Bravo Consistently Does Not Rank in the Top 25 of Cable TV Networks for Primetime Viewing
March 11, 2013 101 Comments

“Let’s face it,” said Phil Robertson, star of ‘Duck Dynasty’ on A&E, “the bar has been set pretty low for you to get on American television these days. I think they said, ‘Why don’t we try a functional family,’ and somebody said well, that’s a novel idea. Round here, you know, there’s no outbursts, belligerence, cursing, gettin’ drunk, dope, no, we’re all Godly people, so maybe it’s a little switch for a change. We’re not actually rednecks, but we probably could be called goodoleboys.”

There is a lot more information in the daily cable ratings.
Hat Tip: Thank you AnnieC for the tip!
I am not surprised because Bravo’s shows only are interesting to woman. Pawn Stars is a great reality show you can watch with your family. Athey always give great historical facts on the items people want to sell or pawn.
That’s a good point Jersey. The Lifetime channel is known to target women, and they seem to consistently rank above Bravo in overall rankings. Bravo needs to branch out or go all in — I think they are trying to branch out and draw in more male viewers, but they have failed.
Agree Fame – the Food Network targets women as well, and that network performs very well.
Even Bravo’s big show, Top Chef is putting on the water skis.
Just recently my husband became a fan of the Food Network. He loves Guy’s Big Bite, Sandwich King and anything being barbequed.
By all means momajackie, tell your husband ‘welcome to the club’ – Food Network has some interesting – whacky – entertaining shows – always hoped they would snatch T from Bravo…
“Pawn Stars” like “American Pickers” are all about discovering “stuff” and have nothing to do with gossipy drama, which is the underpinning of any “Wives” crap. It’s educational while “XX Wives” are about schadenfreude.
My 10year old boys love these shows and we always watch it as a family. I love the family on Pawn Stars. The Grandfather, son and grandson team disagree but never to the level of drama seen on real housewifes. The way they bust each other’s chops is entertaining, normal and looks real , not scripted.
Not surprised if the rest of America feels as I do. I have become bored with the whole Housewife concept and all the contrived drama.
The problem with Bravo is they can change the venue, the title, the cast, the location, and the “premise” but the common thread is ALWAYS the same – bully, bash, and trash. There is absolutely nothing uplifting or any redeeming value in any of Bravo’s shows. I think people are starting to have had enough.
Jeannie, I so agree. The common theme among all these HW shows (doesn’t matter the city) is “gossip about each other!” in any of the following scene-venues: lunch, dinner, home dinner party, spontaneous drop by at home, exotic trip, salon.
Agrees Jeannie – People are waking up and smelling the coffee – still think the ratings will spike a bit for RHONJ – but the ugliness – bitterness – mean spiritedness – et al will win out – and the viewers will tune out!!
You are right AnnieC – I think I read somewhere that RHONJ is one of Bravo’s top rated shows and I think the ratings will spike in the beginning of the new season as well. But when it starts to unfold as the same ole same ole, people will be turned off – at least that is what I hope. I also hope that Bravo, as a whole, tanks eventually.
I agree and the other thing that turns me off about NJ is how much of an infomercial it has become.
Off topic – I DVR most of my shows because my schedule is so erratic I don’t know when I am able to sit down to watch a show so I just watched the Dallas episode saying goodbye to JR as I was making dinner – and I cried! SueEllen’s speech – oh my! What is so touching is knowing they were such good and close friends in real life – Linda Gray was with him when he passed.
I know Jeannie, it was a very touching episode. It will be interesting to see if the series can hold it together without JR.
So do I Jeannie. I believe when you record something instead of tuning in real time, it doesn’t count towards ratings. DVRs definitely skew the numbers, however, I don’t think it’s so drastic that it would change the numbers considerably. Also, many of the cable shows are repeated so often that there’s no worry if you don’t catch it the first go. I can’t imagine how they could count the reruns in the ratings either. It’s just hard to know exactly what the numbers are. One thing is certain, the real housewives shows are getting old and tired… and monotonous.
