Bravo Tells Striking ‘Real Housewives of New York’ Cast to Stand Down or You’re Fired (Updated 5/13/2013)

May 11, 2013

s5 93
UPDATE May 13, 2013: The battle in the Big Apple is over! The women were bitterly fighting all the way to the end, and they still didn’t really get what they wanted. “These ladies were really trying to get more money out of Bravo but they were desperate to stay on the show,” a source close to the situation explained. “No one wanted to leave and they felt like they were strong-armed by Bravo. The Housewives really thought if they all stuck together they would get a huge bump in their salaries, but it didn’t work and instead they were told to either take the small increase or leave the show, and leaving wasn’t an option.” Aviva was one of the lucky women, getting a bump from $60,000 to $100,000, but the source said all of the women had all hoped for larger increases. “It costs a lot of money to keep up the lifestyle that the show wants these women to portray and they tried to get Bravo to up their salaries, but when they tried to play tough the network had more leverage in the end.” Now that the Housewives have new contracts, they’re going to have to really step up their game the source said. “The women have to do more than just throw wine at each other, there has to be some excitement in the season or else the network might just get rid of them once and for all.” [RadarOnline, May 13, 2013]

TheWrap reported on May 11, 2013, that Bravo told striking ‘Real Housewives of New York’ cast to stand down or you’re fired. The following is their story:

Negotiations between Bravo and the cast of “The Real Housewives of New York” for Season 6 are at a standstill. The women have delayed production by banding together in “Friends-Style” negotiations for higher paychecks.

But, Bravo isn’t about to be manipulated by the striking cast members.

And contrary to other reports, it never considered canceling the series over the salary standoff, individuals close to the production told TheWrap. The network is determined to call the women’s bluff and not give in to their demands.

“They’re getting greedy and feeling entitled,” one insider said about firing the entire cast if they don’t stand down. “They are all replaceable.”

The four women (Ramona Singer, Heather Thomson, Carole Radziwill and Aviva Drescher) who received offer letters had already been given raises over last season’s salaries, which have been reported to range from $175,000 to $500,000 a season.

Additionally, the women are able to augment their salaries by marketing their other business ventures and products on the show. So, the network has no intention of giving them any more money.

Clearly, the women banding together is the worst case scenario, especially since it has delayed the start of production this week. But, Bravo won’t allow the alliance to win and risk having the casts of its other series doing the same type of group negotiation.

Bravo has at least three possible replacements waiting in the wings in case negotiations didn’t go well with any of last season’s cast members. And the network has no doubt that it could find more New York City ladies to fill the other roles.

It should also be noted that the aforementioned four housewives were the only cast members officially invited back. That means that Sonja Morgan and LuAnn DeLesseps have very little bargaining leverage.

Providing further perspective on the negotiations, a former New York cast member told TheWrap:

“No woman really leaves ‘Real Housewives’ by choice.”

The cast members have too much to lose when they’re no longer able to leverage their exposure for promoting their products, getting media attention for their charities, etc.

Moving on with a totally different cast does have its risks. After replacing four women on Season 5, the season became the series second-lowest rated of its run. So, of course, there’s some worry inside the company over whether ratings will suffer if it replaces the entire cast.

The insiders told us that the network is willing to take the risk of totally recasting “RHONY” to make sure that it sends a strong message to the casts of its other shows.

I’d like to see them keep Carole and Aviva and let the rest go. They need a better class of Housewife to keep it interesting.

I thought they all( from NYC) have money, status, etc. thats why they were chosen to be on the show. So Carole you need Bravo to help you pay your bills? Really??

I could see the vetran castmembers getting more money actually all of them from all the franchises, but the newbies, im my opinion shouldn’t get paid as much.

      May 11, 2013 at 7:56 AM

I do agree with Bravo they are given exposure to make even more money. This has worked for several of them. Take advantage of this oppurtunity, if you don’t shame on you.

And didn’t Carole’s book sales jump after the exposure last season?

