Are Bravo’s Shows Too Contrived? Their Next New ‘Reality’ TV Show is ‘Project LA’

Bravo is Casting for a New Reality TV Show Based in Los Angeles

Bravo is casting for a new ‘reality’ TV show, ‘Project LA‘ (working title), using the same formula they use for their other ‘reality’ shows. The network is searching for people who want to be “instantly adored” and willing to do anything to become “the next American super-obsession,” including selling out family and friends for instant fame and the promise of fortune. Bravo says: “It’s not all about you – we want your inner circle too – your friends, your family and even your frenemies.” To be considered for a starring role in “Project LA,” you need to show Bravo that you have “lots of drama going on in your life” and that you are willing to be characterized as a “hero or villain” in an “ultimate vanity lifestyle ensemble performance production.” Casting is limited to Los Angeles locals 21 and over.

Bravo Needs to Do Something, Like Quality Programming, to Get Its Viewers Back

From a November 2012 @BravoRatings Twitter Conversation:

BravoRatings ‏@BravoRatings
Where are @BravoTV’s #RHoA’s viewers going? After a record premiere, last 2 episodes have dropped to 2.5m viewers http://bit.ly/BR20121118

Lesley Abravanel ‏@lesleyabravanel
@BravoRatings It’s funny that 2.5 is a ‘drop’ when you look at Miami’s numbers!

BravoRatings ‏@BravoRatings
@lesleyabravanel That’s very true but at this stage last season #RHoA was averaging over 3m viewers.

Lesley Abravanel ‏@lesleyabravanel
@BravoRatings How does Beverly Hills compare? Sounds like the franchise is burning out

BravoRatings ‏@BravoRatings
@lesleyabravanel thru 2 epi BH is slightly ahead of Season 2. Did u read the RHoA post http://bit.ly/BR20121118 also read http://bit.ly/BRFallSweeps3 “Bravo’s Third Week of Sweeps Isn’t Much Better Than Their Second – Year-on-Year Down 18% & 18-49 Down 25%”

BravoRatings ‏@BravoRatings
@lesleyabravanel Not just Real Housewives but sadly Top Chef too. See these 2 articles http://bit.ly/BRFallSweeps2 “After a Strong Sunday, the Rest of Bravo’s Premiere Week is Best Swept Under The Rug”

Lesley Abravanel ‏@lesleyabravanel
@BravoRatings Sounds like Bravo needs to do something drastic to get its viewers back. Like putting on, gasp, quality programming?

Lesley Abravanel ‏@lesleyabravanel
@BravoRatings Top Chef became too formulaic and Housewives has become too much about women trying to be famous for nothing than reality

BravoRatings ‏@BravoRatings
@lesleyabravanel agree re TC – it also didn’t innovate. Food Network & Fox have taken Bravo’s food viewers & RH was better in early seasons

BravoRatings ‏@BravoRatings
After a week’s break the weak ratings continue for @BravoTV’s #FlippingOut http://bit.ly/BR20121113 which is trending down 30% in the 18-49 demo

Chrys Bader ‏@chrysb
Bravo’s DNA is not compatible with Silicon Valley’s DNA. The Real Silicon Valley: http://takeaswig.com/the-real-silicon-valley

Harjeet ‏@Harjeet
@chrysb agree. on the bright side it’s been panned by critics (http://www.metacritic.com/tv/start-ups-silicon-valley/critic-reviews …) and their viewer numbers suck (http://bravoratings.com/2012/11/06/bravo-ratings-for-monday-november-5th-2012-rhobh-susv-wwhl/ …)

BravoRatings ‏@BravoRatings
@Harjeet @chrysb and sadly (?) they dropped by 50,000 viewers (95% of which are aged 18-49) this week http://bit.ly/BR20121112

BravoRatings ‏@BravoRatings
@CameronDecades @ChristosDecades If you’re looking for a new career move why not join Duck Dynasty at 10.30pm they had 8.2m viewers on A&E!