I wonder what the nbc exec’s think of their ratings. I wonder if dumbass Andy has figured out the the independent blogs are consistently correct in their predictions and loss of interest due to his hate on women and poor choices in producers, storylines, his favorite manzos, lauritas, gorgas, richard sisters, etc.. The viewers will threaten to quit watching the fake, mean crap and then – they do leave – ratings are proof. Maybe it is time for Andy to either step up and do his job well or find another job. He has a chance to pull in mega ratings with the REAL NJ – expose the nasty posers and their real life. But no, Andy is so ignorant he thinks because Teresa will put up with the nasty morons that the viewers will. (For the love of her family) Some will, but some – like myself – will not support their discusting crap anymore. The blogs are more honest and enjoyable at this point.
I love The walking Dead. Bravo will have Mega ratings when RHONJ begins & Danniele Staub Walks in …Can’t wait.
Also, nj airs in the summer when the good shows (modern family, downton abbey et)
Omg it posted too fast lol to finish that thought…. Good shows that either aren’t on or new
I am posting this here as well just in case our Miss celi misses it on the last article. I feel it important she sees that I and everyone else here cares about her:
To Miss celi -
No matter what, of course, you, your daughter and your entire family have my prayers. . . always. You are a special person and God knows that and will always do what He feels is best for all of you – God sometimes writes with a crooked pen – it is not for us to understand; it is for us to have faith – all will be alright in the end. Love to you!
Hey Celi. I can’t begin to imagine what has happened but reading your post I hope you will all come through this!
I’ll be thinking of you!
BIG CUDDLE!
Sending you prayers sweet Miss Celi!
A big hug to you and little Ava. I will bet she is growing like a weed.
Her head’s the same size as her torso…. hopefully it’s housing a big brain.
Special prayers being sent Celi. All who post here are in my prayers each and every morning and evening.
Sending prayers your way also Celi xoxoxo
Sending prayers your Celi … hope all is well.
I used to watch BRAVO shows, the various housewives shows, Tabitha and Jeff Lewis and have stopped watching. I was totally turned off after season four of RHONJ and the meanness of let’s pick on Teresa. It opened my eyes to how creepy And twisted Jeff Lewis is and I no longer have patience for his craziness. Tabitha is just a tough broad. The rest of the housewives are either crazy or nasty and mean. It doesn’t surprise me BRAVO doesn’t have higher ratings.
Bravo was consistently the channel I would turn on for everything. I haven’t tuned into it in MONTHS. I’m so over reality tv.
One of the other factors to consider re: cable ratings is how and/or where a cable network is carried by a cable provider. According to the NBC Universal website, Bravo is seen in 75 million homes. Scroll down, and NBC’s USA Network is listed as carried in 90 million homes. Do a little surfing, and you’ll see that Lifetime Network is carried in 98 million homes.
A lot of the issue is the quality of the shows, I agree; I feel sometimes like Tre flipped that table, and every RH franchise went nuts post-flip. In my experience (I was raised in NJ, lived in Chicago, and now live in North Hollywood), Bravo isn’t always considered basic cable, so if a subscriber purchases the cheapest package, TBS or USA might be available, but Bravo and HGTV are not. It’s a “premium” basic channel.
PS: I feel like I will get my “luxury” fix watching Brad and the Dukes of Melrose, I really liked those shows. Not RZ, though, too twiggy for me.
This is true too. There are many other variables, such as what I mentioned above, that effect the numbers. Statistics are NEVER as straight forward as those providing them would like us to believe. Regardless, it would be smart on Andy’s part to pay more attention to the blogs although I believe Andy did just that with RHoNY and he feels that it backfired. More than likely, that has hurt our argument tremendously.
I always thought the numbers were huge for Jersey-? I don’t watch very much TV of any type, but I read-somewhere that the numbers for RHONJ were good??
