Jacqueline Laurita and her family hosted a tricky tray fundraiser for Autism Speaks. Laurita’s son Nicholas was diagnosed with autism earlier this year.
Hundreds of people attended Sparkle Speaks, a charity tricky tray at The Brownstone in Paterson Thursday. The event raised money for Autism Speaks, an international autism science and advocacy organization.
The Sparkling Event, an event planning agency run by Candice Laurita and Cristina Granelli, Jacqueline’s nieces, organized Sparkle Speaks.

‘Housewife’ Wakile, other local business owners donate items to victims of storm and offer holiday shopping with The Sparkling Event’s Glitz, Glam and Gifts event.
Hundreds of North Jersey shoppers got a jump on their Christmas shopping and raised money for charity at the same time.
The nearly all-female crowd flooded The Brownstone in Paterson for Glitz, Glam and Gifts, The Sparkling Event’s annual holiday shopping event.
Dozens of vendors showcased their best products. They included “Real Housewives of New Jersey” Kathy Wakile and Jacqueline Laurita.
“It’s a fun night out and gives people a chance to have some fun, network a little, and showcase their business,” said Candice Laurita, co-owner of The Sparkling Event. “We’re moms and we all want a chance to help each other, and the community, out in some tangible way and this is a great way to do that,” Laurita said.
Laurita held Sparkle Speaks in September. That event raised money for Autism Speaks, an international autism advocacy organization.
Wakile showcased cannoli as the inaugural desert in her new Dolce Della Dea dessert collection.
“There are so many people who were down and out, who still are, but the community, and the entire state, has really come together after Sandy and its wonderful to see how resilient everyone is,” Wakile said as she filed cannoli with her daughter Victoria. “It’s been amazing to see and if we can help people out with something like this, that’s wonderful.”
During season 5, the others will have much less to promote:
Melissa has her auto-tuned music; Kathy has her cannoli kits, and the Lauritas will be exploiting their son and autism so that they can sell more blk.

Bravo has totally turned me off as a viewer. I highly doubt that I’ll tune in for Season 5 as I’m not in to drama nor do I want to see infomercials! That’s all these shows have turned in to: workout DVD’s, CD’s, books, jewelry, and the list goes on. They have moved away from what the shows were originally about which is what made them enjoyable to watch. I just can’t anymore.
I think i’m going to be sitting out RHONJ Season 5 myself……. God Bless Teresa, but I am not watching those other people peddling their crap, while trying one last time to stab T in the back…..

I am going to miss seeing Teresa and her kids but I can’t give Bravo the ratings. I don’t believe they will ever get to a “Season 7.” Despite the constant PR off-season in blogs like this, twitter and tabloids, I believe that a lot of the audience will be totally fed up with the typical Bravo HW strategy: parties with hysterics, exotic trip with hysterics, boozefests with hysterics, and of course, all the psuedo product lines and books. I mean, totally “meh!”
I think Bravo has to completely revamp its HW strategy — it’s getting super old!
As someone else here said before, I also think the existing Housewives formula you just described has “jumped the shark.”

The last picture of Kathy, right before Teresa’s photo (last photo) – what’s up with her hair? Chris Stark and Fame — I keep thinking (and desiring) a book that delves into this Bravo HW and production company phenomenon, all truths exposed, from the first HW franchise and season, and how they control and manipulate the women with the women’s consent and sometimes without; the impact on their families (especially the ones appearing in episodes/seasons with them), and of course, all these businesses — plus the complicitness of the tabloid media (both online and print).
I’m really serious about this. i would LOVE to buy it and read it.

I don’t know if an honest expose book is out there specifically on the RHONJ but awhile back, Rhocomix (aka Big Hair Long Nails – I don’t remember how she spells it LOL!) mentioned a book she was reading. I bought it on Amazon for about $13 and, though I haven’t had the time to really get into it, I have skimmed through it and it looks like a very, very interesting read. There is mention of the Real Housewives and, more specifically, RHOAtlanta. Other reality shows referenced are The Bachelor, Dr. 90210, The Apprentice, America’s Top Model, etc. This book is something I think would be right up your alley since you expressed this interest! In fact, I think most of us would benefit from reading this book as it does expose behind the scenes of reality shows and gives credence to a fact a lot of people have expressed here on Fame. Most of these shows including the Housewives franchise is sexist and portrays women in a very negative light.

You are a doll to take your time like this for me! Yes, I am familiar with that book and it’s like you’re in my mind! I found that my local library has it, and when I return my books next Sat., I’m making a beeline to it.
Here’s my thinking of an HW-only book. Because there have been so many franchises, seasons and characters, it has become quite the reality TV phenomenon in itself and has spawned quite a bit of scandal. For example: wouldn’t it be awesome to find out the REAL reason why Taylor is StILL on BH? Etcetera … I don’t watch other reality shows, and now, only occasionally watch the HWs. I used to watch them religiously but I got so dang bored with the predictable seasonal arches as described above. I tune in mostly because I do love to see what they wear! Sad that that’s the extent of my interest now as a viewer.