From BravoRatings.com March 2013:

The Real Housewives Franchise

It will be interesting to see how this upcoming RHOC season rates and it was probably wise that there weren’t any losses from the previous season’s cast, as presumably that was one of the main reason for last year’s precipitous loss of ratings for RHoNY Season 5. Certainly, RHoA is still going incredibly strong; averaging over 3m viewers per episode and RHoBH is holding at just over 2m although its ratings are no longer growing despite the amount of press the RHoBH wives have had. With a certain amount of ennui creeping into the Housewives’ viewers, we predict that RHOC won’t attain their records from last season but see no reason why they shouldn’t stay close to 92% to 95% of last year’s ratings.

Vanderpump Rules, Season 1

The first spin-off from The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, Vanderpump Rules centers around the young staff at Sur, a restaurant owned by Executive Producers Lisa Vanderpump and Ken Todd. Sur is one of five spin-offs from the Real Housewives’ franchise overall and follows Date My Ex, Bethenny Ever After, Don’t Be Tardy and the upcoming The Kandi Factory, which debuts April 2013. The show which debuted in a seamless transition during a crossover scene between RHoBH’s Brandi Glanville & Sur’s Scheana Marie also starred Stassi Schroeder, Jax Taylor, Kristen Doute, Tom Sandoval and Katie Maloney with Lisa Vanderpump’s motherly love & iron fist dispensed in equal measure. That premiere episode drew an impressive 1,893,000 viewers (18-49 demo 0.80) and while it never regained that large an audience for subsequent episodes, with it averaging 1.562m for its regular episodes (not including reunions) it managed to rate the same as Season 5 of RHoNY and higher than the second season of RHoM. As for RHoBH, “Vanderpump Rules” was produced by Evolution Media with Douglas Ross, Greg Stewart, Alex Baskin, Bill Langworthy, Lisa Vanderpump and Ken Todd served as Executive Producers.

Are Viewers Sensing That Bravo’s Shows Are Too Contrived?

The second last regular episode of the fourth season of RHoNJ didn’t exactly set the ratings alight. This 19th episode dropped 221,000 (-7.12%) on the previous weeks with a total audience of 2,744,000 viewers and a demo of 1.20. In BravoRatings.com’s weekly projections, they surmised that this episode would be watched by between 2.8-3.0m viewers, and they were a little shocked that the actual viewership was below the bottom of our range. From what they saw online after this episode aired, it appeared there was a great deal of push-back from the viewers who seemed to smell too much of a set-up by Bravo and their producers. Are these shows becoming too contrived? [Source]

Part Three of the Season 4 Reunion Special rehashed the preceding 20 episodes of the regular season in what became the longest season in the RHoNJ’s four seasons. After the first two Reunions had scored ratings of 3,493,000 and 3,594,000, respectively, BravoRatings.com expected that the third hour would drop from those numbers to 3.3 million. And they were almost spot on as, in fact, 3,306,000 viewers tuned in at 10 PM. However, despite the drop of 288,000 viewers, the coveted 18-49 demo percentage held at 1.60. [Source]

The fourth season of RHoNJ wrapped up with off cuts pieced together for the Lost Footage episode. The three reunion episodes for the season averaged 3,464,333 viewers (1.63 in the 18-49 demo), but less than half of those bothered to tune-in for the Lost Footage episode. However, the 1,641,000 (18-49 demo 0.80) viewers that did tune in was still a larger audience than the average for the entire fifth Season of RHoNY (1,616,250 & 0.70 demo) and more than double the ratings for the previous week’s 6th episode of RHoM. The third season of RHoNJ didn’t have a Lost Footage episode and so it’s difficult to do a fair and accurate comparison. The average viewership of all 24 RHoNJ episodes of Season 4 was 2,665,250 and a 1.28 in the18-49 demo and that includes the lower ratings for the Lost Footage episode. With the Lost Footage episode included, Season 4 only just rated higher than Season 3, which averaged 2,662,905, although its 18-49 demo rated fell ever so slightly. [Source]

I just commented something just like this yesterday on a HW board where I chat. I only watched half of BH last week, it’s become so ridiculously boring. Then they aired S2 of OC on Thursday and I felt like I was back with an old friend – this is what I loved about the housewives! Now Bravo is all catty fake drama and it’s really gotten boring.