Seriously, if the cast members are being so problematic, get rid of all of them and find a new cache. NYC has no shortage of women who crave reality TV fame, and no shame in amping up the histrionics and characterizations required for this series.

Teresa mention last night that Gabriella had her 1st communion today and now Melisa mention today Antonia does. I think Melissa is lying and that was from some other time, Idk might be wrong. Gabriella is Melissa Godchild so wouldn’t she need to be at Gabriella. Yes Holy I have seen the photo but something about it doesn’t seem right.

      • holy cannoli
        May 11, 2013 at 1:31 PM

I think the photo is beautiful and the dress is gorgeous. I think she might have had the photo taken before her first Communion, it is a proffesional photo. Probably so it can be displayed at the party.
I do think the girls are making their Communions on the same day I do not think Messy is lying why would she? Come On.
Lots of Parrishes have Communions the same day. I wonder if the Guidices and Gorga belong to the same Parrish.

No the Godparents do not have to be at their Godchildrens Communion, it would be nice, and usually they are but not necessary . In this case if they do not belong to the same Parrish, it’s sad that Messy will not see Gab. make her Communion, but she needs to be with her daughter.

      • Jeannie5233
        May 11, 2013 at 2:39 PM

Melissa did have Antonia sit for a formal portrait. She tweeted about a few weeks ago and, of course, gave a shoutout to the photographer – the same one who took the beautiful photo of Antonia with the fairy wings that Bravo has posted.

Also, Antonia is making her First Communion today because her Aunt Lysa tweeted about shopping for a dress for the occasion.

Wouldn’t it have been wonderful for the girls to have a joint celebration – together?! But I don’t see how that could happen. While there is a common denominator with the Gorgas – I don’t see the Giudice side and the Marco side getting along – at all.

Why are you worried about Gabriella?

I saw that Caroline tweeted that she was going to the Browstone for Antonias Party, did Albie tweet that he was going to Antonias party also? Good for them, whatever.

I really do not get why you don’t trust Messy about her daughters Communion. The girls just happen to have made their Communions on the same day.

Any religious activities with a child I would keep the Gorga and Melissa clan as far away as possible, saw how they behaved at the christen of their own son. Teresa has class and wanted nothing like that to happen involving her children. Good job Teresa

    • May 11, 2013 at 5:02 PM

I think dress is stunning and she is adorable! Do most people on the east coast go over the top like that for a communion? I know in AZ things are just quite a bit more casual.

      • Jeannie5233
        May 11, 2013 at 6:11 PM

My grandson just made his First Communion two weeks ago. My daughter lives in one of the most affluent communities on the gold coast of Fairfield County, CT. This is the area of the country where Tommy Hilfiger, Kathy Lee Gifford, Martha Stewart, Michael Douglas/Katherine Zeta-Jones, Harvey Weinstein, Marlo Thomas/Phil Donohue, Harry Connick, Jr., Michael Bolton, and a multitude of corporate CEOs and Wall Street honchos live. These people have more money than the combined total of salaries for all the ladies of RHONJ and then some. It was a rather large group of First Communicants and NONE of the little girls were dressed to this excess.

Antonia’s dress IS stunning and no question she looks beautiful – a little angel. Do I think it is completely over the top and ostentatious – absolutely.

Little Nikkis and Melissa have been tweeting and posting on Facebook all about Antonia’s dress, headpiece and veil since late December giving updates as late as April 27th when Antonia had her last fitting. The entire outfit was custom and Little Nikkis will be adding it to their collection for next year.

        Little Nikkis ‏@Little_Nikkis 7h
@melissagorga Antonia looks absolutely gorgeous! We loved creating and designing your custom Elena do Vale dress!! Have the best day ever!

I had married into a East Coast Italian family and they never took things that far, not even close. Actually, I’ve never been to any that have been over-the-top. Everyone’s different I guess.

Seriously whats the big deal? Antonia has a custom Communion dress, sooo? Maybe she didn’t like what the stores had, and wanted something special for her only girl?