Maybe the #s are only big for Bravo-Just found this- “The Real Housewives of New Jersey season four debut ranks as the most-viewed season premiere in Bravo history with 3 million total viewers.” -The Hollywood Reporter- It seems like a lot to me.
Ana Capri – with 3 mil views – the show still would not make it into the top 25 cable shows – squarebob spongepants would still come out on top! I do think the upcoming NJ season premiere will pull in numbers – but will soon fade into the night…
Hey Melissa miss the casting for OZ the great and powerful, she b looking like Wicked Witch of The West hahaha and she’s wearing green and all, but the expression is spot on !!
Not to be unkind because I don’t like to comment on people’s looks as we are born with what we have and don’t have control (well, short of plastic surgery, etc.!) over how we look, but many people have said Melissa is a prettier version of Margaret Hamilton who played the Wicked Witch of the West in the Judy Garland version of The Wizard of Oz.
She certainly would not need much make-up to play the part.
We all know shows like Gallery Girls and Shahs of Sunset use the housewife blue print, which is more of Bravo’s scripted drama and we all know what the viewers and critics are saying.
Bravo needs to pull it’s head out of the sand and start listening to the viewers as well as the critics. This is what the viewers are saying about your other programs, listen up Bravo.
Millionaire Matchmaker – I watched one episode and was disgusted and appalled by this moron’s attitude.
Kathy – Because there are few celebrities actually featured on the show, much of its focus is on the endless sex jokes and bleeped language used to talk about them.
Tabatha Takes Over – cant stand her! she looks like an alien and her voice is so annoying.
The Rachel Zoe Project – At the very least, they need something to make the show interesting enough to watch for other reasons besides placed cameos by fashion legends.
Top Chef – I wrote about the disaster of a season that ensued, its inane rivalries, and the “mean-girl” antics that put the cooking on the back burner.
Flipping Out – “Flipping Out” might want to consider flipping off
Lewis, six seasons into the game, comes across as simply unpleasant.
Watch What Happens Live – He is an awful host. I can’t watch the show anymore.
For almost all of the above mentioned programs I could not find ONE favorable review. Top Chef once had good reviews, but as of lately, all of it’s reviews seem to have gone south. It is not rocket science Bravo, just “google” your programs and see what the viewers and the critics are saying.
GREAT SUMMARY MOMA!
if this isn’t proof that Andy has ruined Bravo, I don’t know what is. Wasn’t he just promoted to head of programming or something?? I think we ALL used to watch a lot more of Bravo before that happened!
Good. Hopefully this will lead to the downfall of Bravo.
I quit watching Bravo because I could no longer stand the filth. They keep pushing the envelope when it comes to seeing how low they can go. And I ain’t no prude neither!
I really don’t watch Bravo either anymore, but am still addicted to Jersey. They did ruin everything else, I wonder who their target audience is as it’s obvious that most that “were” viewers can’t stand the scripting and as you said filth. If Miss Andy’s goal was to chase viewers off, he’s done a darn good job of that. The last time I watched it was NJ and they happened to run Top Gun instead of their constant reruns.
Let me clarify … they have ruined Jersey as well, but I’m still addicted.
It is all trash-but I must admit I do want to see how things turn out for Teresa. Jersey is all I watch on Bravo. The others I can do without. I have always hoped for her is have her own show-FAR away from Bravo.
I am huge fan of Teresa, I will watch again once she is no longer on RHNJ. Andy Cohens hatred of her husband and children is too disturbing.
Just checking in before bed, this “spring forward” is killing me.
I have noticed a few new posters, welcome and keep posting. Fame’s site is awesome.
Jeannie, celi and mzjulesaz, I hope all is well. Sackem and LilyM, enjoy those babies all you can, before you know it they will be grown up.
Hey moma — hope all is well with you too. I get the time change as I hate it since I literally move from mountain to pacific — ugh. I’m now 3 hours behind the east coast and it really sucks for meeting as I’m NOT a morning person.
We do have some new posters and I am with you welcome an keep on posting!