The LA Shrinks show – wow is that ridiculously boring. But Bravo retweeted the 3 or 4 positive comments they got for it. LOL. Morons.

I’ve said it before, people love Duck Dynasty because it us fun and guess what … No backstabbing evil contrived bs. It makes you laugh, you can relate, and at the end if the show you feel good. Not aggravated like you want to wring someone’s neck to slap someone silly! Who wants to see families and friends destroy eachother when you can watch a fun loving family like on Duck Dynasty?

      • March 10, 2013 at 1:20 AM

I agree Meri and they don’t hide that fact that it is a docu-drama (slightly scripted) but it is calming and fun (well Miss Kay and the skinned squirrel were a bit much for me). NJ for S1 and S2 were fun with a hint of pepper. Then the Marcos and Wakilies came on and it was jabanero out of of the gate. The editing was poor and left the viewers going what?

The thing I don’t understand is, why is Bravo going done this path again? The formula is dying a slow death. I don’t want to watch “frenemies”, I want to watch real people doing real things.

That’s why Honey Boo Boo is popular, too; yeah, the family’s not exactly cultured, but they love each other, and that’s what people loved about the show.

Agree! First two seasons of OC and first season of NY and NJ were the best.
I think ATL lost viewers when Kim left

I wouldn’t mind quality scripted programming. Lately, I’ve been watching a lot reruns of the Charmed Series and Ugly Betty instead of reality tv. I loved these two shows when they were still on the air. If a random episode comes on and I have already seen it, I’ll switch from Bravo to whatever rerun is on. Maybe Bravo should do something new. All this cattyness among reality tv cast members is tiresome and quickly moving toward ridiculous.

I was really turned off to the Housewives shows after Meho and Slow Joe joined NJ. I do stongly believe Meho was jealous to all hell of Teresa and the script fit Bravo. I like a lot of people enjoyed the nutty and sometimes mean attitudes that would lurk around the ladies. As soon as the Marcos darkness engulfed the show I turned it off and decided to turn off the rest of the franchises. The fact that Bravo let these imbeciles do this to a family member made it difficult to take any of the other franchises for a real reality.

  4. JUST ME.
    March 10, 2013 at 4:18 AM

I don’t think bravo gets it at all, the show became very dark, stressful to watch, and it all went downhill when meho and slow joe and the stir pot family came along for what Kathy calls a piece of the pie, then the decide to have everyone turn on the shows biggest star Teresa….hello by now they know we do not want that crazy bunch, me I do not want to see poor Teresa torn apart again but I do not want to them all kiss and Teresa to forgive every thing that was said to and about her and joe, I don’t want to see Teresa kiss up to wacko jacko and Caroline and her brats after them bully a little child, Gia, no sorry that is unforgiveable to me, jacko saying I hope joe goes to jail?? Unforgivable, I am sorry maybe I hold a grudge but something’s in life should be unforgivable, it was way over the top, what should have happened was Teresa given her own show and watch the real housewives of nasty town sink with the others, none of them can carry the show.

    • mare
      March 10, 2013 at 10:24 AM

I agree with you. It isn’t holding a grudge. It is protecting your own. That group has not only attacked Teresa but her kids, her husband, her partents and her livelihood. And this was from her family and friends! I still can’t believe the way Joe and Kathy treated and spoke about the senior Gorgas. So disgusting.
I think it is smart to keep these people as far away as possible. I would. And I wouldn’t call it a grudge. I would call it smart.