Maybe Gabriella has a custom Communion dress also, maybe Gia had one.

I think it’s all being blown out of proportion. Antonia and Gabriella both look very pretty. It’s just a dress. Some people like it,some don’t. Everyone has an opinion and is entitled to one. It’s just a dress.

“Paid” is right. They were comp’ed on the dress and the use of the Manor (same place used for the famous Christening) just for giving them the publicity through tweets and getting on the show.

              • Jeannie5233
                May 12, 2013 at 9:32 AM

holy – it really isn’t that big of a deal, and sure, if you can truly afford it and you want to be extravagant and over the top, go for it.

But can Melissa really afford all this or is it just part of the fairy tale persona she wants to put out there? The kind of money that would ordinarily be spent on an occasion such as the one Melissa has given is equivalent to a wedding. Here on the East coast, it is extremely expensive to have a party of this magnitude. You could put a down payment on a house for this kind of money. It’s great she gets to do all this either for free or at price reductions in exchange for tweets and publiicity. To me, in my opinion, this is all attention-getting.

We all know the Gorgas are having financial difficulties. It’s just not fiscally responsible. And I feel the same way about Teresa. Having the kind of money we are supposed to believe these people have, I wonder if these parents have put money aside for their children to take care of them or for their future education in the event something happens to them. Wonderful if they have – highly doubtful though.

I live on the eastcoast Jeannie, I am well aware of how much these things cost. I’m also Italian and in my family this is what we do , we go all out for our children. So get the Gorgas and Guidices. I am not gonna hate on them going all out for their children.

I am not going to speculate on what they have done for their childrens education, etc. It really is none of my business. I can only hope they are doing the right thing, but really like I said it none of my business.

I didn’t know you were on the East Coast holy! For some reason, I got the impression you were in the Mid-West – LOL!! I am well aware of the Italian traditions and going “all out” as I grew up in a mostly Italian/Irish community on Long Island and I married into a very traditional, large Italian family – I love and respect the culture very much. In fact, my mom used to kid me saying I was born into the wrong family. I lived in NJ and my daughter, who married into an Italian family as well, had her reception at a lovely place in West Orange. We had looked at the Brownstone, which was very nice but we were concerned about location.

I can only hope they are doing the right thing by their children as well.

Things are a little less formal here in south Louisiana. As I mentioned before, we do not have DJ’s and the celebration after is more child friendly. I am certain it is only a matter of time before the DJ’s arrive and things become over the top here. I hope not though. I get so much enjoyment from watching the children play.

I may purchase the sauce and noodles, just to try for a special meal. When I went grocery shopping this morning the sauce was only $2 more and the pasta $1 more than what I normally purchase. It is all a bit high in price. The olive oil was spot on to what I normally pay.

I just don’t purchase food online for whatever reason. I didn’t think the pasta and olive oil seemed very expensive, but who am I kidding…my hubby is the grocery shopper in this family so I should have zero input in this conversation!! Sometimes I just type to hear myself talk, hee hee.

        • May 11, 2013 at 11:58 PM

I do on rare occasions … Fairytale Brownies, Garretz Popcorn and Hickory Farms, but I don’t purchase normal foods on-line.

I’m with you Princess, my hubby does all of the grocery shopping and he’s pretty cheap. I was pretty surprised that he doesn’t balk at the San Marzano tomato sauce and diced tomatoes (imported) when we use it to make our sauce.

Thanks Celi, but alas no they were shocked that I didn’t get my crock-pot. They said mom, where’s your crock-pot and I said well did you buy it? They looked at each other and said but mom you always buy what you want. This is true but giving the store(s) brand name, make and model should have been their clue, but they are either dense or I spoil them. So now I will going to buy my crock pot — LOL.

Carowhine’s book just came out for sale last of this past March. It is tanking and she may be the first HW to NOT make the NewYorkTimes Best Seller’s List. Her horrid disposition cannot be remedied no matter how fake she tries to be nice or whatever – no rehabilitation can fix mean and hateful like her. Sure hope Andy gets the message – his love affair with her and her baby adults is just too sickening. The newyork crew needs to be recast – as they all do – they have all become a boring replay of predictable storylines of hate and for NewJersy – violence. New Jersey is pure trash and ridiculous.