You are so welcome, Honnie – happy to help!! One of the reasons why I started to watch the Housewives shows is because I have lived in both Orange County and New Jersey (I have moved around alot!). I tune into RHOC because they all frequent so many of my old haunts, restaurants, shops, etc. The coastline is absolutely stunning and the sunsets are magnificent. (With that said, there still isn’t anything like the New Jersey shore!) And I watch RHOBH because I, like you, love the opulence!!!! Guilty pleasure for sure except this season is getting ugly but I am not surprised. The disease has spread and that franchise has gotten sick too. And NJ, well, you get it!
You and Dubbalicious will probably finish the book well before me but I will really try to sneak in a page or two when I get the chance!!!

FYI – No way do I consider Cohen’s favorite prof an academic. The topics of these papers run the spectrum – from feminism to the hatered of women to the value society places on celebrity. Very few have been written on the manipulation of the networks on its viewers – but I we will read them shortly in literature. Until we, the viewer, realize reality television is, for the most part a sham, it will continue and its impact on us will be self distructive for all involved, that is, both the viewer and participant.
Correction. … But I ‘think’ we will read…

so yesterday, few good men was on bravo…and all of a sudden there was a commerical with caroline and her boys…talking about a new movie with seth grogen bringing his mother on a raod trip..i have no clue what its called…but they were talking about their fambily -_-, you should check it out..caroline has a favvorite and his name is albie..should look at the body language
This season gonna be pretty boring!! S5 is going to be all about permoting thier products they are not getting togather and hanging out this year? They are not taking any vacations either. I perdict this will be the last season of RHONJ the rating will drop drasticly this season!! I also perdict that Teresa will have her own show next year so I know even if they do have a S6 without Teresa it wont make it anyway!! They will have to start S6 with a clean slate if they want to keep this RHONJ franchise cause it will never make a S6 with the cast they have now. Teresa will get her own show in 2013 if not with Bravo it will be with another network cause she and her family is destine for stardom they are all loved and are a reality family that everyone loves to watch!!

The sick to desire to capitalize on the National Tragedy of Hurricane Sandy will doom this series – the only hope it had was the rumored clearing out of the toxic cast. A season of infomercials will find me tuning out.

The producers (Purveyors of Pop) absolutely LOVE LOVE the Manzos, Lauritas, & Gorgas. They love them in an embarrassing way-I can’t help but speculate it’s because there is so much gayness going on with the cast. (That does not make me homophobic for noticing. I am simply commenting on the fact that the producers are very biased towards the most gay-rumored, gay-friendly, and openly gay cast. That can’t be coincidence.)
There is NO OTHER series where such self-promotion of products & endeavors is highlighted, with the producers endorsing them so happily.

Well, your post is so nice, I liked reading it twice!
I don’t know how many of you remember, but Jacqueline was one of the first to go live on Twitter, along with Dina & Trashley. The cast of RHONJ are probably still the most vocal participants of any Housewives cast. Jac invented the tactic of ‘following’ people, DM’ing them, then unfollowing so they couldnt respond privately. She used the art of the smear early-on as well, going after Dinyelle, etc. (Does anyone remember Jac posting pics of the clergy directory as ‘proof’ that Dinyelle didn’t know her clergyman? LOL.) It’s no accident the cast is all over Twitter b/c they understand the value of social media, keeping their names out there, networking, etc etc. The other franchisees who don’t do it, don’t get that exposure & aren’t popular with the POOP producers. Then there are the HW like Jill Zarin, who understand the basics, but get it wrong in trying to connect “bloggers” to “attack jobs” etc. JZ got so caught up in worrying about what was said online about her, she was pwnd by it–and look at her fall.
One other thought about the cast from RHONJ–they appear to be the cast most likely to party and hang out with the POOP. Mother Soprano & the Guidos, Gorgas, Lauritas, & Wakiles don’t seem to have any social lives except for waiting around for POOP to take them out so they can all Tweet pix of themselves drinking blk, wearing Cafface and eating cannolis with their tucked tummies, new teeth & lifted faces.
What other cast have you seen so much personal socializing with the POOPers? Their relationship is more like POOP are star-struck b/c they get to hang out with the Manzos, et al.

Lots of put-downs and insults to women (IMO)—for example, talking about how Ana had the penis-always insulting their cast in subtle ways, and behaving really really unprofessionally and immaturely.
One of the biggest things I noticed when I used to follow them (v. now I just see what others RT)–POOP *constantly* bragging about their rich lifestyles. “here we are on our private jet flying off to London”, “We’re going on vacation to Brazil”, “Here are pics of us with XYZ celebrity”.
I don’t follow many celebs, but can’t think of any that have crossed my TL where the ppl behind the account are so self-infatuated.
They make fun of campy Lindsay Lohan, without realizing they’re in the same “camp”.