      • JUST ME.
        March 10, 2013 at 6:25 PM

I am sorry to say Teresa’s own family is toxic, she needs to keep her children away from them, after all kids copy the behavior of family, who wants the guiduce children to grow up and think that it normal for them to be like uncle joe and meho? And of curse Gia knows what has happened and what mommys own family did to them…kids do not have to had watched the program to know this, they hear it at school, and from other parents, they over hear things, the saying little pictures with big ears applies to children..I feel so bad for Teresa she has done nothing to deserve this, she doesn’t talk bad about her brother, she loves him but Joey says horrible things to and about his only sister, he will be sorry someday when his parents are gone and the only person left is his sister, if I were Teresa I would just turn my back on him, he will only hurt her again.

do you all remember when ”dallas” use to air and and everybody use to hate ”JR” well i think that is what bravo msandy thought tht we would love to hate them, and that is not so,when i cant stand someone i cant stand to watch it but yes im finished watching bravo
by the way i do thank you all from my heart for praying they find our daughter ,,in the 2 days she was missing ,GOD only knows as ,to what extent she suffered, only prayer brought her home ,she WILL be alright .
you just dont realize the evil that is lurking around every corner.

  5. March 10, 2013 at 5:14 AM

Top Chef is losing its audience because Coliccio cheated and interfered with another judge’s vote on the Top Chef Allstars season. I just can’t watch it anymore because the women are treated unfairly.

I haven’t even watched RHOBH because when it started I thought they were going to be a cut above the other Housewives, but they’re not. I’m particularly disappointed in Lisa and Adrienne for lowering themselves so. I used to love Kyle, but she’s getting hard to like, and Brandi has pulled the whole show down to tabloid level. It’s not fun to watch any more. I never liked RHOOC that much and RHOA has too many people to keep track of. I will watch Kim’s spin off if we get to see the babies.

Once I saw the ads for RHOM with someone slapping one of the other women, I didn’t even bother. I liked the new women on RHNYC, but the best part of it was when the blonde called Sonja and Ramona white trash because it needed to be said. I wish they’d get rid of all the old ones, bring in more people on Carol’s level and include more stories like the one where the kid got his first running legs. I’m burned out on all the trash talk. I never want to see Jill Zarin or The Countess again. I love seeing the wealthy people giving back, but not with the stupid charity events.

As for my favorite franchise, RHONJ, I wish they’d do a spin off of Teresa’s family. I love watching the girls grow up. I’m sick of skanky Melissa, but I love it when her kids play with Tre’s – they’re so cute.

    • March 10, 2013 at 10:15 AM

I would like to see Teresa leave the network, and get a show involving her family and cooking.

      • JUST ME.

Morgaine – what did Coliccio do on the Allstars season? I don’t get how some of the people were able to make it through different rounds this season.

  6. March 10, 2013 at 5:24 AM

Also, I’ll only watch the LA show if Alexander Skarsgård is on it. That’s a life I’d care to know more about, lol.

    March 10, 2013 at 6:21 AM

I think the “Lost Footage” episode seemed the least planned out. It was comical and no one appeared to be acting. I saw a different side of Caroline during the tug- of-war scene. She looked like the old Caroline. Very refreshing. Anyone else catch the “Lost Footage?”

    • Anonymous
      March 10, 2013 at 8:39 AM

I have to respectfully disagree, while watching I was hoping to get a peek at Tre and Joes vow renewals…. Nada…. But they did show Xanjax wedding dress shopping. The tug of war scene was purposely cut to make Tre look like her competitive streak was more cheating, they tried to make her look like a fool looking for her cookbook in a privately owned bookstore that doesnt normally carry “reality-star” books and cookbooks, and they only showed clips of Joe Guidice looking like a mean husband saying he doesn’t want to wear a wedding ring and that he’s still homophobic… I was hoping for a little redemption but just how they showed Danielle Staub in a negative light during her stint on the show they did the same to Tre.

        March 10, 2013 at 5:18 PM

I have to say after watching the Lost Footage episode I came away with the same feeling – it was also skewed to put Teresa in a bad light like the entire season. Even the cook-off, which she won, was not really that kind to Teresa – it almost seemed that whoever was doing the editing had to show she won but did it grudgingly.

  8. March 10, 2013 at 7:21 AM

Hey Moma: Everyone can see that we’re together as we walk on by….! Your absence was duly noted!

I think it’s terrible that Bravo are looking to cast Frenemies. They are looking for combative people.