Princess Vodka, I adore you and think I might have to adopt you as long as your mother does not mind! Happy Mothers Day to you as well. I agree with you about NY. Fire them all and start over. I get so bored with NY. NY is gorgeous and exciting so why does this show make me yawn? I want spice, shopping, a neighborhood feel, museums, Broadway Shows, The Met Ball, the ballet, the opera, small out of the way places to eat , to shop. Stop giving me whitebread, faux noveau riche . We all know the truly old money with connections would never film so let us see Brooklyn and the Bronx.

Awww…how sweet of you! Fair warning, though, I’m a handful, a bit of a hot mess at times, and just a tad too old to be adopted!

NY… I think Carole probably has a very interesting life but I don’t think this is the show for her. Ramona and LuAnn drive me nuts. I’d have a few cocktails and end up knocking Ramona clear into next year with her constant yammering – to be fair though, it wouldn’t be hard to find someone say the same thing about me! I like how trashy Sonya is and how you never know what is going to come out of her mouth but don’t really think much of her either. Heather and her HOLLA…ick. Aviva very forgettable, IMO. I’m not liking OC much either. The guys on there creep me out. Brooks is so gross and Eddy’s looks really bother me for some reason. That new girl I think will be getting on my nerves soon as well, if she hasn’t already. Her ex-pot smoking mom with the fairy dust and all her issues kinda cracks me up though. I really can’t stand Heather…she seems to think she’s pretty hot stuff. She ate. the bow. off of my cake. I wish I wasn’t so excited about NJ. I just can’t stay away from it. I hope there is a lot of dirty laundry aired this season about all of the others (I’m horrible…!) but am not holding my breath.

Great way to put it Jeannie. I hate going on FB and seeing all the Mother’s Day wishes when I know a few of my friends are struggling with infertility. My sister had terrible fertility issues. So of course, I had our daughter four years before she could conceive. She was so good to me on Mother’s Day, but I know it was hard for her. My sister-in-law did not find a suitable partner until she was too old to have children, so it is hard for her also. So I agree with you Jenny, I hope every woman has a beautiful day, because we are all caretakers! Happy Day, every woman!

  18. May 11, 2013 at 11:20 PM

So excited Famey is blogging about another franchise! (I watch them all – altho’ OC is becoming almost unviewable.) The NY cast kind of grew on me, but needs time to gel I think. I understand those that feel appearing on these shows is a financial opportunity, but may be in the minority that HATES corporate greed across the board – in ALL areas, not just reality tv. (Yes, I’ve marched with the 1%ers lol) and have an affinity for those who band and stick together for a cause. However, that being said, Carole has not furthered that cause by calling the viewer an “idiot” – to say the least. When will any of them learn that without the support of the fans, they have no opportunities or leverage? Fans were ready to like the bike riding Kathy weren’t they? Until the “army of idiots” comment.

BRAVO/Comcast won’t want to recast this soon is about the only leverage these HW’s have, I’d say. None of them are popular enough for a public outcry should they do so – or cancel, and Comcast has very deep pockets to wait it out. I think the gals better get back to work.

Hi everyone, and the very best wishes to all of the mothers and grandmothers on the site for a wonderful and a very Happy Mother’s Day, especially to the first time moms.