Sackem and LilyM — post pics!!!
Ugh, she’s grown out of the suit I bought her home from the hospital in. Bittersweet!
Hi Moma – same to you my dear! Spring is finally peeping its head cautiously out – love waking up to the birds chirping! Pretty soon it will be time for crocus, daffodils, tulips, and hyacinths -yeah!!
Bryan “Bulldog” was at NYU for tests and evaluation this past week. He hasn’t been feeling too well from the looks of his TL and it appears he got some bad news. It certainly doesn’t look good:
Bryan@bulldog_nj
Where all gonna die, that’s life but as long as your living while dying & not dying while living. It’s all good! #staypostive 👊
5:02 p.m. – Mar 12, 2013
He probably could use lots of postivity and prayers sent his way about now.
He has a prayer from me. I peeked in on his twitter the other day. I’m a dog person and like seeing pictures of his beautiful dogs. There was a photo of Brian looking ill with one of the dogs comforting him. It just broke my heart. I said a prayer for him then.
I know mare – I saw that picture and you are right. It really is heartbreaking – it is what prompted me to post here. He already has so much courage but what he is facing, at such a young age – I can’t even imagine. And his family – his parents and his sister – they are going through an awful time as well. I wish them all the ability to find the strength they will need as they continue to go through this extremely difficult ordeal. My prayers for all of them.
I hope they can remove all of the tumor. If they can’t, I hope it stops growing. I am praying for Bryan.
This is so very sad, my prayers of with Bryan.
OH NO!
Fame-Sackem-anyone who knows-I need some info! After reading a few other blogs today-I saw this:
“Manzo admits he was skeptical of the claims at first and he doesn’t quite understand the science, but the more he drinks it — he downs a bottle a day — and the more he hears from satisfied customers, the more he believes in blk.
One case in particular, he told Patch, has really assured him of the product’s potential: A mother gave her autistic son blk. to drink, thinking its unique color might get him drinking more water. The boy not only drank it, he loved it, but the amazing part, he started behaving. The mother reached out to Albie, shocked, who sent her two more cases to try. Her son is stimming less and listening and following directions more. The difference, she told Manzo, is unbelievable. ”
Was this BEFORE or AFTER they knew about Nicholas?
This makes them looks REALLY REALLY bad!!
Ana-Capri, that is from an August 9, 2011 article, and it does make the Manzos look really bad. I did a story about it here:
Blackwater and Autism — The Lauritas Use Autism as a Platform to Promote Blk; Jacqueline Admits She’s In It for the Money!
http://famewhorgas.wordpress.com/2012/11/26/blkwater-and-autism-the-lauritas-use-autism-as-a-platform-to-promote-blk/
The Manzos have backed off from those claims, it appears.
Thank you so much-this is very near and dear to this Grandmothers heart. It’s hard to believe they-or anyone would stoop this low. I will now read this article.
Wow-this:
Cast members of Bravo TV’s The Real Housewives of New Jersey hosted a blk. water tasting event on at Stacks Pancake House in Paramus on Saturday. Caroline Manzo and her sons, Albie and Chris Manzo, along with Jacqueline Laurita and her husband, Chris, appeared at the event and are partners in Blk. Beverages. Visitors enjoyed taste-testings, photos and autographs with the Housewives and their families. A portion of the proceeds from this event are being donated to Autism Speaks. – NorthJersey.com and WycoffPatch.com, November 19, 2012
Makes me think they just very well may be trying to use their little boy to push BLK!
This is so terrible-Autism Speaks should stay FAR away them.
They don’t have a choice because they are broke and need to make money.
I think they do have a choice-they just chose what is very very wrong.
I agree Ana-Capri – we all can make choices – even non action on a decision is making a choice. And this – is not only a bad choice, it is an abhorrent one to even insinuate a connection betweent autism and blk.
Regardless of one’s financial situation, there is NO excuse for something like this – it likens back to the era of charletons harking Coca Cola as having medicinal properties. People, desperate for anything to help their child, will feed into this – it is disgusting.