I’m with everyone else who said that the moment the Gorgas were cast a dark shadow crept over Bravo. Firstly, the charade was up and secondly, that they were prepared to go there.

  9. March 10, 2013 at 8:21 AM

Yes, they are all too contrived. Every housewife, cooking, modeling, restaurant, hotel, crabbing, yukon, mountain men, fashion designer, gator catching, realtor, dancing, beauty pageant, shrink, dog training, beauty shop reality show out there go by a formula. (I’m guessing I missed a genre or ten in my list). You need only watch one or two and you’ve seen them all. Each genre would have been better as a one show mini documentary as opposed to a series. I am so bored with it all.

i liked jersey housewives, when everyone got along. it was lots of fun seeing them go on trips, teresa all dressed up at hunting lodge. her daughter ,saying you are a good cooker, little things like that that.loved the cruise to italy,no backstabbing, just pure fun. caoline and jacko sitting in kitchen eating great food, because they couldn’t understand italian lol, teresa mixing with everyone.even with danielle there, it was never as vicious as it is now. we saw danielle in diner, with her girls having a nice dinner and talking. Her lying in bed with daughters after having her breast operation.now i don’t watch bravo at all, i rather watch hsn lol, seriously i like the duck family, now that reminds me of what housewives used to be.In real life,i’ve never known a real person like melissa or poison joe, but know someone who comes out with funny things, like one of the ducks

  12. March 10, 2013 at 10:12 AM

I think by now even the dullest amongst us has figured out that only desperate idiots join these shows, hell every housewife in Miami in certain zip codes got the mass e-mail, even me, and i lead a very boring life. Leah Black has always been off her rocker. Now she degrades herself by hanging around these social misfits so she can be on reality television. I wouldn’t watch that show for a million dollars and neither would anybody I know. They are all considered idiots. reality t.v. is all about whipping up a cheap show because you don’t have to pay real actors and these people work for peanuts with the promise that thaey can make up the deficiencies in their salaries by hawking their bullshit on t.v. Or write a stupid book. Brandi literally arrested in reading and writing comprehension on a third grade level. Yet, she managed to get on the new York Times Bestsellers list which is a pretty sad commentary on our society if in fact it is true.
I think the New York Times is skewed because an author will buy in huge bulk so he or she can have that title, knowing they will make the money back in speaking engagements and paid appearances. Unless you really think the entire country is enthralled with Drinking and Tweeting, because they care about Brandi Glanville and Leann Rimes. I’m not buying it. Sorry.
These shows are jumping the shark, yet bravo keeps producing more spin-offs. I just don’t get it. As a collective society are we that dumb? By the way, I watched an episode of the New Normal just so I could see what this show is about and to see if Nene can act. It is one of the least funny shows I have ever seen, poorly acted by everyone, not just Nene. It’s a joke. It’s actually an embarrassment for Ryan Murphy but I guess nobody has the guts to tell him. He is killing his career.

    • March 10, 2013 at 11:42 AM

Great post and ITA about the New Normal. It only lasted a few eps here before it was pulled.

        • March 11, 2013 at 12:36 AM

From what I understand New Normal was pulled in Australia but has not “officially” been cancelled here in the States. And I agree, Sackem – NN is a poor man’s version of MF!!! From the little I have watched of MF because I am not a regular viewer, it is funny, witty, poignant, and relevant – all at the same time!

The books actually get on the New York Times list in the first weeks because the stores are stocking their shelves. The true indicator is how long the book stays on the list. If it’s more than a week or two (or three maybe), than people really are buying it.

It was horrendous! ! Not surprisingly it was pulled from the air. Never heard from them again. Aside from two of the ahem “ladies” caught on camera outside a café, in an argument then publicly pulling knives out of their handbags threatening others.. Crazy!! Hoping this concept doesn’t take off in L.A.

Oh Celil. I hope everyone’s alright!

          • March 11, 2013 at 4:04 PM

celi, I don’t know what happened to the comment. I never saw it, so maybe it went to the FW spam folder. Sometimes WordPress put things in the spam folder by mistake. I usually look for comments that shouldn’t have gone there and move them to the right place — maybe your comment went to the Spam folder and I missed it during cleanup.