I would like to say that I cannot muster any sympathy for RHONY women and their salary issues, as if accurate, the lowest salary is $175,000 for 3 to 4 months of cameras following you around and putting you on television (not to mention their bonuses or product promotion and free advertising). This is not a 9 to 5 job, 365 days a year and the lowest salary is much more than most people(and families) make for working much harder year round. I hope Bravo will stand its ground, and will crack down on all their franchises and shows regarding violence, revealing plot lines, not showing up to reunions, etc. and fire them for all their infractions. I am not saying that I don’t like some of these women on the shows, but many of them should be no where near a reality television show and are truly not nice human beings. They could all stand to have a little more humility and appreciate what they have and the opportunities they have been given. Cannot muster sympathy when there are too many people with truly real problems. I, for one, hope Bravo stands their ground and fires them, if they won’t sign their contracts. We have already seen too much of some of these women anyways. Totally, my opinion, as I do believe women should make equal pay for equal work, and should not be taken advantage of in the workplace (or anywhere), but as we know, this is a part time job with many perks and making more money than many people who really do work extremely hard (talking real manual labor). Good luck to them, but I hope Bravo follows through with their ultimatum.

Again, Happy Mother’s Day and a good day to those who aren’t mothers, as well. We all deserve a good day, just for the hell of it.

Interesting how Melissa Gorga has retweeted two of Caroline’s posts from Antonia’s Communion. Perhaps coincidentally? . . . .one of them features a picture of Little Joey dancing on the dance floor – maybe I am being cynical but could this be a bit of damage control for last week’s video?:

The next retweet is a video of Antonia on the dance floor dancing to C’e La Luna Mezz’o Mare and I think Joe Gorga steps in for a bit – the video is dark and hard to see who’s who.

I am glad to see there was a good time to be had by all. Apparently, the Wakiles and Rosie attended Antonia’s party at the Brownstone – Lysa posted pictures of them enjoying themselves. She also gave a shoutout to The Brownstone for “throwing an amazing party for my niece”; GeorgeMiguel for “Best make up artist EVER”; and SCE EventGroup (DJ, photobooth, etc.) for “rocking the house”.

As of right now, Teresa hasn’t posted anyting about Gabriella’s special day. Wonder if the Wakiles and Rosie, who are not just Joey’s cousins but also Teresa’s, managed to attend part of Gabriella’s celebration.

Bravo – you really expect us to believe all this hype about family getting along – about friendships on the mend?? The more and more “real” time that goes by, the more I believe RHONJ is completely scripted and these women are out on their publicity tours for their books and the show propagating these myth storylines.

You know what Jeannie… I’m wondering if Teresa is having Gabriellas Party today, or something. It’s strange that she never tweeted a picture of her in her dress, nothing about her party, very odd.

i was hoping you were right and that maybe Gabriella’s party was today and then, that way, the families could all be together. But, I just went to Teresa’s TL and she tweeted this on Friday:

I know Jeannie I saw that. Thats how we all knew Antonia and Gabriella made their Commuinon on the same day.

I’m saying that she if you noticed she didn’t say when she was going to send pictures. Also Gabriella obviously made her Communion( yesterday) but maybe did not have her party yet. Maybe she is having it today, or maybe next week. Some people do that. These could be for Teresa especially because of the same family members attending, ya know.

Or maybe she didn’t want to have dueling pictures of Antonia and Gabriella Communion pictures on the same day.. Like a competition of who is postiong whos daughters pictures first.. I don’t know, I’m just guessing here.

Yes to each having their own special day HolyC…also I think T is very understated compared to the others when it comes to her girls. She never has come across…despite all the criticism…as willing to pimp her kids for fame.

Teresa must have had her party for Gabriella last night. She tweeted in reply to someone that she couldn’t go to Antonia’s last night because it was Gabriella’s communion. Why on earth would they have their parties on the same day? Like come on.

Huh? I didn’t see anything like that one her Teresa’s TL. Well, why not have their parties on the same day, what are ya gonna do? Either one has it the same day, and the other has it the next day or the following week, then how do you decide which one has it on the actual day? Wow, rough way to go ya know. You don’t want the girls to feel slighted.

You decide as a family. I call BS on the truce as well since neither the Gorgas or the Giudices wished the other a happy communion.

The fact that they decided to have two separate parties on the same night, speaks volumes. Too bad the young cousins are the ones suffering because of everyone else’s egos.