After all of this, the RIGHT choice for the Manzos would be to come out and say there has been a misunderstanding and there is no clinical proof that blk is a remedy for autism. But they won’t.
They are in deep shit if they try to irresponsibly promote a dietary supplement-containing beverage to cure or treat a disease. I work in the industry and the FDA absolutely prohibits that.
Oh Ana,
I just think it’s terrible that these people are profiting off a little boy. This subject deserves to be dealt with in a respectful manner not to prove a point as in “I swear on my child and he’s Autistic” as Jac declared at the reunion. These people are just not sophisticated enough to give the issue proper attention. I wonder how many kickbacks Jac gets for her tweets!
I think you’ll find one of my comments in the article Fame linked sharing my absolute amazement that two young boys from Jersey who do fart jokes have managed to stumble across something that has eluded scientist for years! They really should be working at NASA or in some bio chemistry lab, not hawking Mama’s Meatballs at somebody else’s restaurant in downtown Hoboken
FauxRealityEnt is tweeting Jacs had a tummy tuck last week – remember a few weeks ago, Jacs had tweeted about possibly having a tummy tuck and was tweeting back and forth with Dr. Brent Molleken (he is married to Dayna Devon who is rumored to possibly be on RHOBH next season) who specializes in the Hybrid Tummy Tuck?
Maybe it’s just a koinkidink that Jacs happened to go to CA last week and was MIA for a few days because she didn’t have internet service? Hmmmmmmm!!!!
If this is true, really makes you wonder whether she is mentally stable as her priorities and fiscal responsibility is questionable given she owes boatloads of money to the State of NJ and her home is possibly in foreclosure.
They’ve got the hyperbaric chamber for her to recover in though Jeannie.
I think it’s going to be a Catty Sackem kind of day – Saucer of Milk!
Too funny. Make mine chocolate, lol.
Yummy tuck makes sense. I figured it was that or rehabilitate as she cannot go without tweeting that long. Ifshe went tocali for it, wonder if it was filmed? The chick seriously needs to stop with the Borodin and surgeries. She looks horrible.
There is no doubt about it, I believe she had the tummy tuck. Jacqueline just makes me sick.
I also question the autism diagnosis, the timeline was just not right. They had to wait for months because of the insurance? It all goes down at the end of Season 4, when they really began promoting blk.? They were ready to run with that Albie story about the mother with the autistic child and blk. being the wonder drink. Again, people cannot be fooled that easily.
If they have the resources to botox, fill and tummy tuck Jac, they had the resources to get Nick the correct diagnosis as soon as possible. She seems to be traveling all around the country promoting blk., who is taking care of Nick?
In my opinion, the Laurita’s believed blk. was the golden egg. They thought it would bring in millions and would be the answer to all of their financial problems. That did not happen and their finances are in shambles, their home is more than likely in foreclosure, they owe back taxes and Jac gets a tummy tuck. I am shaking my head in disbelief.
A word to Jac. If you want to maintain the results of that tummy tuck, put the bottle down, get off of twitter and start exercising.
I do believe that nick is on th spectrum, as I cannot fathom a parent saying that if it were not true. Iagree and do not understand why they waited for insurance for a dd. It makes no sense.
Maybe Jacs wanted to look her very best for tomorrow. Iti is, after all, the day when arguments will heard for all motions in the Federal Bankruptcy Proceeding Case against the Lauritas. Until these motions are settled, all depositions have been suspended. However, the Discovery part, both Fact and Expert, is ongoing.
In all seriousness, more than likely she will not have to appear and it is doubtful Bravo will film. This is preliminary until all evidence is gathered and examined. Once completed, then it will be decided whether charges are to be filed. But there certainly appears to be a mountain of evidence so the Lauritas definitely have a lot on their plate right now between the hearings, the tax lien, the possible foreclosure, and Jacs plastic surgery bills.