I hope everything is ok with your daughter.

Oh celi – no matter what, of course, you have my prayers. . . always. You are a special person and God knows that and will always do what He feels is best for you – God sometimes writes with a crooked pen – it is not for us to understand, it is for us to have faith – all will be alright in the end. Love to you!

Oh my goodness .. so sorry you had to go through that Celi. I will send healing prayers your way.

Just like Sin City and Plastic Wives on TLC. One lasted four shows the other a whopping two. You would think these networks would get it by now! Make love not war… well… you know what I mean.

Scrolled up again and looked at that ad again and just had to laugh… “completely unique”… who are they kidding?

  16. March 10, 2013 at 2:02 PM

I totally agree with everything said here and I am not surprised about the ratings decline. I often wondered how many people felt the way I did, concerning the Bravo scripted drama. Now I know. It wasn’t until I made a conscience effort to stop watching all that is Bravo and NBC, that I realized how little I watched on those networks. I was also once a Top Chef fan and simply lost interest quite some time ago. I now enjoy almost everything Food Network.

I love Property Brothers, Duck Dynasty and Swamp People to name a few. These shows are somewhat scripted (I doubt you will see Troy’s beautiful home or his wife’s collection of antiques) but the people themselves have stayed true to themselves and had done well for themselves long before they appeared on television.

I just changed cable providers and this one doesn’t include Bravo in its lineup. I couldn’t be happier and I won’t be tempted to “check in” on the housewives. Bravo has become so twisted and mired in filth that I couldn’t watch HWNJ any more and only catch up with RHBH on these sites. And I won’t have to look at Miss Andy’s chit-eatin’ grin any more!

Fame – I see the source used is Bravo – as my job often requires that I’m up on cable ratings – I am not sure these numbers jive with Neilsen’s – but in any event – I think Bravo is losing viewers due to ‘obviously’ scripted reality tv shows – a failing housewives franchise – and a terrible PR machine. NBC and MSNBC continue to promote Bravo but their efforts are falling short. I almost fell out of my chair the other morning when the Today Show had a set that mimicked WWHL – desperation!

    • March 10, 2013 at 5:13 PM

AnnieC, I don’t believe that BravoRatings.com is affiliated with Bravo.

    March 10, 2013 at 5:27 PM

How about changing that title from “Project LA” to “Project Catfight”f and make either Maury or Jerry one of the stars as the “mediator”. Because that what Bravo has become – famous for showing the human condition in the worst light possible, especially women.

    • Hunny Badger
      March 10, 2013 at 7:33 PM

      No, how about “Project Asshole.”

  20. Jeannie5233
    March 10, 2013 at 5:54 PM

Further thinking about the whole concept for this show, it just reflects what is going on in today’s society – this ad plays to the desire people have nowadays for their own easy 15 minutes in order to be a STAR, without any talent whatsoever. It seems to me that there are hardly any HEROES anymore who our youth can look up to. Values have decayed; the work ethic has decayed – the mentality is “how much can I get without expending much effort”. Whether it be in the sports industry, the film or television industry, or even politics, there are very few people who are in the public eye today who are real role models – being famous has become all about greed. And, to me, that is not something I want my grandkids to be looking up to.

A few weeks ago I got hooked on the Jodi Arias trial. I have never seen an accused murderer testify before. This chick is seriously crazy yet I cant turn it off. I think when the weather warms up here in the north east I will say adious to all hw shows for good. I really cant even root for anyone anymore and if jersey is a repeat Teresa bashfest and she knowingly agree to it then it is on her. Its like Rhianna going back to Chris Brown..girl you know what happened and you went back for more!

      • Jeannie5233
        March 10, 2013 at 7:34 PM

jeanbean – Perfect analogy using Rhianna and Chris Brown!! A couple young men and women look up to and emulate – another sad commentary.