I disagree Teresa was very smart not to combine the party. With all do respect Zoebot. If you look at Antonia’s over done wedding/communion dress in comparison to Gabrielas appropriate communion dress I think Meho would have made it down right competition. Another ugly fact that exists is Meho’s tranny sisters being there of course. They have no shame. The christening ring a bell? Teresa sparing the kids on this one was smart. I’m sure that she had to mull over that. Plus what if they just did not want to combine. Regardless of the truce.

                      @Zoebot

I think the girls deserved their own parites, maybe they did wish their daughters God Bless on making their Communions ( privately). I don’t think it speaks volumes that they had their parites on the same night, like I said seriously what are you gonna do? One child is gonna feel slighted, ( it’s not like they are not old enough to realize) So which one do you basically ‘ sacifrice? It’s a tough call like I said ya know? I just hope the grandparents were able to attend both somehow.

LOL She is a beautiful girl but the dress looks like something that a traveler would wear. Way too over the top of a the occasion. This was day about accepting God into her life. It was not supposed to be about all about her dress and partying.

When they have a celebration for their child it is all about a party for the adults.

That is so true, Meri. I feel sad for the child who is being celebrated! The poor child has to watch mom, dad, uncles and aunts get intoxicated. Just think when the child gets older the smell of alcohol will bring back memories of their childhood parties! I still can’t get over how the Gorga’s didn’t ‘barter’ a free birthday party for lil’ Joey!

I hope that all the Mothers — and precious Grandmothers (Nanas and Nonnas) had a most memorable, happy, loving Mother’s Day rife with an abundance of hugs, kisses and of course, great food! 🙂 XOXO to all of you.

Happy Mother’s Day everyone, NY HW could do with new women and I won’t watch until Ramona is gone, that woman is so irritating. I made my Niece’s communion dress from my sisters wedding gown. The church had rules, the dress could not touch the floor, could not be wider than 2 feet and had to be white. My church didn’t want anyone to “stand out”. Kinda like the school uniform where they all look the same. My niece is now 40, times have changed since then, but my church would never have allowed a dress that IMO was way “over the top”. Gabrielle dress is very appropriate and she looked beautiful.

    • May 12, 2013 at 9:55 PM

Happy Mother’s Day to you too Cher. I will bet your niece’s dress was beautiful. What a wonderful idea, using my wedding dress (I was saving it for my daughter, but she wanted her own, I cannot blame her) to make a first communion dress. Thank you.

    • May 12, 2013 at 10:03 PM

That’s a wonderful idea on re-making your wedding dress into a communion dress Cher! I liked both dresses, both Gabrielle’s just seemed more age appropriate than Antonia’s and not over the top — simple and elegant. Not judging, only my opinion.

      Hi Cher!

When my youngest made her Communion, she was in Catholic school (in NJ) and all the kids from the public schools and the private ones were given “guidelines” as to what was appropriate to wear for the exact reasons you mention – the church said in the letter sent home that it was “about the sacred Sacrament of Holy Communion and not a fashion show”. And with those guidelines, my daughter and all of the little girls looked absolutely beautiful. A couple of the girls had mini-bouquets of flowers; well, wouldn’t you know it, one of the little “mean” girls got all pissy. Sorry if that sounds harsh – but it’s true. She was one of the “leaders” in school and started whispering to some of her friends and caused a bit of a fuss.

I think Melissa is contriubuting to putting a bullseye on her daughter, inviting jealousy of Antonia. We have heard about Gia’s experiences of being bullied and made fun of all because the kids were jealous that her mom was on TV.

We are all well aware, unfortunately, girls big and small, can be very mean and catty towards each other and it does start that young.

I hope every mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin had a wonderful day. Seeing yourself in your children and grandchildren is a wonderful, beautiful thing, which brought so much joy to my heart.

I hope everyone had a wonderful Mother’s Day today. My daughter took my mom and I up to the local country club for brunch. I went to pay and my daughter said no that it was on her, so I let as I remember how proud I felt the 1st time I was able to say that to my mom. I went outside to cool the car off and when we got home she mentioned that she only left a 5 dollar tip. She said well the receipt didn’t have the suggested tip on it like it usually does. Guess it’s back to tipping 101 lessons for her.