So Kathy’s heading back to Qvc to sell some more kits on the 21st. She’s been conspicuously absent from all the peace talks don’t you think?
She must have sold more than was published on blots or they would not have asked her back. Not something I’m interested in but goof for her. She got her piece of the pie.
I think QVC is making a last ditch effort to get rid of all the leftover kits, promoting them for Easter. Just my opinion.
Wonder what the expiration date is on them?!
Ewwwwwww
Oh my, I just said that the other day to a friend. LOL!
I would think, from my own experience with frozen products, the expiration would be around July of 2013. For the price you could purchase fresh cannolis, already made.
I know for me personally, I don’t buy anything frozen that I have to build myself. It’s just not something I’m interested in when I go buy fresh. I do realize that there are many places in the US that don’t have bakeries where they can, so there is a market however I think it is small.
Some people. – Caroline Manzo’s tweet about the pope “there’s also white smoke coming out of my office but no one cares about that” – what a narcissistic piece of work.
You are kidding – I can’t believe she actually tweeted that – no, I guess I can – how ignorant.
Jeannie check fox news entertainment section – almost spit out a good sip of wine when I read it.
OK – this is strange. The tweet you mention shows on the link at Fox News Entertainment, but when you click on the link to the article, Caroline’s tweet reads differently. I included the link here so it shows what you say, but it is not in the article anymore. Maybe she caught some flak, and deleted it.

Well, she does think she’s infallible!
Sackem – stuck in a parents room when I’m meant to be shopping. Do they always pick the best time to wee themselves and demand to be feed simultaneously then scream their lungs out because it’s physically impossible to do two things at once? Jeez, people REALLY look at you!! We’re dealing with serious nappy rash/ thrush so both were urgent! Ended up with a costum change and a flood in the pram!
Yep, you’re right – I just read it again and I did misread it – so sorry about that – I owe ms manzo an apology. So glad you checked Jeannie!!!
It was an honest mistake
– I can definitely see how that could read that Caroline tweeted it. I read it that way too. But the mystery is then – who said it?!?! Because it’s not in the article at all.
This is also on Caroline’s TL – promoting her book. How? By answering the question – “Why Is Teresa Crazy?”
Damage control. Not working Caroline. Your book will not sell very many copies. Contact Andy as soon as possible.
Oh no, she’s speaking in tongues!
I wonder if she had her makeup done at Catface. Her eyes are her best feature by far and they look squinty and overdone. Nice work, Lauren …
So predictable … a NJ HW has the chance to promote herself and she uses the time to discuss Teresa?
“There are people that adore ME!” OK Caroline, I guess those people haven’t found their way to Amazon to comment on your book.
LOL — adore her. Odd phrase to use as most people don’t adore stars, they like them or not. She thinks pretty highly of herself to consider herself adored.

My dearest dearest celi –
You, your very special daughter, and your entire family will always be in my prayers. And whenever I see a dragonfly, I will think of you and send up a prayer to God that He will watch over all of you in the bad times and the good times as well. You have a strong faith and that will see you through. Take care and if you can, let us know how you are.
Celi, I am so glad that your angel was found and is going to be good. Hold tightly to your faith and let it be the light that guides you in the darkness. I will be thinking of you and your daughter.
Oh my cell… I haven’t been able to check in in a while. I had no idea what was going on… just saw posts offering prayers. I was hoping to come across a comment that would give me more info and this is the first I’ve come across. I’m thrilled it sounds like some good news but I obviously don’t know the entire story. I take it your daughter was missing? I can’t imagine what you’ve been going through. I don’t know if you’ll see this post, but in hopes that you will, I wish the best for you and yours. I’m taking it that your daughter was violated in some way. I will pray for your family and have confidence you will all find strength through your beliefs. Goodness will prevail over evil even if we don’t see it right away. Bless you and yours.
Everything else going on here seems so insignificant after reading your post. It puts what’s truly important into perspective.
Love my Walking Dead
Maybe when RHONJ comes on & DStaubs comes on the ratings will go up up & away