Teresa going back for more – knowingly? If that is true, well then, she has also lost me as an empathizer and she deserves whatever comes her way. Her fans can only do so much – after awhile, it becomes questionable why anyone would support someone who signs on to a show with the knowledge they are going to be used as a “villian”, all to promote drama. If it turns out Teresa knew about this “script” of a repeat from years past, well, that will be it for me

        March 10, 2013 at 7:35 PM

Admittedly, I am now more into the Jodi trial because I have the absolute hots for the prosecutor. Too bad the guy isn’t in NJ.

          March 10, 2013 at 7:52 PM

Just as an aside, I can’t get into the Arias trial – it is way too dark to me. The fact that there really is evil walking among us is a frightening thought and extremely disturbing. The explicit and graphic testimony- I would have nightmares! I choose to try and keep myself in light as much as possible!!

      March 10, 2013 at 7:34 PM

The only “stars” are the ones in the sky. Nobody, really, in entertainment is worthy of that. But there are everyday heroes who are due awe and respect.

      • Jeannie5233
        March 10, 2013 at 7:48 PM

Exactly my point Hunny! But it’s not just in the entertainment industry – it is sports figures today who dope and political figures who stray, financial wizards who pull Ponzi schemes, cops who take bribes, etc. And their stories, along with those in the entertainment industry (Lindsay Lohan, Kim Kardashian, Paris Hilton) are the ones that get all the hype and attention because our society today gets off on infamy, scandal, and outrageousness.

          March 11, 2013 at 9:04 AM

Brilliant Jeannie — you always have a keen knack for hitting the points squarely on the head. It makes me a bit scared, I mean, how to ensure I protect myself from such schemers and toxic folks?

        • March 11, 2013 at 3:53 PM

yes jeannie, I’m with you. There is too much corruption, greed, hunger for fame and notoriety and it sickens me. Hard work, honesty, humility, and morals are being trampled over in the quest for “more”. Too dark and quite frankly sickening.

  21. March 10, 2013 at 6:41 PM

Amen, Jeannie. It is truly sad. Although there is quality programming on t.v. and we don’t have to watch this shit. I like Justified, The Following, Dance Moms, Body of Proof, Southland, NCIS, Luther, etc.
I have lost interest in pretty much every reality show, especially the singing ones, but my daughter loves Duck Dynasty. I don’t want to get interested in another one so I didn’t start. I haven’t watched American Idol or DWTS in 3 years and I actually feel smarter. I love RHONJ, but it causes me so much stress that if it doesn’t change, I’m out. RHOBH has bored me to tears this season. and i don’t care to get to know a new cast. So, Buh Bye.

    • March 10, 2013 at 7:10 PM

the funny thing is, I started watching reality tv because I couldn’t watch scripted television anymore, because most of the time, I could predict the plot within the first 5 minutes, and I’d end up bored. Now I get bored-or aggravated!-with the ridiculous story lines on reality tv, AND they’re scripted!
I have tuned out Bravo since RHONY ended. Watched a little RHOBH, but had to stop because of Brandi and Lisa, and I’m determined to not watch RHONJ.

      • March 10, 2013 at 10:04 PM

I hear you on many of the scripted shows, but I still have some that I love. I’m a GH and Dallas junkie, totally predictable but I still love them. I love Revenge, Once Upon a Time etc. and while I always try to guess the ending as I do with good books, it’s fun watching to see if I’m right.

I do think that one of the big factors for me in the ruin of BH was Brandi. I know that people love her, but I see her as white trailer trash and her behavior on the show and off disgust me.

        • Jeannie5233
          March 11, 2013 at 9:05 AM

You and I have very similar tastes mzjulesaz! I watch all those shows with the exception of GH. Once Upon a Time – what a fantastic show with all the plot twists and turns and fairytale characters. And I love Robert Carlyle (Rumple/Gold). What a gifted actor he is. He has a knack of bringing vulnerability and empathy to a character who is so evil.

Knowing it is all pretend and I can get immersed without the nagging thoughts about what really goes on behind the scenes is so much more satisfying entertainment.

          • March 11, 2013 at 12:20 PM

I completely agree with you on Robert Carlyle, he is amazing. I actually have a little crush on him 🙂 Also the little actress that plays the young Snow White is such a talent. I really enjoy that one hour of getting lost in fantasy as it is well written.