Her heart was in the right place at least! Jealous that you had to cool off the car though…it’s cold here in Indiana!

Ms. Jules, what a sweet gesture. I am sure you were all so proud. The first time my children ordered pizza delivered when they were alone, I specifically told them how much to tip. Well, they did not tip. I was mortified and ran to the pizza place and tipped double when I got home! Ah memories.

Melissa has been tweeting about Antonia’s dress and who is making it since the end of December. She tweeted and named the photographer who would be taking Antonia’s picture. Melissa tweeted the day of the Communion and tweeted yesterday several times giving a shoutout to the people who DJ’d and ran the event. Lysa Simpson tweeted as well, giving the name of the vendors. The Gorgas have released pictures to Starcasm.net and RadarOnLine did a glowing article, along with photographs, all about Antonia’s day – Tom Murro must have attended.

    http://radaronline.com/exclusives/2013/05/rhonj-star-melissa-gorga-daughter-celebrates-first-communion/

Teresa, on the other hand, has been very quiet about Gabriella’s day with minimal mention. She hasn’t even published any pictures yet but she probably will shortly.

The difference – once again, like with Superstorm Sandy, Teresa went about living her “real” life quietly celebrating a most special and sacred occasion with her family and not exploiting her daughter – just like Wendy Williams said – contrasting with Melissa using Antonia’s special day as an opportunity for publicity and a huge photo op.

For Teresa, it’s all about family; for Melissa, it’s all about Melissa.

I am so glad everyone enjoyed Mothers Day ! Oldest d arrived home Saturday late and I spent Sunday at her house helping her unpack, do laundry and then pack her bags again for 3 week trip to France. Her husband has arranged to accompany her on the trip ! Yay! Hubs surprised me with a lovely antique writing desk that I admired ( coveted) at a tiny new antique store . We went to brunch and then dinner with d and son in law. Had to be content with phone call from youngest D and grandson. But will see them next weekend! Hope all enjoyed Mothers Day!

I think you’re right Jeannie. Gabriella has never really liked the cameras and doesn’t want to be filmed so I don’t think the lack of publicity is odd. Teresa has always respected her wishes when it comes to exposure. I believe allowing Gabriella to celebrate without the worry of being “on display” was her main priority. As you’ve mentioned several sites have already posted on Antonia’s party, her dress and those who attended. I think this would have horrified Gabriella and I commend Teresa for putting her child first and not tainting her special day.

I don’t know if Antonia’s party was filmed for the show but I’d imagine it was. Sadly the only time they’ve ever thrown an extravagant party for their kids is when it’s filmed. I’m not faulting the Gorgas. Whether filmed or not, I’m happy to see them put forth the effort – someone had to arrange all the freebies.

Despite the reasoning behind it all, Antonia looked beautiful and her dress was princess like. I hope she enjoyed her special day to its fullest as I’m sure Gabriella did.

        May 13, 2013 at 10:08 AM

I think, if I’m not mistaken, filming for the show has ended, but I do believe this was, once again, Melissa getting her name and family out there and keeping it there. It is so obvious that the amenities and services for this event were given either gratis or with a price reduction (the Brownstone included – that promo tidbit trying to lead us to believe Caroline is rethinking who Melissa really is – all BS in my opinion). Melissa is the ultimate famewhore.

Jeannie, you summed it up for me and as usual are spot on. Teresa is a great Mom and perhaps has grasped that there is a fine line between allowing your child to be on camera and allowing them to be exploited. May I say both girls are beautiful and their dresses were equally pretty. I know we all come from vastly different cultural backgrounds and so it is interesting to see the differences. I am not condemning Messy but I do.applaud Teresa for keeping the celebration private and the reason for the occasion in perspective. IMO. Commercializing a communion just rings a false note with me. Reminds me a bit too much of Star Jones wedding . A tad bit commercial but gain my opiniononly
