of interest also, the battle of your life will be mostly won. But that is a letter for another day.)

If you can trust your worth in this way, you will be attractive in the most important sense of the word: You will attract a boy who is both capable of interest and who wants to spend his one life investing all his interest in you.

Little One, I want to tell you about the boy who doesn’t need to be kept interested, because he knows you are interesting:

I don’t care if he puts his elbows on the dinner table – as long as he puts his eyes on the way your nose scrunches when you smile. And then can’t stop looking.

I don’t care if he can’t play a bit of golf with me – as long as he can play with the children you give him and revel in all the glorious and frustrating ways they are just like you.

I couldn’t care less how he votes – as long as he wakes up every morning and daily elects you to a place of honor in your home and a place of reverence in his heart.

In the end, Little One, if you stumble across a man like that, and he and I have nothing else in common, we will have the most important thing in common: you.

    Your eternally interested guy,
    Daddy

This is written well and explains a lot. I’ve always been a little amazed at how, from the beginning, Caroline seemed to “own” this show. Noone from outside of her family was allowed “in”, unless somehow already connected for a long time, or having to prove themselves (like the Guidices and Gorgas). I know people like this in my own life but found it a little strange on a national/worldwide TV show that this was playing out. So disfunctional. It really isn’t like any of the other “Real Housewives because it’s a show about the Manzo’s.