Tonight will be sad on Dallas, saying goodbye to JR 😦

            • Jeannie5233
              March 11, 2013 at 7:15 PM

I know – JR was Dallas but I am interested to see how John Ross develops – I think he will become just as villianous as his father – a chip off the old block! I read somewhere there are talks that possibly one of the storylines will be JR had something to do with Pam’s (Bobby’s ex-wife) disappearance years ago and that possibly Victoria Principal will make an appearance in the future.

But on a more serious note, Larry Hagman will be sorely missed – RIP.

              • March 11, 2013 at 8:37 PM

Yes, I agree that John Ross is his father’s son and him paired up with Pamela Barnes — wow, will be interesting. I would love to see Pam come back for an appearance, but I love Anne. I think Anne would kick her butt to the next state if she started crap.

                • March 12, 2013 at 2:19 AM

I was a bit disappointed in the farewell to JR. It was OK, but it should have been 2 hours and they should have done flashbacks. As morbid as it is … I do like that they are going with the who killed JR theme.

        • March 11, 2013 at 2:25 PM

the one scripted show that I LOVE and am addicted to is The Good Wife. I started off loving Homeland, but…there were too many things happening in it that I just did not buy. I used to watch Dallas faithfully, and loved it, but I didn’t give the new series a chance. Perhaps I’ll tune in to see what I think lol

          • March 11, 2013 at 2:41 PM

Camm, I started watching the Good Wife when it came out and lost track of it (if I forget to set my DVR then I’m lost). I’ll have to see if I can get caught up and set my DVR 🙂

If you do give Dallas a shot, start from the beginning. I really like it.

  22. March 10, 2013 at 10:48 PM

Rumor has it Danielle is filming today, but not with Mel …. HMMMM???? Mel texts Andy and says she’s leaving reality for the circus and includes a pic of her with clowns from Ringing Brothers. At least she posted some cute ones with kids too.

    • March 11, 2013 at 12:37 AM

      I hope she is!

      • March 11, 2013 at 12:52 AM

Which one Danielle filming or Mel joining the circus — LOL

After watching RHOA last night, I am officially done with that show. Those girls bullied Porche and attacked her marriage. I can relate to Porche… I am traditional in that the man is head of the house and I value my husband’s opinion, because I chose to. Those girls ripped her apart because she doesnt want to go to a strip club?!? And how ignorant of Phaedra to say that Jesus hung out with sinners… well Phaedra he was preaching to them, not partaking in the sin! Bravo makes me sick… they condone bullying and defintely try to place a wedge between family. *ends rant* 🙂

    • Hunny Badger
      March 11, 2013 at 9:06 AM

Fbunnie — I love that you are traditional! I have that within me, too. And I would not want to go to a strip club either, no matter what. Not my style of entertainment.

        March 11, 2013 at 10:14 AM

I agree, I am all for women empowerment and stuff, but if you chose to be in a relationship, you give respect to your partner to get it in return, and if Porche is happy with her relationship, who is anybody to say anything. My husband is king of the house, well at least I try to make my husband feel that way 😉 wish is good for me and him !!

      March 11, 2013 at 10:30 AM

fbunnie – Totally agree. This show has officially flown the coop. How disgusting. This was the 2nd show where they made a “strip club” the main part of the episode. All the things to do in Vegas & that’s what the producers come up with….just more crap to degrade women. Good for you Porsha for not going!! Bravo, your making it very easy for many viewers to be done with this franchise.

  24. March 11, 2013 at 3:22 PM

    Gotta love Melissa (kidding)

A fun-filled family dinner and show all rolled into one package!! Wonder if the Giudices are there too?! You know, to promote all that family togetherness now. Better yet, how about the Lauritas too – heck, why not the whole cast now that they are all BFFs again! 😉

I could be confusing myself, but didn’t either Chris or Albie take their date from Millionaire Matchmaker her for a private date? The date was pretty mortified, but it might not have been them … shows blurring together in my brain.
